Japan Airlines to Osaka, Japan from Melbourne $647 Return, Sydney $666 Return (Incl Cherry Blossom Dates) @ Beat That Flight

970

Fly on the World's Best Economy Class Airline 2019 - Japan Airlines - to Osaka, Japan. JAL is a full service airline, and as such, movies, bags and food are included. My personal highlight was the plum wine, and the snack bar you can walk up to and grab from when you wanted. (Flew them in Sep 2017 from SYD to Tokyo return).

My personal highlight was the plum wine

You're not wrong! Suitcase was full of Tantakatan no Umeshu on the way home :)

  • I just noticed that with this flight we'll be landing at Narita and taking off at Haneda for the connecting flight to Osaka. Anyone knows if we need to get our luggage and arrange between-airport transfers with this booking?

    • +1

You’ll need to organise your own transport.

      • Thanks :)

      • …..and collect and recheck your lugggage.

    • +1

And not necessarily cheaper than flying directly into Osaka with Qantas for Sydneysiders.

    • Was just looking at that too. Bizarrely a direct flight just to Narita, from Sydney, is nearly $100 more expensive.

    • Can you get flight option connecting NRT/ITM ?
There is a connecting flight NRT/ITM so you do not need transport to HND.

  • +1

Annoying there's no direct to Osaka from Melb and lots of flights requiring changing airports. Bit of a pain… and yes you have to organise yourself.

  • +7

Much better experience if you fly into Osaka, then train to Tokyo via Kyoto, and fly home from Tokyo.

    • any insights on this? Why will it be better? I am planning to go to all 3 cities sometime next year (probably september). Just working out if it's better coming in from one city and out the next or is it better coming in and out form the same city (Osaka or Tokyo)

      • Just wastes less time on shinkansen. You get to see the big 3 without having to backtrack from Tokyo to Osaka on the last day.

    • This is what I'm looking to do, however when I plug in the multi-city trip into beat that flight, it won't return any results for JAL. Any tips?

      • could try a o/w to Osaka, and a o/w from Tokyo back home? Probably not JAL tho, they don't seem to like people doing one way tickets with them.

Also consider a o/w ticket back from Tokyo to Osaka, and booking a return from home to Osaka. Depends on price/time of course.

anyone flown JL774 before? any thoughts?

    • +1

      I’ve flown JAL. great airline.

    • I did back in September, can recommend 10/10, comfortable & quiet flight.

      • is dinner and breakfast both provided?

        • +1

Yup, had some cheese and crackers at night (they gave us a goodie bag filled with small bites from Japan) followed by teriyaki chicken meal, small salad, some fruits and chobani yogurt for breakfast (I forgot what was the other choice).

I think they change their meals every so often so I'm not sure what's being served during October/November's.

    • +3

yes love it, they are one of the only companies to run the 787 in a 2-4-2 configuration in economy.

    • Twice now, and a third time coming up in May.

Night flights in economy are not fun, but JAL's the best going with spacious 2-4-2 economy…

No dinner (just a snack) because the flight goes at midnight but breakfast is served…

  • +1

Loved the cherry blossom! Absolutely amazing but I wont go again 😂 so crowded and everything almost double the price.

  • +1

I flew JAL to/from Tokyo just last month and had really good experience. The seat (economy) was spacious, food was very enjoyable, staff was friendly, and they allow 46 kg check-in. I would pick JAL over Qantas any time. However, I personaly would not pick a flight that require transit to a different airport like this deal.

  • Not sure if I'm reading this correct but when I searched for flights from Sydney to Tokyo they were more expensive. So can I just get off at Tokyo if I wanted to?

    • Your return flight will get cancelled if you do

      • seriously? that's so dumb :(

    • Would also love to know this

  • Not so direct flights? :(

    • -1

      Did you do a search?

      • If you search, every information is there in web. Why do you come to ozbargain, when you can search/find everything by yourself?

      • Change airport NRT ⟶ HND , pretty much all the flights, 3hr+ layover

  • Does anyone know if you can get a flight from Melbourne to Osaka but get off at the layover at Narita and collect your bags?

    • +1

Yes … as long as you don't have a problem with the Return segment of your booking committing Hara-Kiri!

      • +4

        You mean committing sudoku?

        • I think you mean seppuku …

          • +1

@kerfuffle: It’s actually a meme to erroneously call it sudoku, poking fun at people unable to pronounce the word correctly.

  • Brisbane?

    • Did you do a search?

  • Has anyone tried to organise flights during the Japanese snow season? Is it ever cheap?

    • Pricier during school / public holidays. If you find a suitable flight at a price you’re willing to pay then do it.

    • +1

If you go early March, I believe you can still get pretty cheap prices for flights and pretty good snow with low-mid range chances of fresh snow even in the Hokkaido region. Accommodation is also generally cheaper during that period. Going there in March 2020. But as other poster mentioned, just avoid the school/public holidays.

      • Thanks. Will keep an eye out for March dates. Could you expect around $700 pp during this period?

        • +1

Have a look out for Qantas too as they're supposed to be starting their direct flights to Haneda Airport rather than Narita then

  • +3

JAL is hands-down one of the best airline flying out of Australia! My only choice for my yearly Japan trips.

Incredible 33" pitch and huge 18.9" width seats in a 2-4-2 layout. With flights departing from Japan, they usually have collaboration meals with famous restaurants. At the moment I think they are serving meals by young chefs from RED U-35, Japan's largest culinary competition and I love how you can look up what meals you are getting online. https://www.jal.co.jp/en/inter/service/economy/meal/

The cabin crew are always friendly and polite as what you will expect from Japanese hospitality. It feels like you are already in Japan the moment you step on the plane.

  • damn, no tokyo :(

  • Do the major airlines count early october as still school holidays? I know NSW school holidays are a week later than QLD, might be why I'm struggling to see any deals for next year.

    • Lots of parents take their kids out of school early to try to take advantage of cheaper fares. Probably too close to holidays in your case.

Hi guys before you are planning to go Japan check this video out will change your mind

    • But, we’re taking about Osaka here.

    • +1

Thanks for the warning. I’ll wear my tin foil hat next time I visit.

  • No premium economy options on beat that flight?

  • +1

FYI I just booked a 2-week June/JulyMelb to Tokyo holiday for $700 return
