I hope it's not like Ben and Jerry promo

    • Did I miss something?

What are they going to do with the data? Lots of names and addresses as well as other potentially sensitive usage info to gather.

    • +1

Probably not worth the cost of your data in this case.

    • Door knocking people on the fence

      • *Fence knocking.

I am amazed Origin Energy charges money to do a bill comparison in the first place. (Edit: Origin Energy is not doing the bill comparison. It is Econnex.)

Free energy bill comparison service for NSW residents from NSW Government.

Origin aren't charging for this - it's a Econnex comparison service to get new customers for them. Econnex gets a commission for that from Origin.

This is charged via Groupon, probably to pay for the vouchers.

Lots of complains here about the service by Econnex in past deals & Forum!

The original deal title and description was misleading and it had been altered by a mod. Independently, I have also researched the deal, came to the same conclusion and edited my comment.

        • Ah, edited while I was slowly replying…

          • @INFIDEL: Ninja edit :-)

Not half as frustrating as editing a post as a PU, only to have the edit rejected when the post was altered by someone else in the meantime.

            • @alvian: We mere mortals don't have your level of frustration😉

    • According to the ACCC, electricity price comparison websites are commercial operations showing a list of the highest paying commissions to the website operator while informing the scam victims using the site that they're seeing a list of the cheapest providers.

They made no exception for EME or any other Government comparison website.

I have no idea why gas would be any different.

Just remember to read conditions before go ahead - Customers who have compared on Econnex or its partner websites within the last 12 months are not eligible. Only available for customers whom are currently not with Origin Energy and switch to Origin Energy through this offer

A scammer can do a lot with a copy of your energy bill. I wouldn't risk it for just $10.

Signed up to this last time
Didn't get my giftcard even after many many follow ups. Regularly receive sms' from them on energy specials

    My suggestion… Stay away!

    • Same here, although haven't received any spam.

Econnex and I had a big blowup about this last time. My advice: Don't touch it. There are rules, sub-rules, conditions on the rules and they will pick any of them to avoid paying you.
What was perhaps worse was that the first time I became aware they wouldn't pay me was basically someone telling me I didn't get it because I didn't get it.

They did the same to my mother. I bought the voucher for her… was not worth chasing them up and wasting time ..

  • Hello Everyone,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Please note we have earlier provided 2500+ Gift Cards on our Alinta Energy and Groupon deal. We hope all would that appreciate we run a business and we have to save our interests. The ones who did not get any gift card were usually not the authorized person on the bill or were trying to game the system.

    Few Examples:
-Uploaded parent's invoices without their authorisation
-Edited name(s) on the bills to claim the gift card
-Uploaded Electricity bill under own name and gas bill under the respective partner's name
-Uploaded 12-month-old bill of different address and try to claim two gift cards
-Did not upload any bill and argued that the system has a glitch

As the marketer, we try to organize a unique deal for our customers and make a commission when a person switches to a new retailer. You need only to change when you find this Origin deal better than your existing retailer. Our current Origin deal is their best offer available in the market, and the gift card makes it an attractive deal.
