Very good price. $20 cheaper than the sennheiser outlet store

    • oh wow i better jump in it with that kind of savings :|

  • is wireless better or wired? is wireless alot worse?

    • wired is better for high end audio but you wont notice much of a difference if you are just listening from your phone.

    • +1

For a lot of content I think you'd struggle to notice the difference between wireless and wired on this set. Cheap & nasty bluetooth headphones, you might notice a difference.
These can operate off a regular 3.5mm cord too.

    • +3

      Plus this has a cable.
Main issues with this seem to be about the feel - some reports of clamping/getting hot around the ears. Depends on yr noggin :)
It's an excellent price for these.

    • I have some good wired headphones that cost a lot more but reach out to this more often even for music listening.

Call quality and noise cancelling is pretty good as well.

Great price. The link above helped me make my decision. I went with the Sony but each to their own.

    • I think you'll be happy with your choice but generally-speaking rtings is not as reliable a resource for headphones as it is for TV's.

  • This one or Bose qc?

    • Well if you live in Melbourne…

    • +6

Bose but only just. Sony > all of them

  • +1

    This or the Sony mx1000?

    • +1

Personally I'd go for the Sony. They're at the top of the game at the moment and nc wise, only the headphones that cost four hundred more seem to beat them. Sound wise the Sennheiser may have a bit of a margin out of the box but you can fix this with the app.

      • These are not as good as the 1000XM3 in terms of the sound quality. Momentum Wireless 3 are meant to be better but also quite a bit more expensive.

    • This if you want to use the headphones for making calls as well. Otherwise Sony "sounds" a little better :)

  • Qc are always better. This is a good price and it’s all about long wearing comfort. Can you wear these for 4-5 hours relaxed.

    • Yes, love em!

    • Walk into a JB and test them. For my large ears I find these very uncomfortable

    • 13 hours flight, didn't take them off except toilet and food breaks.
Best set ever, they don't heat up like others do.

  • +1

I have QC35s and the mrs has MX1000's and IMO they both shit all over these Sennheisers. This deal looks a lot more appealing with the original price at $499 but these are under $350 in lots of places. You're still getting a lot of headphone for $250 though

    • +1

In terms of sound quality? You must be the only one that thinks that

  • +1

Thanks OP, got one price matched @JB.

  • Any deals on bose qc35ii or sony wh1000xm3?

  • Ordered! Thanks!

  • +2

Ive been using these for about a year - they are very comfortable, have a great dynamic range, and the ability to control volume and skip tracks via tapping on the right can is a bonus…but…they are very quiet IMO. I've just tried the Sony MX1000's, and they are a far superior unit as far as audio quality and volume goes. However, these are an excellent choice for this kind of money.

    • +1

I'd recommend trying them all in jb hifi
I didn't like the bose and the NC on the Sony gave me a headache!

    • I've had these for almost 2 years and have never had an issue with them being quiet. Listening to music on my phone with the noise cancelling on, about half volume is plenty for me. Is it possible it's an equaliser setting? I haven't tried the Sony to compare audio quality, but I like the Sennheisers a lot more than the QC35s I tried out.

      • I also have these.
I found with them connected to my computer via Bluetooth they were much louder than when connected to my iPhone?
Could be that the phone is throttling the volume for some reason?

Changing the EQ made no difference either

  • +2

I have had these headphones for a year now,
The only downside to them is the nagging voice telling you to recharge every 2 mins when the battery percentage falls around 25%.

So basically you will get only 75% out of em, if you don't want to listen to the annoying voice.

    • +3

fyi, you can turn that off or change it to a beep by installing the Sennheiser captune app.

  • Got one. Thanks OP.

Yeah the savings sound a lot more than in reality when lots of places are already selling below $350.

  • +1

    Own these.

They're great if you want them for an office headphone, because you can plug them in via USB and continue to use them while they charge, or you can use them as a USB headset for Skype/Zoom/etc. They also do multi-device Bluetooth connections with no issues. The sound quality is decent, the battery life is pretty good, and the active noise cancelling is passable.

The ANC isn't as capable as the Sony XM3s or the Bose QC35/NC700.

  • +1

I have had them for several years, several flights, highly recommend them and for that price, it's a no brainer.
Melbourne - Dubai 13.hrs, had them on for the majority of the flight except for toilet breaks and food.
When I slept, I left them on as it makes it all quiet.
    sound cancellation is really good.

I found this to stay cooler on the ars than the Bose and Sony.

    • +1

      And on yr ears? :)

      • hahaha my bad! fixed the spelling :P

      • +1

right, can't edit, oh well :)

        • Muffled audio quality? :)

  • What is the Sony MX1000 people are referring to in this thread? Searching only turns up the Sony WH1000XM3 (or XM2), or a Logitech mouse called the MX1000…

    • The XM3 is Sony's latest set.

      • Why are 3 people calling it the MX1000 is what I don't understand.

Did one person make a mistake and then others copied, or is it a nickname for the device that Google doesn't know about?

        • +2

Mistake, should be WH1000XM3. Most people just abbreviate to XM3 but now there are WF1000XM3, but either way MX1000 is just flat out wrong.

Very good price for an incredible pair of headphones.

Personally, I’ve encountered problems with fulfilment on my last two orders of “bargain” markdowns from David Jones, although in general I hear they are okay.

    • +1

Is that enough for a down vote though?

      • +1

Maybe they have a clumsy thumb?

      • +2

I think we are too critical of people who down vote. From egodrips perspective it is a downvote because of their experience with David Jones. I think the voting guidelines should be relaxed from "Major issues with retailer" to "Issues with retailer" in order to properly reflect peoples experiences. Its not like this one downvote will sway everyone but its more representative…

        • +1

TBH a neutral button wouldn't go astray on OzB, but this is absolutely not a case for a neg based on the little shared in that post.

          • +2

@Hinee: a neutral button isnt necessary, just dont vote up or down.

    • +2

not worthy of a downvote imo, the deal itself is good, the retailer may not be but the deal should be held exclusive to the retailer

  • The only annoying thing about these is the twist on/off function. You can't wear them comfortably around your neck with the power switched off.

  • Version 2 is coming out soon https://en-au.sennheiser.com/pxc-550-ii, though obviously not for 50% off RRP!

I look forward to the day these drop below 300

  • still by far my favourite pair of noise cancelling headphones

  • Checked the website before I headed out, was in store ready to buy, and they fixed the price as the sales rep went to check stock and price.

    V sad :(

  • This deal didn't last long :/
