    Can't get enough of ARSEPIX

  • +1

Pardon my ignorance, would this to be considered as the Android equivalent for iPhone?

    • +33

      No, much better than iPhone

      • -1

        … for those limited budgets

        • +4

          Both phones have their supporters.
Let's not start a phone fanboi war.

          • @darkmattersunB6c0MV: Fanboi wars are just those who are conducting a war against their own finances who doesn't know it. Buyer beware.

    • +3

Last gen iPhone, sure. Google pixel 4 has been released.

      • +3

Which seems to be a last gen iPhone as well.

        • -1

More like at 5 year old Samsung perhaps

  • +7

Holding out for a 3XL 128gb TA! I know you wont let us down

    • -1

ARSEPIX gets the Pixel 3 from $799 to $659, a saving of approx 17.5%

PLAYNOW on Allphones eBay (from what I gather is the same company as Mobileciti) gets you 15% off on a lot of their phones, including the 64gb and 128gb Pixel 3 XL :) I'm about to get one now actually.

      (Edit to add link: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Google-Pixel-3-XL-6-3-12-2-MP-64…)

    • Tossing up between a OnePlus 7/T Pro or a 3XL since the 4 was such a let down. Hoping a deal shows up before I fly out so I can claim TRS as well.

      • but arent you supposed to declare TRS when coming back from the trip?

        • No, unless you're bringing other items in at the same time which pushes you over the $900 threshold. They also take into account depreciation (anecdotally 20%) as the item is no longer brand new when you come back.

  • Would you all recommend this phone at half the price of the PIxel 4?

    • +2

Depends on disposal income and your perceived value

      P3 are very awesome

      • income and perceived value are big drivers ….. it’s why some people have expensive cars , clothes, shoes …..if you have money and can afford the best enjoy.

for me i like phones with latest OS updates, and i keep phones for 2 years, so factor that into decision making.

    • +1

      don't. Battery life is pathetic.

      • To what extent

        • +2

It's one of the worst battery performers of any flagship phone. It's worse than pixel 2

          • +1

@onlinepred: Seruiously don’t understand, google phones are around same price as other flagship But with tiny battery since the first pixel. Heck even apple mad3 their iPhone battery so much bigger

            • @[Deactivated]: some people don't use their phones that much honestly speaking.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yea true, that's why they should get pixel 3a or an iPhone 7s etc. Battery will last longer and will work fine.

        • really bad. get pixel 3A or 3a xl.

  • this or the v30+ for $400..?

    • +2

v30+ has everything great going on except the selfie camera.

      • ^^ Fully agreed with this one. I got one during the last deal, and couldn't be happier as I don't really care for a selfie camera.

    • +1

This, the Pixel has a really good UI, overall the user experience is much better than most phones

      • dam now I have two[conflicting]perspectives

        • +7

Have used both V30+ and Pixel 2 XL (basically same hardware). Performance wise Pixel 2 XL wins. Google phones are butter smooth and very responsive. V30+ isn't slow by any means just not fast as pixel equivalent (I'm talking about general usage here, opening and closing apps etc). Software updates, Google Pixel wins hands down. There's not even a comparison, LG is pathetic. Having said that, once they release an update, it's very stable, got to give them that. Customisation, LG wins. You can change many things (such as button arrangements which Google Pixel doesn't allow us to do, why, why??) and their UI is quite nice too. Hardware quality, both are pretty similar. Infact OLED screen used in Pixel 2 XL is made by LG so colours and characteristics are pretty much the same (got to admit both are not as good as Samsung galaxy S super AMOLEDs). But I think pixel 3 regular phone screen is made by Samsung. Camera quality, I personally like Google HDR+ photos and believe they deliver amazing results. LG doesn't produce that much details but I do love V30's wide angle camera, it's fantastic. Yes, front selfie camera of LG is pathetic. After all I kept Google Pixel 2 XL and sold V30+. I do miss LG head phone jack and wide angle camera however overall performance, quick updates and the camera of Pixel phone won over.. Hope this helps someone.

          • +1

@npnp: i also love LG hardware, but ended up with nokia as i wanted vanilla android e.g android one, and time updates …. seems my 7 plus is due to get android 10 1st quarter 2020 and some nokia’s will get android 10 this quarter.

