Simple question:

Are you poor, rich, or doing okay and why?

I'll start:

I'm OK coz I wear Gucci, but I ride the bus.

Edit: accidentally pressed associated with gucci. Mods plz unmark me as a gucci associate, I am not rich enough yet

edit 2: thanks mods for removing my association with gucci, i am not a gucci associate yet haha, just an EY associate haha…haha unless? haha

There's blokes who make 500k a year, but have to pay $800 an hr for a girl. There's a bloke who earns 75k a year, but lays those girls for free.

Everyone is rich in something, but poor in something else.
However, money generally lets you buy anything and as a t-shirt on eBay once read "Money may not buy love, but it sure buys (profanity)" 🤣🤣🤣

No matter how rich always 4ever feel poor :P

I know several people who make 7 figure incomes and have done so for 20 years+. Most of them don’t consider themselves wealthy (just comfortable), and don’t spend their money on much at all. They all have several properties and might drive a nice car (nothing outlandish just some mid range German machinery mainly, but they keep them for a long time), but that’s about it.

    • +1

7 figures including after decimal? ;)

    • +1

well if you get a $20 mill house, you will probably feel as poor as someone on a 6 figure salary with a $2 mill house. that reminds me, I need to win tattslotto!

      • +2

No one I know who earns ~$1m owns anything like a $20m house. Not even close. Most live in houses worth $4-6m.

    OP / others,

After reading 'The Millionaire Next Door', it's quite enlightening to realise the a high income does not = high next worth (IE wealth).

If your salary stopped one month, how would you handle it. That's the question.

    • +1

Never thought about it like that before. At least I'll have my gucci still

  • If someone gave you 10 million dollars today, where do you see yourself? Close your eyes and picture that in your head. What you picture is what you dream of and what you would be doing to be truly happy.

Now delete that 10 million dollars and where are you right now? What are you doing and what aren't you doing to get to that 'dream picture' moments ago. Go on, be honest, only you would know if you are doing enough to get to your dreams.

Don't be the majority of people who die wondering or die with regret.

Live your life today and for every single day out there; you are rich, you have life, you have happiness. You are either living or existing, just think of that.

If youre still wearing gucci that means youre poor

  • +2

Rich, but I still won’t pay $5 for a double Bunnings snag.

  • +1

Doing ok… but time poor. So so time poor

    • +1

      Money = Time

      So you're also money poor.

  • +1

You'll stay poor if you keep wasting money on designer clothes.

You need to follow the 5x rule that smart rich people abide by. Everytime you purchase something you need to ask yourself:

'can I buy five of these right now with my own money'.

If the answer is no, you can't can't afford to buy it. The only exception is your house/mortgage.

  • +1

    I am completely average :p

    • That's what she said. ;)

  • +2

I feel ok. But by global standards am in the 1%.

  • +2

That reminds me…$1 Big Mac today!

    • -1

wot no way haha, i wonder what server will think seeing me ordering a 1 dollar big mac with gucci

      haha.

  • +1

Look, I understand how someone feels like earning $1m+ may feel like “just ok”, because of mortgage costs in fancy pants suburbs and expensive cars etc, but sorry. It’s doing bloody well, pull your head out. Just because the chosen house has a $2,3,4m mortgage on it DOES NOT equate to being poorer, just proves poorer choices.

I don’t understand how anyone on under $100k can afford to buy anything but regional/remote and exist. In all honesty, I think 75k+ is doing ok, <50k poor and >150k to be doing very well.

That being said, do whatever you want with your money, just don’t be a penis to people.

  • +1

Doing okay. Got a good salary but it feels like I'm not going anyway financially for my future. Property prices are stupid and I'm expecting a financial crash (for the past few years).

    • u should invest in stuff, like gucci mane

  • +1

You are only rich or poor when you compare yourself with others.
The question is do you have enough to survive (i.e. basic needs)? what extra do u need to enhance your life experience?

    • i wonder what people on the bus think of my gucci

      • You don't need to worry about what mere bus people think, man.

        You're wearing gucci

  • +1

    Define rich and poor.
The answer turns on the response.

  • +1

If you're a paid up home owner in Sydney then you're rich. Rent/housing's a bi*©h..

