[flybuys] Earn 1 Glassware Credit for Every $20 Spend, Redeem 25-35 Credits for Spiegelau Glasses 2pk @ Coles & Liquorland

180

Just received this in an email from flybuys as the Coles (plus Liquorland) latest giveaway. Basically, when you spend $20 or more and scan your flybuys card you receive 'Glassware credits'. Once you've accrued enough points you redeem them on the web site and then pick up your glassware in-store.

The brand of glassware is Spiegelau, which is apparently made by Reidel, and there's six sets of two glasses to select from.

  • Mix Drink Glass 430ml 2 Pack - 25 Credits
  • Long Drink Glass 550ml 2 Pack - 25 Credits
  • Beer Glass 400ml 2 Pack - 30 Credits
  • Champagne Glass 250ml 2 Pack - 30 Credits
  • White Wine Glass 380ml 2 Pack - 35 Credits
  • Red Wine Glass 490ml 2 Pack - 35 Credits

I would not call it Free..

    • How exactly is it not free? You are getting something in addition for spending the same amount of money you normally would.

      • +6

That makes it a bonus, not free.

        • +5

A potential bonus, if all of the conditions are met.

      • It's passively free lol

  • +19

Yes but it takes 25 credits to redeem 2x glasses. So you need to spend $20 transactions of 25 = $500 minimum to get 2x glasses.

    • lol wotiff

I expect they'll have bonus credits for buying certain products or scanning a coupon. No doubt Coles has bought a heap of stock and they'll need to offload it somehow.

      • +4

the number of credits required is too high

      • With Coles this will be rare as they are not as generous as Woolies with bonuses. Probably the most they will include purchases made from Coles Express for fuel.

      • +2

In the catalog there’s bonus points for some alcohol products

        • Well you need something to put in the glasses.

    • +1

If the promotion runs for two months like the last container one, the average customer will easily earn at least one of these. Not bad for the people that shop at coles anyway.

      • 3 months for this promotion.

    • 4% cashback I mean glassback.

    • Plus if its the same as in the past each shop is independent. Therefore if you spend $39 five times, you only get 5 points. Even though you have spent $195.

  • +6

If you shop there regardless then it's an ok deal I guess. I prefer Woolies so won't be going out of my way to spend $1500 for a set of 6.

  • Obviously Coles is making too much profit, and will re-direct some of that profit into gifts to their customers.
They, obviously, would not factor in making an increased profit to cover the expense of the promotion.

It boggles my mind that they can do this yet still require the physical receipt for their fuel vouchers…

    • +1

And no NFC support for flybuys

      • +1

Yeah; I forgot my flybuys card this afternoon and couldn't redeem my flybuys dollars. I mean my driver licence is on my phone now …

        • You might as well put the flybuys app on your phone but you have to scan a barcode like a caveman.

          • +3

@coxymla: You need the physical card to redeem your flybuys dollars though unless you have a Coles Financial Services product (my flybuys barcode is in Google Pay)

            • +1

@kerfuffle: Oh, that's stupid. No wonder it never seems to ask me…

  • +3

I'd say their roughly $20 worth of value. The pro tip is not to go out of your way to get them, just be aware of any bonus credits and if it is for an item you need and the price is right, then go ahead.

As I said these are only worth about $20,whereas the real value for Coles is the bonus Flybuys which can sometimes give you upto the equivalent of 25% cashback.

The glass on the far left, I bought one that looks exactly the same from Big W for $2 about 3 months ago.

  • Spiegelau is owned by the Austrian glass manufacturer Riedel.

$600 worth of groceries for two beer glasses. Thanks, but I'll shop at Aldi, save $100 or more on the same shopping, and buy a set I like for $20.

  • European glassware made in either Germany or the Czech Republic.
What happened to Australian Made & keeping the dollars in our own economy?

    • Can you think of any glassware that's made in Australia?

      • -1

I think you missed my point.
They could “giveaway” products other than glassware.

        • +1

Can you think of anything that's Australian made that you think Coles should give away?

          • +1

            @kerfuffle: Milk :p

  • Only purchase I'm doing at Coles is 20% off Catch gift cards and of course excluded .

Coles Ebay ( not included) currently getting 15% off $100 and 5% extra with a gift card hence this can't compete ( no where close) !

    • Can someone help me translate this comment?

      • +1

The only way this user spends money at Coles are excluded from the glassware promotion. The discounts this user is getting by shopping through Coles eBay are not worth giving up compared to shopping at the store for glassware credits.

  • 4 days left on the promo and I hv 1 short of 25 credits thinking I would get there easily by another $20…..but just realised that they have now sold out the drink and beer glasses so need at least 30 credits for what’s left for redemption. Gutted coz. my pantry is already bursting so I ain’t gonna spend another $120 before the cut off :(

I got the sold out info on my flybuys app, not sure if there might still be some stores with slower run on the stock? Anyone had any luck redeeming with 25 credits these last couple of days?