          • +1

@npnp: Cheers for taking the time to write all that, much appreciated and really helpful! Think I might try out a pixel 3… My favourite phone was the Nexus 4 but I dropped it on the floor and cracked the screen and since then I've been using a budget spare phone (LG K10) as prices since Nexus 4 ($400) have been too high for me to justify purchasing but this phone frustrates me as the auto focus is so bad unless there's good lighting so I miss photos or take a long time ~30 seconds or 5 photo takes till I get the right focus which is why I'm trying to look for an upgrade.

I've read other comments down this thread and if the pixel 3a would drop to 400-450 that sounds like a dream/best case scenario.. But how long would I have to wait is unknown.

  • Is unlimited original quality storage still available with this device?

    • +8

Yep, but not with the Pixel 4 :(

    • +3

      For ~2 years

  • +1

God damn. I wish the pixel 2 was this price last year.

  • Hey guys, anyone notice that the pixel 4 is cheaper than the pixel 3 on googles website???

    • +1

Because a lot of us were sent codes for 50% off the Pixel 3, which is valid until the end of December for memory.

    • You in australia website or us

      • Australia cause the 3 is for $1200 and the 4 is for $1050 which is cheaper than converted from the us price of 800. Really odd.

  • +7

Any chance of a 3A XL deal in the near future?

  • Excellent code!

  • Such good deal

  • It's clearly white, not pink….. d:

  • +2

Need some advice here. My budget for a cell phone is usually around $350 max. However, I have realised that I now use my phone as my primary camera. Use it click photos of my little one. What would you recommend? Google pixel or xiaomi mate P20 pro? Not a heavy user - some browsing, calls, GPS etc. Currently using the nubia z17 lite from a deal here last year.

    • I think Xiaomi phone cameras are traditionally the weakest part of the device.

      • +2

I think Xiaomi phone cameras are traditionally the weakest part of the device.

OP is confused. There's no xiaomi mate P20 Pro, there's the Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Both the Huaweis were known for having excellent cameras. They would be better than the original Pixel.

Between that and the Pixel 3, though.. that's a different story. The Mate 20 Pro's ultrawide, normal, and zoom cameras are a lot more flexible than the Pixel's single camera, but the Pixel 3's image processing might be better depending on your tastes.

        • @eug - yes, I was confused. I meant 'Huawei Mate 20 Pro' . Thanks for that. Ended up buying after reading everyone's comments. Cheers

    • +1

Keen to find out… Similar situation… Have a G6 though

    • pixel ftw.

I like to keep my personal phones sub $800.

I used the pixel 3 for a few product photos and site shots for a few consulting contracts and the photos were excellent plus outdoor trips.

the benefit is the photo processing, unless you want to spend $2000 on an iphone 11 pro max.

you just set the pixel 3 to backup the photos to your google drive account. with the pixel you get a year (or more i think) of free original qualities uploads saving you space and the hastle of having to transfer the photos as i'm guessing you will be taking heaps.

after a few years most people loose interest of taking heaps of photos of your kids, i definitely have.

if it was me and i had about $600, i would definitely go the pixel with stock android over any other phone based on the camera grounds.

full disclosure i still use ios as daily driver simply due to ease of use and security.

      • There was a guy on here with all the discounts manages to score one for $1,500!

I still think you'd get a P4 with discounts down to $800-900 new.

      • yeah, find people get bored looking at lots of my photos and talking about myself.
same with kids, i’m interested in my kids, other people are interested in their kids no mine.

as per Dale Carnegies’ best seller 15 million copies old “ how to make friends and influence people” people will like you if you take an interest in them instead of going on about yourself …..

but OS updates and ease of use is important.

        • influence people, don't handle them right?

brah - thought ozbargain was just all trolls. i don't feel alone.

actually i had a typo in that comment, should have read:

"after a few years most people loose interest of taking heaps of photos of THEIR kids, i definitely have."

i honestly have never cared about seeing photos of other peoples kids lol

    • +1

I was a Pixel 2 user and now on a Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. At first, I was resistant because of the camera, but the battery life (2700mAh on the pixel 2) was really hurting and I didn't want to spend 1k+ on a phone.
I have since found about porting the GCam (Google Camera) and the experience has been outstanding, much better than the native app.
      https://www.cyanogenmods.org/google-camera-gcam-apk-download…

      • My battery has been great!

    • Pixel 3a. It has an awesome camera and it's a recent model.

