    From 'About IceTV' page:

    What is IceTV?
IceTV finds all your favourite shows on digital free-to-air TV and tells your TV Recorder at home to record them. With IceTV's advanced Interactive features and accurate TV Guide data, you'll never miss your favourite shows again.

What do I need to get started?
You need an IceTV membership and a compatible TV Recorder at home connected to your home network (the internet), to enjoy the full benefits of IceTV. There are 3 broad categories of TV Recorders to choose from. A set-top- box based Personal Video Recorder (PVR), or a full-blown Mac or Windows Media Center solution. All of which let you skip the ads in at least 30 second jumps and allow you to enjoy your favourite shows, when and how you want.
Regardless of which type of TV Recorder you choose, all come with a free trial membership to IceTV. Never miss another episode of your favourite shows with automatic series and keyword recording. Manage what you record at home remotely via your computer or mobile phone, plus a whole lot more. See all the interactive features.

  • If you have a PC based PVR, then also check out shepherd (svn.whuffy.com) for a free alternative

    • I may be wrong, but isn't Shepherd legally ambiguous (due to taking data from pay services such as IceTV and giving it out for free)?

      • Just read their faq (http://svn.whuffy.com/wiki/FAQ). I have no interest in this service and it took me 5 seconds to bring up that information. I'm assuming the affected websites probably consider it illegal, while shepherd doesn't.

        Is Shepherd legal?

Some of the grabbers used by Shepherd read web sites that say they don't want their data used in PVRs, but that doesn't mean it's illegal (http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~willu/w/xmltv/grabbers/index.htm…). Shepherd doesn't copy or distribute data, but rather allows individuals at home to read it via their PVRs. It operates in the same manner as a browser, sending HTTP requests and formatting the resultant HTML for display in a manner appropriate to the user.

Yeah, hence why I said "ambiguous", seems like a grey area… Just wasn't sure where the line was on posting this sort of stuff on Ozbargain?

Oh yeah, and it sould also be noted its Linux only :)

  • Ive never used Icetv, but ATM im using a free program called remote potato and im pretty happy with it. Can anyone tell me it compares with IceTV?
