  • They have the 32 inch curved model of these specs for like 70p

  • Even after cashback, this is still $90 more than regular US sale prices once you adjust for GST.

If you can, just sidestep this and the LG IPS until there's more price pressure on them.

IDK why anyone would pay $700 for this crap when the LG is that too. Horrible view angles on the Dell and bad panel uniformity. Also pretty low contrast ratio.

      • It's not that bad, especially in the context of the 27GL850's similar contrast levels, and this would be the 2nd or 3rd run of the Dell model, from which they have apparently worked out the kinks.

The issue is simply the price point for what is now a basic TN QHD 144hz monitor, a problem that HP also seem to have in Australia with their monitor line-up. Seems a little odd that such old brands in Australian terms have such noncompetitive pricing…

[mutters something about a corporate restructure]

  • I’m having trouble deciding between this one or the ips panel ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD for $449

    • +2

Get the Viewsonic, I have it and its an awesome screen. Unless lowest response time is absolute must for you (i.e. competitive fps gamer) else dont bother.

      Dell is overpriced imo.

      • GTG for the viewsonic is 3ms, which is pretty damn good

      • Might just go for the viewsonic then and get a desk mount for it

  • if you want fast response that comes with TN with this kind of money you may as well go for a 240hz monitor

    • Or wait til 500hz

      • is that coming soon? last i saw on blurbusters they hacked 480hz but that was only 540p xD

        • +1

That wasn't hacked, it was a prototype panel. The challenge with getting up to even 300Hz relates the nature of LCD technology and the thermal and conductive restrictions of the tech.

There were some 300Hz laptop panels demoed recently, and Linus does a decent job of explaining the details here: https://youtu.be/YYa-csmwDPg?t=100

But essentially, we're probably not far away from 300-330Hz in desktops with LCD, but we might not see 480Hz until MicroLED, which is probably 2-3 years away from market entry for displays, and maybe 5-7 years from mainstream.

The current argument is that beyond 200Hz, the point of driving higher and higher is firstly for peripheral vision (i.e. fluid motion perception), then for neurological sensitivity to flicker, meaning pushing hard beyond 240Hz is more about ultrawide and VR/AR tech.

240Hz still has visible motion blur, but yeah if you're interested in dropping motion blur significantly, just go straight to 240Hz, and go for TN or IPS as you do so (early signs of 240Hz VA are not good).

          • @jasswolf: wow didn't know it was that hard, thought they were just bandwidth limited

people use high refresh not necessarily for motion blur reduction, in games like csgo the crosshair is stationary a lot of the time, so the merit of high refresh is also mostly for lower input lag, motion blur strobing technology like lightboost/ULMB/etc adds half a frame of input latency so they are not popular in the csgo scene.

according to blurbusters, strobing cuts motion blur significantly so much so that a good 120hz strobed monitor can match 500hz+ monitors non-strobed in terms of motion blur.

the point is if you're more interested in reducing motion blur it is also important to find a monitor with a good strobing implementation - and they can differ in effectiveness by a good margin, and not just go for the highest hz monitor. The current best option would be 240hz + good strobing for optimal blur reduction.

            • @abctoz: PWM/BFI can help, but that comes down to an individual's sensitivity to flicker, as well as the panel being bright enough so that the perceived brightness is sufficient. With typical LCD brightness in monitors being 250-400 nits, it's a bit of a challenge on the lower end of the range.

And if the goal is to lower input lag, you just set an absurdly high (but stable) frame rate, or use a lowered pre-rendered frames settings, depending on the game. Most monitors are in the 3-6 ms range for input lag these days, so unless you're using a TV you shouldn't be struggling.

              • @jasswolf: Well strobing makes a big difference in terms of motion blur reduction, at 144hz frame persistence is reduced from -7ms to -1.5ms, the most striking test is the scrolling map test where street names only become legible with strobing on but is blurry without it. I get some people are sensitive to flicker but back in the day CRTs all had flicker, and the brightness issue can easily be solved by making the room darker. But of course this is only relevant if motion blur reduction is high priority

Its the same with input lag, particularly for competitive/pros they obsess over it, going from 144 to 240hz they can reduce input lag by 3ms, but hey thats important to them

  • I love how they've eeked out 11hz to justify an extra $100 over LG's 32" VA monitor and Viewsonics 27" IPS monitor.

I'd go for either of those personally. Not because of the panel type - I've heard some TNs are pretty decent and I have no idea on if this one fits that - but because it's overpriced for what it is.

    • Which 24 inch monitor would U recommend with freesync for under $200? Will be used for gaming.

      • *I happened to notice This monitor while looking on PCCG and it looks really promising. 75hz, IPS and 24" with a decent looking stand. Would advise spending some time looking at reviews on it, the response time seems a touch slow but if reviews say it isn't a problem I'd go for this one. If the response time is exceptionally poor though go for one if the below recommendations.

I got this one and find the panel is pretty good. But the stand is absolutely awful.

I'd probably recommend this one. A touch bigger but the stand should be nicer to use.

        • Thanks for the recommendations! I'll get the AOC.

    • Tbh all of dell's monitors seem overpriced. Brand perhaps has something to do with it?

  • I love Dell build quality and all, but no way could I justify the premium.

  • Marked for monitors is a little messy at the moment.

    Going to wait.

  • i got this one from dell https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-32-curved-gaming-monito…
after cashback came to $543.48 delivered

    • Did you purchase this in this sale at the price? or have you purchased it previously, if so how is this monitor seems to be priced quite well with the discounts.

      • +1

from the sale, not sure of the 10%,but i would say from the discounted price

        • Thanks for the reply, if only their was some Reviews or information for this monitor, Do you know of a Similar Monitor to the 32 " Curved? haven't really seen any in the price range.

    • Also do you know if the Cashback is 10% of full price? or if its 10% of discounted price, sometimes it seems to track the full price.

    • Cashback brings this lower than Amazon's efforts, but neither one is a good price.

      • Isn't Amazon "up to" 10% cashback too, atm? What ever that means …

        • Different Categories have different amounts of cashback you can view them on both Shopback and Cashrewards once you type in Amazon or whatever ur searching for.

      • Is there anything better for the same price?

  • A month ago I bought one of these, arrives with production date of August 2019 and out of the box 3 bright pixels, because of the 1 bright pixel guarantee I call them and after having to go through the "have you tried turning it off and on again" rubbish they offer a replacement….all good you would think.

1 week later rather than the next day as promised another monitor turns up, the morons send me an earlier revision refurb unit with a production date of July 2018… I wasted hours on the phone trying to sort it out but I give up and return both….then wait 2 weeks for a refund.