Pixel 3 with this price is also a very good deal and might be considered better deal than 3a and is definitely better deal than Pixel 4 with its current price.

As I rememeber Pixel 3a has better battery life than Pixel 3 and definitely better than Pixel 4 with its 90Hz display.

  • +1

I wonder why there are no pixel 3a deals appearing in Aus, they're being sold for cheap in north america already. Kind of strange that you can buy the "flagship" for same price as the budget model.

    • Yeah I wonder why too

Was tempted to buy 3a, but ended getting P3 with 50% discount code, cheaper than 3a

    • It's the only pixel that is selling okay.

  • +4

I'm waiting for the 3a to come down in price. $400-$450 would be an awesome price for a phone with the best camera.

  • +1

    wow this phone depreciated heavily

    • That's the great thing about android phones, you can use last gens flagships and you will have amazing phones for cheap, then the price doesn't drop as hard and fast from there

  • +1

Why do people think the 4 is a let down? I have a 2 XL and the 3 was a very basic upgrade.

    Camera is basically the same!

The 4 looks like it's got a major upgrade camera wise, shoot-outs will tell.

I'm unsure what people expect from phones these days? They basically do everything we need. I only see camera upgrades as a selling point for myself, hence no upgrade from 2/3.

    • I thought it was a major upgrade. I think people are so fixated on hardware they don't see all the cool stuff google is doing behind the code. Either way I'm stoked to have a 4 XL on pre order

      • -1

        I might upgrade, I think P2XL128 still get $500+
Mines basically as new, I don't need the upgrade but wouldn't mind wireless charging. Pixel normally discount really fast, was thinking of buying eBay gift cards, waiting for a 15-20% promo to try snatch it for a heavy discount new. Always plenty of people palming off upgrades too!

        • -1

P2XL is $250 to $300 on Gumtree. Wtf

          • @matt-ozb: 128GB selling $450-500, plenty of really bad conditioned ones. Plus mine is like new, always had a cover etc.

      • Because all the code comes to the other phones as well. The hardware is the distinguishing factor when considering the upgrade.

    • They added a second lens. That's it. Most phone's for the last few years have had 3

    • -1

I can't see myself upgrading my 2XL right now.

      Maybe to 4XL, eventually. Maybe

      • Thanks, I was just thinking to myself, “I wonder when diddy50 from Ozbargain is going to upgrade his phone”. That answers that.

        • Mate, this wasn't even a reply to you…

But you obviously care enough to down vote and reply my comment Lol

          sigh

  • +1

    Waiting for 3axl deal

  • Anyone still using the original pixel or xl? I'm after a decent cheapo option with good camera :)

    • +1

I'm on the OG Pixel, picked up secondhand off eBay for $250. Liked it so much I bought another as backup, which was fortunate because the first one died after about a year. No problems with the second one so far.

(The death of the first one is mysterious — one day it kept rebooting, before finally settling on a multicolored pixelfest reminiscent of a Magic Eye picture. From Googling, it seems it could either be a bung screen, or a dying motherboard.)

As a phone it does everything I need it to without hassle, and the camera is miles better than anything I owned before.

I do plan to get either a 3 or 3a eventually, once they reach sub-$500 new, or I find a cheap used one in good condition.

      • Cheers mate. I thought they sounded pretty good for the price. Are they 3g or 4? Either way I'd get a few years out of it

        • +1

          They're 4G.

Try 'thebargainsupplier' or 'clocktowerau' on eBay. They've often got some in stock.

  • +1

Have used a range of Android phones, and once I moved to Google phones (starting from Nexus), never looked back. Would recommend pixel 3/ 3xl.
All phones have their pro and cons. Samsung note, iPhone, OnePlus, Etc are all good phones.
But I have certain criteria, which are:
    1.Phone safety and updates
Google internet for safest phone, and Pixel 3 pops up- but it would soon be pixel 4. ( Outside of custom phones, which incidentally, run hardened flavours of Android).
Also, on the latest Android 10 OS from early September- pixel devices get the latest OS first. ( Work on Android 11 already underway).
Also, security update patch level was Oct on my phone, whereas the security update patch level on a colleagues Note10 was September, which could mean nothing, or something- not saying that it make a phone better, just that it is important for me.
    2. Camera quality (take a lot of photos in meetings and conferences).
Pixel stands out there because of AI, and unlimited storage for 2 yrs. One of the features I love is to get the text of slide and copy paste it directly from the photo.
    3. Prestige and ability to configure/ develop
This is a personal quirk, but am going for Pixel 4XL, already pre-ordered.
iPhone and Samsung may also feel that their phones are prestigious. For me personally, it is important to tinker around and change stuff. Maybe develop and load apps that I developed.
Love Google for their innovations and integration with other Google services.
    4. Battery
Last the full day. Both Samsung, OnePlus( have a cousin using it) and Pixel are very good here.
    Hope this helps.

