This is my first post so please be kind ☺ I have been following the price of this TV for a while now and this is by far the best deal I have seen. RRP of about $8400 and Sony have it down to $6000 this month but I just came across this coupon deal this arvo to get about $900 extra off! Some other sizes are also available for a good price as well.

  • That's an amazing price

  • +1

Would love to own one of those!

  • Good price! Also the 75" is $1700 cheaper @ $3395.75 with code.

    • That's the annoying part isn't it, so much more for just 10 inches extra… Worth it though 😜

      • It's relatively not bad considering the usual premium….

But yeah obviously 85 isn't the cost effective size.

      • 10-inches makes a difference

        • +5

          that's what she said

      • -2

It's a large increase in viewing area.

      • +3

aside from the obvious joke - it's actually over 28% bigger in viewing area - so 10 inches really does matter..

      • -3

Size matters ladies ;) winky winky teehee

  • +7

Wow. Just bought one on impulse! Good deal!

    • +5

A $5000 impulse buy? Wow. Respect.
      Congrats on your purchase.

TV too small. Can barely see it

    • +30

      Weird flex but ok.

      • +7

That quality looks terrible. Looks like a projector lol.

        • +5

          Look at all those wires!

          • @jelko: Need a bigger screen to find something entertaining on ABC. Maybe time to upgrade 200"?

    • +8

Great story. Thanks for sharing that with us.

    • (Since you don’t care about picture quality, brightness etc) your setup is a step down than someone with the same projector placed a few centimetres back, giving them a 120” screen size :)

      • -4

Mines a full HD 3d I use it to watch the news
It can go up to 300” 65 bucks to replace the globe every 5 years

        • Amazing.

        • what? it’s not even 4K???

  • +1

Thanks OP I bought the 65 inch version

Bought on impulse too, but this model seems to be good. :)

  • Great deal also been watching this tv. Whats eveyones thoughts on this being below $5k in upcoming black friday/cyber monday sales?

    • +1

I was wondering that but took the gamble any way, I don't think this TV will get below 5k for a while yet, it's still a current model

  • +1

How's the viewing angle on this beast?

    • It's meant to be pretty good compared to other similar units, that's one of the main reasons I chose it

    • Viewing angle is better on 75" and 85" X95 series due to X-Wide Angle layer incorporated into this VA type LCD.

However, the contrast will be way worse compared to 65" and 55" X95 series.

This layer also present in Sony top of the range Z9 Master series which have the same contrast reducing effect.

This is what disappoint me and put me off buying 85" X95 series.
I almost pull the trigger since I can see 65" X95 contrast are quite good, only to learn that their larger screen size of the same series has worse contrast.

Haha what a co-incidence. A few days back I had to make a decision between the Q75 82 inch Samsung or this exact 85 inch Sony.

Ended up getting sneaky recommendations from a Sony employee themselves saying to go with the Samsung 😂😂

    • Why that?

      • +1

Sony employer isn't very good. And if it's not a Q9, Is probably wrong.

      • They said that apparently there hadn't been any new tech in the TV for 3 years… Is this actually true?

  • gr8 deal

  • +1

    Broden worthy

  • +3

must resist at all cost.. !!
365 more days and this should be around $3k mark imo.

    • +1

      but then 95" at $5k

  • Is $2120 good price for the 65”?

    • Only OK. If that's delivered price, that's fine.

I got the 65" X95 via recent 20% off eBay through Myer online, $2000.

BTW, fantastic TV. Best picture and quality I've seen short of OLED.

  • Don't buy TV bigger than 75"

If you want cinema experience 85" or 75" makes no difference.

Get the new ultra short distance laser projectors that are coming to market with ALR screen it's taking off.

    • I'm glad I looked up ALR screens… looks awesome!

  • My wife doesn't think it's very practical having a TV so big. Going to be a tough sell I think.

    • +1

Anytime you sense there will be resistance, say a workmate bought it for you as a gift. Works with most things.

      • +1

Because she wouldn't notice $5,000 missing from the bank?

    • -2

lol you care what your wife thinks? grow a pair

      • Want to now what's wrong with the world? Look in the mirror.

  • +6

thanks bought one for the kids bedroom

  • spending 5k and not getting OLED ?

    • I'm not sure if there's a manufacturer making 85 inch OLEDs.

The biggest I could find on JB is 77 inch, LG and Sony have them. They're $10k…
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sony-a9g-77-master-series…
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-oled77c9pta-c9-series-…

      • my point is i think a 65 inch oled is a better buy

        • @piston3461

In that case, if it's 65 inch, then $5000 can definitely afford a very nice OLED. There's good options in that price range.

The deal OP posted is on an 85 inch display though, so it's not quite apples to apples.

      • +1

LG start selling 88" 8K OLED (available to buy in Australia now for eye watering price), although there is no 4K 88" OLED yet…

        • wow….I just looked it up…

          …$60k
