Save 8c/L at Shell Coles Express if You Have a Car + Odometer Listed in Carsales App

610

Just noticed carsales app has a member page and in it was asking for odometer reading, punch it in and you get a barcode for 8c/l at shell Coles express (which I think can be used once a day?)

  • Great find!

  • Thanks but why not getting same 8 or 10 cents from Flybuys?

    • +2

How are you getting that from Flybuys?

  • Yep, used it last week with 8c discount, and then went to use it yesterday and the discount dropped to 4c???

I did stack it with 4c shopper docket and 10c fly buys. Total of 22c

    • +2

The email I just got after adding my car says the first one is 8c, subsequent ones 4c.

    • I did stack it with 4c shopper docket and 10c fly buys.

How did you get this flybuys deal? I want a 22c/L discount L :(

      • +2

They used a receipt with a 4c voucher on it and spent $20 in store to get the additional 10c off plus the carsales 8c.

Could be handy now the footy is over

  • Great find! Cheers OP

Let's be honest, 7 Eleven Fuel Lock is still cheaper.
For instance u98 near me is 157.9 at Coles Express, so potentially 149.9.
Meanwhile the same fuel is 145.9 at 7 Eleven with the fuel app.

    • -7

For those enthusiasts who care about the quality of the fuel, Shell is better however.

      • +3

Is that really a thing? I can't imagine the camrys and minivans hanging around this fine joint really care about the origins of its fuel…?

        • +1

Yes so definitely not the majority of OzBargainers.

Maybe I should've reworded the initial comment lol.

      • How can that be?
There's not a separate refinery for each brand.

        • +2

Each brand has different additives. 'Base' fuel is identical (all from same refinery as you pointed out).

      • -2

For those that know anything about anything this is complete BS.

Pretty much all 98RON is the same.
It will likely come from the same place - just follow the trucks from the terminal.

We also have higher manufacturing standards then imported fuel.

The greater majority of 7/11 fuel is sourced from local refineries with much higher standards then some imported counterparts.

But still all the same difference.

        • +5

I initially thought it was placebo but after a few tuners that yielded better results from BP U98 in particular compared to others, it's changed my perspective.

For the average driver, especially OzBargainers there is absolutely nothing wrong with 7/11 fuel, I use it all the time…

          • +2

@TheOneWhoKnocks: Well, My car performs and sounds really different with shell premium and bp98. It doesn't take to be an enthusiast to tell the difference.

        • I can 100% unequivocally state that this is not true.

One of my cars runs like trash on vPower. It hunts and almost stalls at idle. Any other 98 fuel is fine. In fact, I find Costco 98 to be just fine!

        • When I use the Budget Petrol 98 in my 09 Holden Cruze, it is barely able to get up a steep hill, doing half the speed limit and in the last possible gear. Now that I am using Shell VPower 98, I'm barely in 4th gear, about to break the speed limit, getting me a fine from the camera :(

      • Enthusiasts, now that's funny. Can you provide any actual evidence to back up your assertion?

      • Haha what a myth you must be one of those suckers that gobble up the "this simple equation so you don't have to worry about the math" ads. So many potatoes hook line and sinker

        • +1

Haha what a myth you must be one of those suckers that gobble up the "this simple equation so you don't have to worry about the math" ads.

Far from it champion. If you have a modified car with a tune specifically catered for U98, tuners recommend to use BP just due to the nature of the additives.

This is not a matter of being a 'sucker' to marketing tactics. If you read my comments above you would understand that.

  • how long does the code last for before expiring?

    Eastern States only :-(

Save 8c/L at Shell Coles Express if You Have a Car…

And if you don't have a car?!

    • +3

      You save much more!

  • Shell Coles Express near my area is often more expensive than other providers. Yes, we may get a good deal stacking up various app offers, flybuys offer, docket, shop in the store, etc - Just too much hassle

    • +1

Use an app like gasbuddy or motormouth to search coles express outlets with the lowest fuel prices near you (or at a reachable distance). Then use these offers on those to get the best possible price. Usually in outlets surrounded by other cheaper providers nearby, they have to provide better prices to stay competitive.

  • +2

Petrol only, doesn't work for diesel.

    • Only on your first fill up. The 4c/L discount works with Diesel though.
I believe its because there is no stupidly high markup with diesel, as there is with petrol… as petrol prices fluctuate about 50c/L between peak and trough for some random reason…

  • Just saw this on my app. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to get the flybuys? I'm not aware of any offer.

    • +1

It's usually a weekly targeted offer from Flybuys..

  • Excludes LPG. No use to me :(

  • Anyone in WA test to see if the barcode doesn't work?

    • Someone I know can use it, we are in Perth

  • +1

I got 10c/l discount from one off promo from flybuys, still find their fuel more expensive after discount somtimes..even if the same, still don't go to them based on principle alone

  • +1

Coles in multiple areas in Sydney are ~40c/L more expensive than other speedway and metro fuel outlets.

  • I know from experience one of my car broke twice using Caltex petrol and had to clean the petrol tank, both times from different caltex stores. After that i never filled petrol with any Caltex sign on. Only shell and BP as the cost of cleaning the petrol tank was too much. Never had a issue with unleaded petrol with BP or Shell.

    • What car was it? I surely don't want to have the same issue :(

  • I tried it in Perth and it does work.

  • +1

I noticed the discount is now 4c per litre, I'm in perth, is it the same for those eastern states?

edit, reading above it's only the first fill that is 8c.

still pretty good if it is every day, saves looking for the vouchers.

  • Stumbled across this last night. Got in this morning before prices jumped 42c/l!!

    Nice find.

  • +1

Nice to see it worked for some, operator tried and tried however it didn't work for me despite reading all the FAQ when it didn't work the first time. Anyone else have a fail?
I purchased 96 litres so this is a $7.68 discount I missed out on.

Carsales admits there is a problem, and their solution of "tough, you'll still get it next time" is pathetic :

This has been raised with our fuel team who are currently working with Viva and Coles Express to determine what might be wrong here however, we don't have an exact time frame on when this will be fixed.

Unfortunately it does look to be a point of sale issue effecting multiple Coles Express locations but please be assured your account will still have the discount available to you once we figure this out.

As if I'm going to try again when I have no way of knowing until after filling up that the discount doesn't work. Its not as if I can give the fuel back is it?

    • Carsales now says they are sending out a $10 voucher for their stuff-up. We'll see…..

      • Got the voucher.

  • 8c per liter is first use
it then becomes a 4c voucher which can be used once per day.
Stackable with other coles express offers such as spend in store etc