    • +1

my nokia 7 plus is also security patched for september …. beauty of android one on nokia.

    • Pixel 4 is the least customisable Android on the market fyi. Also one with the worst battery life, lowest quality build, last features, highest cost

  • Is pixel 3 better than Samsung s9?

    • +1

pretty similar, id get which ever is cheaper

    • I would say depends on preference
Samsung S9 has superior build quality, screen and overall hardware (plus expandable storage)
Pixel 3 has a better point and shoot camera and better colour science/processing (IMO) and unlimited Google photos upload, and better Google assistant integration if you use that (I use it a lot, my partner does not, so different strokes for different blokes)
To sell the Pixel 3, if you have a lot of old photos etc on hard drives, SD cards, even old phones, if you transfer them onto your Pixel and back it up it will still be part of your unlimited storage

      • Pixel 3 only backs up pixel photos and only for 2 years right? It's better to invest in a reliable long term solution than rely on a free restricted service imo. S9 has Google assistant with same functionality as pixel 3. S9 has much better video recording.

        • I agree, the Pixel video is garbage compared to still photography
With the backup, if you were to transfer your photos/videos via USB OTG, the Pixel will see that as 'photos from Pixel' and upload for you at full original quality.
So I have backed up photos from my Nikon and Canon cameras onto the Google photos cloud all for free, and its dated and easily searchable
With the 2 years, that is true, but it's not like after the 2 years is up that you can't access the photos afterwards. During those 2 years, everything you back up is just part of your Google account forever
And with the Google assistant, I think you're right, it's more the 'ok google' detection I refer to (YMMV, but my cousin's Note 8 barely hears so it might be a microphone thing)

          • @ericshurn: On your pixel 3? I thought they disabled that after it was advised on og pixel and pixel 2.

Okay Google detection works the same also.

            • @onlinepred: On my Pixel 2 actually! My original quality photo upload benefit is up until January 2021
With the Google detection, as I said YMMV, it could be purely placebo effect which I can't prove, but when I have a Samsung device (my tab s4) and Pixel device right next to each other and say ok Google, it rarely gets detected on my Samsung Tab S4
And during a gym session with the cousin who owns the Note 8, we were both just testing it and his one had much worse detection
But in the end this is just circumstantial, unfortunately nothing to back this up except personal experience :)

  • For a S845 phone this is still too pricy. Many S845 128G are going for under $400 now.

    • link

      • There are many Mi8 GLOBAL VERSION 128GB going for US$ 270

Just saw this which is on S855 which truimp this PX3 deal by miles…

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/490538

        • which truimp this PX3 deal by miles

You could also say pure Android trumps MIUI by miles.

          • @eug: For me I don't see any difference. On the other hand Xiaomi and other brands have build in Dual apps, Dual sim..etc feature is missing with PX3 and Many people don't care about the stock android BS you know…

And if you want to pay more for a last gen S845 handset rather than a S855 with 5G and more features, be my guest. Its a free country.

I would have jump on that Mi Mix 3 5G deal myself if I haven't got a less than 1 year old P30 in the JBHIFI mother's days deal.

            • +1

              @syswong:

For me I don't see any difference.
Many people don't care about the stock android BS you know…

That's good for you. Many people don't care about dual apps, dual sim BS you know…

And if you want to pay more for a last gen S845 handset rather than a S855 with 5G and more features

And many people buy a phone for what it does for them, and not what numbers are in the processor name.

  • +1

Thanks OP for posting this deal! I ended up getting the pink Pixel 3. Been an iPhone user for years so I decided to bite the bullet and make the switch.

  • This or razer 2

  • Should I switch from a iPhone 8? Wanting to take some good photo

    • No. iPhone 8 is a great phone still. If you want good photos, buy a camera. Any camera will be better than the pixel, last longer and have more features.
