An excellent keyboard replacement and it's now free on Amazon's free app every day cycle.

I paid for it and still find it an excellent keyboard; especially with the new X version.

You just need to set up an Amazon account as explained in the previous postings.

i use it, paid for it, worth the price, brilliant. should come standard with android really.

    • +4

Seconded. This keyboard knows what I want to say before I can actually think of it. Ok bullshit. The keyboard is really good folks.

  • +2

How does this compare to that FlexT9 one? I'm struggling a bit with flexT9 the way it lays out the text box you're typing in. Half the time I can't see what I'm typing because its off the side of the screen.

    • +2

I've only briefly sampled Flex but find sliding keyboards especially awkward during words with successive multiple letters in them. I've found Swiftkey to be what I consider the best touch-type keyboard replacement for Android. Their prediction software is pretty neat too.

A good page for information of their features:
      http://www.androidcentral.com/swiftkey-x-here-making-text-pr…

      • +1

I have to agree SwiftKey is the best non-swipe and predictive keyboard I've used.

FlexT9 is the best keyboard which allows both, but does neither fantastically.

        • I found FlextT9 has the better predictive keyboard, Swiftkey x doesn't but has a better layout I guess.

      • +1

With double letters, you just do a little clockwise circle over the letter you want repeated.
I found it kinda hard to do at first.. but now i've got the hang of it, it's heaps better now!

    • +1

I got swiftkey X for my optus MyTab. It was ok but not great. I then got the FlexT9 on a recommendation of a friend and have found it to be the superior option. Much prefer the way FlexT9 does stuff.

  • +1

is there a way to download it without having an android phone at the moment?

    • I'm not too sure but you may be able to 'purchase' it through your account via their website and at least on record, it shows you have 'purchased' it and then you should be able to download it once you install Amazon apps onto your phone.

    • I am afraid cannot.

    • I haven't tried it myself but you can try installing it into an Android emulator such as Youwave.

      • +2

I just tried it. You can "purchase" with the Amazon app in Youwave but somehow it won't install. But that's all you need to put it in your Amazon app library until you get your Android device.

  • Shame the Tablet version is not free as well.

  • +2

I love the keyboard. It's very good at predictive text. And the themes it supports are cool as well. I use the neon theme. Can't wait for the day when Apple implements Swiftkey-like features, patents it, calls it a magical never-before-seen innovation and sues Swiftkey for it.

Edit: Lots of folks on XDA prefer the original Swiftkey saying it was better at predictive text. But I think the biggest plus points for me with Swiftkey is how it learns your typing style through Gmail, text messages and social networks. Stuff that I usually say, my usual sentence formation and colloquial stuff, it learnt. It's really cool. Swype tried predictive stuff but it's annoying.

  • Any way around having to have a US amazon acct?

    • +1

Afraid not my friend. You can buy it from the Market but obviously it won't be free. I suggest using the workaround to create a US amazon account. Takes not 5 minutes but the benefits of which you'll see every day. I swear, a minimum of 3 apps per week are REALLY good offerings from Amazon AppStore. OP was kind enough to provide the how-to link.

  • +2

OP: Just wanted to say thanks man. For pointing the how-to link for the guys that don't have a US Amazon account. I did this the week the workaround was found and it still works now all these months later so I recommend it to all.

  • Is this only free today?

    • +1

Deal expires in approximately 19 hours.

  • anyone help me with a fake US amazon address. Every address I type from the fakename generator gives me an error "The street name or number appears to be invalid."

Whats the format to type it in terms of Address Line 1, Address Line 2, City, State, ZIP

    • +1

Leave address line 2 blank. Example from fakename generator:

      Casey C. Floyd
      3228 Ottis Street
      Edmond, OK 73034

Address Line 1: 3228 Ottis Street
      City: Edmond
      State: OK (Oklahoma)
      Zip: 73034

      • Thanks buddy. Great app.

    • +2

Ignore the invalid claim and click continue again. It's just a warning it's wont actually stop you entering the address.

  • Got it earlier today and typing on it now, it's quite good however I also like the default HTC keyboard. I find my cursor is jumping around a bit with this keyboard.

  • thank you so much for letting us know. the beta just ran out and it's been hassling me to buy!

