Good deal to match the recent one from ANA
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/491824

Lots of comments and questions there if anyone is asking about best time to go, etc.

    • I booked yesterday for early april with ana for similar prices.

  • +1

I booked last month in the sale, similar dates > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483921

Also some convo in here around dates and when summer hits etc

Dropping some deals right before VA earns its spot!

  • Accommodation looks pricey for May compared to this year.

    • Golden week time… avoid.

    • Golden week is the start of May until about the 6th-7th. What part of may were you looking in? back half of May should be fine.

  • Hanging out for late March departure early April return… C'mon, c'mon…

    • They have these, depends where you're leaving from

      • Had a look but no luck yet :( Need Mel - Tokyo, Osaka - Mel.

        • there is. you can fly on JAL for under $700.

Wait till Virgin launches their services. The deals would be plenty then!

Plenty of deals but very unsustainable though.

      • How so?

        • +1

I don't think they will follow the same path as HK

IMO the best time to go is in the fall. November.

    • +2

Autumn is always the best time to go anywhere unless you want beach or snow.

  • Counted 4 times seeing Qantas staff closed the toilets for cleaning on a direct flight to Tokyo. Quite impressed because a lot of airlines don't.

    • +2

They probably did this to compete with the Japanese airlines, JAL toilets were pristine throughout the flight.

      • They'll never be as good as JAL but they're pretty close.

  • why so many tickets to Japan these days?

    • its currently the most popular tourist destination in the world. and either the most or near most popular for australians specifically.

      • +4

and either the most or near most popular for australians specifically.

I found it hard to believe; even when compared to Bali ?

        • +1

Ok i mixed up some data.
its one of the fastest growing destinations for australia in the top of the charts (some little places have gone up 100+% because they went from 3 visiotrs to 7 type deal). Also one of the most searched on travel sites by australians.
But yeah it is still behind New zealand, indonesia (bali) and a couple others for actual visitors.
Still its one of the biggest ones, its growing, Virgin are about to start flights. Lots of reasons to try and become the 'go to' airline for japan visiting.

World Rugby Cup had a huuuuge amount of bogans in Tokyo last month. Outside of Tokyo hardly any.

          • @Clear: Really? Union supporters dont tend to be bogans. More rich public school boys

          Bali?
Don’t want to be executed for illegally having sex with my fiancé thanks.

          • @WingedNike: seriously man ?

            • +2

              @tempura: Sharia law etc.

Look it up. I think putting your dingaling into a woman who isn't your wife is punishable by lashing or death if the parties are already married. These laws are coming from Hadith (Islamic teachings from long ago) as opposed to Quran.

          • @WingedNike:

Don’t want to be executed for illegally having sex with my fiancé thanks.

            Can't hold the desire much?

            • @Taro Milk Tea: it's his fiancé for crying out loud …

              • +2

                @tempura: *her

Also it’s not just a matter of keeping it in my pants… me and my fiancé are gay and very queer, so we’re not going anywhere near a place that has sharia law and will execute us for existing, no thank you.

                We love Japan though!

  • +1 for the efforts!

  • whats the average price to jp for regular tickets? $1000 return?

    • 600ish or so is considered a great deal, but is not too uncommon.

That's not usually on full-service, award-winning, comfortable airlines, with direct flights (usually its 15 hour stopovers), like these QANTAS flights and the current JAL deals.
