I'm getting no love from Google on this. R7 vs R8? In the 65". Is it worth it?

    • Yeah… I'm wondering that as well

    • +3

If I'm not mistaken, R8 has quantum dot as well as a higher refresh rate. I remember someone doing a comparison on a previous deal but can't seem to find it.

      Edit: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/473627#comment-7555097

According to the Hisense website the R8 has quantum dot and r7 doesn't, as you said.

I have both 55R7 and Pana 55inch OLED TV, I would recommend the 55R7, I am quite happy with the image and price. I cannot really see the difference between the OLED and LED tbh.

    • +5

I’d love to know how you came to that wildly inaccurate conclusion.

      • +1

You can buy both OLED and LED and put them together to compare like me if you want..Although they are two kinds of technology, but really no different from my eyes.

If you still think that little difference is worth $1000 more, I would say go for it..

Also I don't think $1999 for Pana 55inch OLED TV is a bargain. I bought around $1500 with Amex HN offer.

        • +1

I own a good LCD and an OLED and they’re completely different. The difference would be even more pronounced with a low end LCD like the Hisense models.

          • @tp0: OLED and LCD are completely different tech. There's no doubt you see the difference there.

Cxy0614 was comparing an LED to OLED.

            • @2023: LED TVs are tens of thousands of dollars, can’t be bought in stores and definitely aren’t called Hisense R7.

LED is simply the type of backlight used on modern LCD displays.

              • +1

@tp0: You've made it pretty clear on many of these posts you that think Hisense is trash despite numerous reviews from reputable outlets to the contrary. In fact you seem to think anything that isn't a Sony or a Samsung isn't worth looking at. So maybe it's time to go outside for a little while instead of trawling forums in search of opportunities to spread your tv snobbery.

                • @shaun1800: The Hisense TVs we get in Australia are unique to our market. Since there are no reputable Australian TV reviewers I’m not exactly sure what you could be referring to.

Also for the record. I don’t particularly care for Samsung TVs but LG and Panasonic sell some great TVs.

  • I am not able to add the PATRON20 discount, anyone else?
    Regards

    • No issues for me this morning. Ordered a 75R7 with 20% discount and $40 delivery paid $1,860.

    • If you set your Ebay account up on an international ie USA site aussie codes will not work. a 5 min call to customer service will fix it

  • When will you ship to North Queensland. I can never get involved in your deals.

      Get Bob Katter onto it.

  • CRAZY good value here, people.

Killed by $240 shipping to Sunshine Coast …

I reckon there is a chance Videopro would match it for collection if you spoke with the right person in Store. In my past R7 buy with them, they weren't keen on price match by phone, but it seems they have an "ebay" team which is generally a person per shop. If you ask for them, then show the deal, you may have a chance? North Lakes is your closest though

      • +2

I called video pro earlier after seeing this, asked if they would match it and they did.
        65R8 for $1395 and I said I would collect, so I did.

  • Can you guys help me, deciding between this:
TCL 65" 65X7 Series 7 QLED TV - $1228.20 inc postage PLUS $200 cash back
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TCL-65-65X7-Series-7-QLED-TV/333…

    Or this:
    65R8 Hisense 65" R8 4K UHD SMART ULED TV - $1395 inc postage
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/65R8-Hisense-65-R8-4K-UHD-SMART-…

From what I understand the deferences are the TCL has android tv and the Hisense has their own software
Any major differences plz let me know, thank you so much appreciate it!

    • All comes to down to Persoanl preferences. I know some may argue for and against xyz features vs features from here. Some argue the minor details that you probably wouldn’t notice the big difference, I would be more inclined to say the Hisence P7 is the safer choice. Hope this helps!

      • As someone who knows absolutely nothing about tv’s, I went into a HN store to compare a few models in this price range. I was ignoring all brands and features and just going off what I thought was the best picture quality.

I found the TCL was really punching above its weight, and will probably buy one if another good deal pops in about 2 months time.

  • Is there a huge difference between 55p8m TCL and 55r7? Just bought the 55p8m but haven't picked it up.

    • +1

P8M you get HDR10, while R7 has Dolby Vision, so the R7 is a class above P8M, which should really compare with R6

    • We picked up the TCL 55c8 (latest 2019 model) from these guys. We were looking at this or the Hisense 55R7 and went with the TCL as it has chromecast, android TV and a sound bar. Pretty happy with it so far.

  • Thanks OP, very reasonable price, just bought one, cheers

  • +2

    75R6 vs 65R7 (or maybe even 65R8).

Size vs model, what's the best way to go? Currently upgrading from an older 55" Samsung that's pushing 7 years old.

One thing that does annoy me is the back light bleed on the current Samsung. The R7 series seem to have local dimming, will this reduce the bleed?

    • +2

      Maybe very slightly.

If you want to eliminate back light bleed, you're going to have to go with an OLED panel.

    • +3

If you have the space for 75…go 75.

  • Anyway you can get these prices matched by a local retailer?

    • Thinking th same thing. Even if they can't match it get it in the ballpark for me to consider.

  • +1

    $120 postage to Brisbane hurts

    • Video pro price matched for me :)

  • One more question, how does the R7 compare to the Samsung RU7100, they are about the same price. My TV usage is mostly sports and streaming TV Shows / films. I don't game or watch Blu Rays.

  • Might be worth to wait for boxing day sale.

    • +1

      Last year was underwhelming iirc

  • Does the Panasonic oled have HDMI 2.1? Their website doesn't say what version it is. Just says hdcp 2.2

    • No it does not. The only OLED TV that has hdmi 2.1 in 2019 is the LG C9. If you want to buy a Panasonic OLED I suggest to wait until next year for hdmi 2.1 that's what I'm doing. I refuse to buy LG. But that's just me.

      • All OLED TVs use LG panel so you are buying LG either way..

        • -2

Incorrect. Yes they use the same panel. But the technology that they use to run that panel is different, video processing is as important as a panel and they are different in both Panasonic and LG. " Do your research" if you think a good panel makes a good TV you are wrong, panels are just half of the story the other half is the technology that drives it.

This is why I consider the Panasonic OLED TV a different TV and a superior TV to the LG C9 I'm just waiting until the 2020 model for hdmi 2.1.

          • @CheapOjoe:

Yes they use the same panel.

            That's all I was saying..

  • I have just got the 65R8, happy with it so far, I have just noticed that when I look down the top of the tv, it bends slightly, anyone elses do that lol?

  • Just bought the 75inch, thanks!

  • +1

Tossing up between the 65R6 vs. R7. Is there a big difference between the two? Would I be fine just going with the R6?

  • Thanks OP, got the 65r7.

Quite a few reviews on Google are very positive. The review from Gadget guy from May 19 said it was good value at 2k (the price at the good guys then) so it must be great value at 50% of that just 5 months later.

  • hi guys, Can anyone suggest a good wall mount for 65' Tvs? great if you can share your experience.
    thanks in advance!

    • Selby's Acoustic… Melbourne based store .. look at their website.

Their phone support is top notch and their prices are very well priced for a local store.

  • Still waiting for the 75r7 to get back down to $1600 again like the good guys eBay deal.

  • Bugger, looks like I missed out on the 50R7. That's what I get for umming and ahhing :(