    • +3

Just because you fail at technology doesnt give you the right to neg it

      • yeah, Hero is fail, on noffence :P

        • But why should I make a fake US account when I've got a Amazon account already…. :(

    • -1

      (1) From PC created fake US Amazon account including 1-click details with US name, US address, US phone number and US credit card.
      (2) Found the Amazon app elsewhere so didn't have to submit any details to Amazon. Installed then updated it.

      Works great.

      • +2

Care to share where you found it elsewhere?

    • -3

      too much hassle for this.
      1st acc>>download the amazon app>>fake address>>then that stupid 1 click address thingo>>credit card!

dont think i wanna put in my credit card details with some fake address in it.

      • +1

You don't enter your credit card details. The guide explains what to do.

I've gotten some great free apps from Amazon using this system over ther last few months, was well worth the 5 minutes it took to setup.

      • stupid and lazy people everywhere

  • +1

I've been using this since some point in the beta, it's definitely one of the better keyboards I've used.

I was currently using FlexT9, I do like occasionally swiping.

The prediction (and learning) in Swiftkey X is much better!

Thank you for posting this deal, I've been failing to check Amazon App Store and the twitter accounts daily :>

  • So is there anything to stop you copying the app to another phone once you have downloaded it?

Also, does anyone know where the downloaded apk files "live" on an Android device?

    • in 'download' folder. you need something like astro file manager to get into files system

      • wont be there if you downloaded it from the appstore.

    • +1

It's stuck to your Amazon account. It won't install on another device unless you also have your Amazon account on it.

    • how about signing into the appstore on the other device and downloading it? Otherwise if that doesnt work, use a program like astro file manager (under menu—>tools—>application backup) to backup your program to an apk (will be in /sdcard/backups/apps folder). then just copy it across.

      • Well I did that method above but I am not comfortable with it… I think I am going to delete it.
Want to keep the app though :P

        • not comfortable?

        • +1

With opening the USA Amazon account as described above.
Handy, Yes. Right? Well you never know what can come back and haunt you.
So I am going to delete it.

        • +1

          ah ok. fair enough. :)

    • Yes, it'll likely validate it's license every-so-often.

  • Just got it for my Samsung Galaxy Tab (7"). Pity the tablet version isn't free too! Split keyboard would be nice.

  • @ venu
That Astro file manager sounds good. I'll definitely give it a go.
So I can use that to extract Apps I have downloaded to the SD card and then use them anywhere?
Sounds good. There is no licensing assciated with paid apps? Surely there must be something.
    Your IMEI?

    • im no expert on android devices (unlike others on ozbargain), but yes…you can backup any of the apps you've installed. It just puts it back into an apk. its stored on the internal sd card (not the external) in the folder /sdcard/backups/apps. So copy it from there to the external sd (/sdcard/external_sd) or to your computer, to transfer it. The apps are not linked to your device. If you paid for it, you should be free to put it on all your devices!

Also, another program 'titanium backup' you can 'batch' backup all your apps (in case you wipe your phone to factory settings or something). Its really handy if you have a lot of apps.

  • it still require a payment method?

  • +2

When trying to download SwiftKey X from Amazon Appstore (I created an American account) I am getting a message "The Amazon Appstore for Android is not yet available in your region. Anyone has this issue?

    • You need to download the APK that's listed in that blog post.

      • +2

That's exactly what I did. I downloaded and installed amazon appstore App on my phone, logged in using American Amazon account but when tried to download SwiftKey received the above message

        • Same here wth

        • how do you log in? you should log in that app that you downloaded and installed on you mobile, not into amazon website.

  • -6

how to i download this app on my iphone?

    • +18
      1. Throw iphone in bin
      2. Purchase android phone
      3. Download app from amazon market
      • +14

That's mean. What did that bin ever do to deserve such rubbish?

      • +1

        4 . ???
        5 . Profit!

  • +2

Its a good keyboard, unfortunately i used this one with Swype and you know, once you swype you can't go back

    • +2

Swype takes quite a while to break in, and it's still alien for many. But once you do settle… it's glorious.

    • +1

You're right. You can't go back, when it breaks with the latest OS update & won't let you uninstall. It was great while it worked… But the only official solution atm is to manually delete & leave uninstalled :(

  • thanks! was just about to purchase because the beta ran out. this keyboard rules, swiftkey> swype!

