Wouldn't you rather get a Vodafone TV for $72?

    • Same.

Is there any free VPN works with Vodafone tv?

      • Yea. Interested with this question too.

I am using ExpressVPN and watch loads of drama lol.

      • The Voda box runs Android TV just like the Mi Box.. Use one of your providers standalone apps from the Android TV Store?

      • What are you using a VPN for?

I use a smartDNS (dns4me) on my android tv. Which works for hulu

        • Netflix USA, Rakuten, Kodi

          • @burningrage: No kayo on Vodafone unless you use kodi add on
My dentist got a Vodafone TV for kayo and I had to swap him my mibox so he could use kayo

            • @iamhurtin: Yes there is.. it’s simple to side load the app on there.

              • @Nousernamehere: Is it simple to use?
The side loaded app is terrible!

Imagine you're 62 years of age.

You don't know what Android TV is
You don't know what kodi is

Someone tells you, "hey you can watch all the nrl you want now, no need for foxtel or your expensive telstra mobile plan, I'll even go halves with you and you can take it off my next dentist bill, all you need to do is to ring Vodafone and ask for a because you're a long term customer"
of course it turns out Vodafone had been over charging him for his 5 phone family plan by about 200 a month for a year or more, so they changed him to proper and cheaper plan with more data, gave him some account credit and a Vodafone box.

He gets the box, rings me up to talk him through the install process, he is a dentist so he isn't stupid, everything is fine. The google account I created for him is working, youtube is great.

I ask him to go to the Google play store and download "kayo"
He can't find it he says, I'm puzzled I can see it on my Android TV.
Maybe he has missed a step.
He packs the box up and brings it to me, I test it can't find it. Search online
"kayo doesn't work on Vodafone TV"

So I now have to explain about the possibility of casting from your phone, tell them side loading it makes it difficult to navigate, maybe we could use kodi and the kayo app (I've then got to hope a new kodi update /kayo add ok update doesn't break)

Does it all seem so simple?

Simplest thing was to swap boxes and do re-installs because now he can click the app and browse and enjoy his shows, and I can do do all the other steps.

Did you think about any of that?

You might never thought of anyone besides yourself before so this may all be strange and confusing to you.

                  @iamhurtin:

The side loaded app is terrible!

                  You claimed:

No kayo on Vodafone unless you use kodi add on

                  To which I then replied:

Yes there is.. it’s simple to side load the app on there.

What I said is correct - the Kayo app works fine on the VTV once sideloaded.

So you have enough knowledge about the Kodi Kayo addon but not on how to sideload the Kayo APK onto a VTV, I can tell you that doing the latter is easier than doing the former.

So I now have to explain about the possibility of casting from your phone, tell them side loading it makes it difficult to navigate

The Kayo app is exactly the same to navigate on my VTV as it is on my Nvidia Shield TV.. there is no difference with the app.

Simplest thing was to swap boxes and do re-installs because now he can click the app and browse and enjoy his shows, and I can do do all the other steps.

He could have just "click the app and browse and enjoy his shows" exactly the same on the VTV as the MiBox, once the app was sideloaded.

Did you think about any of that?

You might never thought of anyone besides yourself before so this may all be strange and confusing to you.

Ah my bad, forgot we have to cater to the lowest common denominator for everything in society nowadays. I should take legal action against any microwave I see advertised as 'easy to use' as my dad really struggles with any that he comes across.

      • Almost… Several are ~$30 - $40 for Life…

WindScribe can be free for a while ea month (for PC)

  • MiBOx Usually doesn't come with power plug (at least the last 2 I had didn't have any) so this is a welcome change.

However, if this is not any faster or powerful (in terms of CPU) than Vodafone Box then Vodafone Box should be the one.

They are pretty much the same, except the S905D (found in the voda box) supports live tv.

Edit: and apparently the S905D supports gigabit ethernet vs 100m in the S905X (mi box cpu)
      Read this chart for comparison.

      • The Vodafone TV only has 100mbps ethernet.

        • Since NBN prices when Up for 100 Mb/Sec we only have 50 Mb/Sec from/to I'net

I think the mi box is more likely to get an upgrade to Android 9 while the Vodafone is still stuck on 7.

      • Ah… could be a gamechanger.

      • Xiaomi better get it this time. My Mi Box is rendered unusable after update.

  • I bought two 'International' versions of the Mi TV box and I can't access anything on the Google Play store.

Everything on it has been sideloaded from Aptoide and is a right PITA. I've got a cheap X9 Android TV box that is much, much better.

  • Is this the old, non-S Mi Box? If it is then it's pretty much junk because the Oreo update (which you can't refuse) broke a lot of things, and there are no more updates on the horizon.

    • Exactly I see the box of this one is called telebee, how is this compared to the SBox version please?