    • -1

yeah i heard a week's rent can buy u gucci! so expensive

  • No one in Australia is poor.

  • +2

I WEAR GUCCI ON THE BUS LOL

    • +2

no way haha that's pretty cool coz i wear gucci on the bus too haha people think im rich but i'm not that rich haha

  • +1

The definition of rich and poor is very wide and depends on the perspective on who is asking or how big ones wants and needs are and sometimes family is all some people need to feel wealthy.

  • -1

Anyone who hasn't answered 'chance', as the reason why is delusional and really needs to reflect on themselves and their life. Also guaranteed 3/4 of the people who voted 'ok' should have voted 'rich', part of being rich is becoming out of touch with reality, as often proven by ozbargainers here.

    • +1

I would consider 'rich' = could realistically give up working.

  • +1

Still yet to own an investment car but currently own with my SO a house in (far) west Sydney and only need one parent to work. So I feel like the am super rich.

    • +2

that's pretty good, maybe get ur SO some gucci too

  • +1

If I didn't have to save for the future I'd be 'rich', but saving makes me poor. :/

    • +1

just save for a gucci not the future

      • +1

If you're an associate at EY you're inherently poor until you find a better paying employer. You can't afford Gucci with the pay EY gives you.

        • Yeah I am poor haha but I own gucci

  • +3

"Who is rich? He who is content."

    "Who is that? Nobody."

    Love this Benjamin Franklin quote.

    • +1

haha yeah i love those lyrics in Gucci mane's Ben Franklin song. rap is so cool haha

  • +2

I think a solid purpose in life is more important.

Money only enables actions and choice. Most wealthy people I know chose to do nothing but be "rich". Problem with that lifestyle there is no meaning, hence spend it on drugs to escape that cognitive dissidence being ultimately made themselves redundant in life and others.

I dont wear brand clothing, if I going to be a billboard they should be paying me AFAIC.

    • +1

gucci is subtle tho so it's still really classy, like wearing tommy hilfiger jacket or a nice gucci cap

      • +1

If it makes you happy and not paying too much whatever then go with it. I'm up there with booshing cash on stupid crap but its cash for lolz and not living, nothing credit.

However considering the cost of those items of clothing, I would question your own sense of being aspirational. I see people in ghetto neighborhoods with new luxury European cars, they obviously rent, these cars left outside rotting on the street, probably leased vehicles, so rent and rent their cars too. They dont own anything, yet they think they've made it.

Seems "luxury" is the new normal, however its all a poverty trap. So to me when I see people wearing these brand clothing I think they're poor. I wear Target Essentials because I would feel sick paying anymore than $30 for a damn T shirt, rather save and put that money towards a better life. Target Essentials is subtle, some of their stuff is pretty good. i can spill gearbox oil on it and not care.

  • +1

The question that seems to be constantly on the lips of everybody I meet, is how can I live the Gucci Gucci lifestyle, on a Target Essentials budget?

    • +1

you can steal or use a credit card or something, it's worth it coz it's gucci

      haha.

      • +1

does it still count if I buy gucci from the op shop ?

        • Sure it does, as long as it's gucci

  • +1

I stopped getting cars because they're too expensive, and am painfully about to spend some $50 on a ratchet and some sockets to assemble my cheapo ebike. I think I'm ok.

  • +1

i will only consider a person being rich if he doesnt worry about losing a job, paying mortgage, going to work in the morning etc.

will be nice if you have stable income and can decide not to do anything and just stay at home or go whereever you like.

  • +1

Meaningless unless you provide definitions for rich, poor, ok.

Regardless I'll vote myself ok for these reasons: I work for a living and I can't quit my job at a whim, so I'm not rich. I know people much worse off that can't afford food, shelter, clothing, medicine, nevermind any luxuries, so I would never say poor.

  • +1

I drive a 5 year old SUV, live in a house on mortgage , have wonderful kids and happy wife .. considers myself rich..

Surprised that not many consider themselves as rich

    • +1

i neither wear gucci nor own an iphone.
People who knows me know that i can afford both..
      To others, i don't care

  • +1

I got a pay rise, sold my car to pay out my loan and bought a cheap car I can mostly fix myself. Im much happier and have almost no financial responsibility. I wear puma :p