  • Would have loved the Swiftkey X Tablet to be free for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 :(

Swype isn't very good for large keyboards.

  • I paid for this app when it first came out. It's still my default keyboard. Awesome app.

  • How do you register on amazon? I just clicked at the top "start here" (Hello. Sign in to get personalized recommendations. New customer? Start here.) and it told me to type in my email, name and password. It did not ask for US address

    • +1

This is the process I did with my sister's phone and was confused at this point too. Instructions however, are off the top of my head so please bear with any errors.

If you click on the link above (click the SwiftKey X picture) and click purchase, it should prompt you to enter your e-mail address to download and install the Amazon app. (maybe set up a dud Gmail account to workaround this to prevent using your legit e-mail if you don't want to be tied in). The e-mail should provide adequate instructions to download and install the Amazon app onto your device.

Once installed, it'll prompt you to log in to your Amazon account and in order to download/order the app, you have to sign-up for the 1-click process. Merely just input/confirm the fake US address, fake US mobile number and fake US CC and it should then allow you to start downloading.

This was the process I performed and it worked.

  • Awesome keyboard for Android - UNLESS you change your screen DPI (which I do). Definitely pick this one up though.

  • Yup, cannot download in this region. And before someone tells me to use the app linked above, i did. So bob19, your not the only one…

  • Hmmm 2 others in the office have the same problem.

  • It appears a reboot fixed this for two of us. Process is a little convoluted, but this will be worthwhile, thanks to the OP, nice find.

  • I am also getting the same error as bob19 ""The Amazon Appstore for Android is not yet available in your region". rebooted my phone also. Any other recommendations?

    • +1

Make sure you use an actual US CC; whether that be legit or from fake generator. I got this when I entered in a foreign CC regardless of my billing address. I deleted the CC details as they stored it under my account and simply just entered a US CC instead and got through fine.

      • Followed the instructions to the letter but getting the same error. I had another account on amazon and I de-registered my device on that account but still the same problem. Cleared application cache on the phone and re-installed but no luck yet.

        • +1

probably obvious, but make sure you put in a 'generic' e-mail address, (ie not .com.au)

        • +1

Do everything on the phone/tablet too is my advice. Make a new email, make a new amazon account, make sure to use the specific app market app listed above, pop in the details and it will hopefully work for you.

I think some of the guys here had trouble as they were logged into amazon on their pc (with the account they were 'americanizing')

I rebooted, started fresh and did everything on the phone.

Also, i cleared all data from the previous attempt from the amazon app on my tablet.

          hope that helps mate….

  • Best Keyboard out there, I had Swiftkey before this and I got Swiftkey x for free when it came out of beta. Definitely worth it.

  • +1

Awesome thanks, worked well and used mailinator for my email.

  • Was using swipe, but the prediction in this might outweigh the ability to swype. Swype also has a habbit of wrongly correcting my text EVERY TIME sigh

  • used both this and FlextT9. Paid for this already. I think FlextT9 is better at swiping and is free.

    • DON'T CLICK, ADVERTISEMENT SCUM

      • You wanna expand on that for clarity's sake, mate?

      • +1

The link is merely to his/her business; doesn't prove relevant to the topic.

  • +1

Why does this app want full internet access? And to modify/delete SD card contents?

Android security is a bit of a joke when users are trained to accept this sort of thing with every app they install.
And there seems to be no way to deny particular permissions to an app.

    • Yeah I think its pretty sus too.

      • It's for optional access to facebook, twitter, etc to enhance text prediction

  • The developers aren't being paid for this, you may as well pirate it. (Then you can actually buy it later if you appreciate it.)

The public terms say they get 20% but they were forced to silently agree on 0%.

    • +1

0% isn't really an agreement at all.

    • Maybe your payment is just to increment the number of known users of their product. Same as visiting a website and being counted as a unique view.

  • Offer is gone! No longer free…too late to create an Amazon account for….

  • +1

Wtf is with this kbd inserting stuff at the start of sentences? Final straw was when it put "The Creator" at the start of a sentence in a work email. Back to flext9 for me lol.

  • Are there Any problems with updating the amazon app store after Installing?

    • There is no need to use the old version at all.
