  • I have a pair of these after seeing acomment recommend them on here at xmas. I paid US$165 so this is a nice price drop. The cable actually started playing up on them in August intermittently on the left ear cup. I contacted Sennheiser AU and they sent me a new cable straight away. Annoying the cable failed so fast, there wasnt a lot of use and I never move the headphones, but the service was good.

    • Must have been a bit unlucky, I’ve had mine since the first drop with no issues, but the cable definitely isn’t quite as good as what came with my HD6xx, HD600, or HD660. Seriously contemplating picking up a second pair of these at this price.

      • I have a set of B&W P5 which I really love but they are just garbage build quality. Had them replaced twice under warranty and each time was a pain. If they were built better id prefer them over these. That said the open back design really can fool you into thinking something is in the room with you (gaming). But I also have kids so there is no mistaking when they are in the room and im trying to play or watch something.

  • I expect these are 80-90% of the HD600 for 1/3 the price.
    (Sennheiser skeptic)

    • Quite different to the HD600, and closer to 1/2 the price than 1/3.

      • I remember seeing the HD600 for $399, but that was refurbished from Sennheiser direct.
        It’s currently around $450-$480 locally.

This deal is from Drop, so I imagine HD58X would cost slightly more if available locally so I guess you are correct.

$448 @ Addicted to Audio, leave in cart for a few days and you’ll be emailed a $20 discount promo code ($428 after code).

$429 @ Store DJ and Manny’s with $50 off $250 spend (looks like it’s now expired, but this deal is semi-regular).

HD58x for 1/3 price would put the HD600’s up around $600.

          • @aja12: Hey thanks for the info, I was aware up-until recently A2A gave a $10 discount for signing up (which seems to have been removed from the “sign up” dialogue).

Store DJ $50 off $250 spend… this deal is semi-regular.

Oh really, I thought it was a once off. Saw it for the first time recently for the “New store”.

HD58x for 1/3 price would put the HD600’s up around $600.

Yeah I was thinking it was $599 regular price, probably saw the price on Sennheiser AU website.

          • @aja12: Interesting to hear about the A2A discount code, is it a product-specific code or a general code (minimum spend?)

            • +1

@lyl: There is definitely a minimum spend requirement (though I’m not sure what it is), and the code they send is specific to the item you have in your cart. They send three emails over two or three days after you go through checkout without confirming payment - an item in cart reminder, then a $10 discount code, and then a “final offer” $20 discount code. The code only has a 6 hour expiry.

Would these be ok for phone use at home?
I'm not an audiophile at all. I have a old pair of hd215s whose pads are disintegrating and a pair of jbl synchros slate that I can't wear for more than a few hours because they hurt my ears.
I was thinking I could use these ones at home and the jbls out and about.
I'm keen on better quality headphones at home as I listen to music a lot, albeit from my phone. I live alone so open back doesn't worry me.

you're going to want an amp for this, unless your phone is one of those with emphasis on music circuitry. check out the Fiio k3 as a baseline, its about $150 on ebay and goes on sale occasionally.

if you need mobility, maybe the BTR3 or competitors. clip it on your shirt and stream from your phone/computer, but it'll need recharging once in a while. doesn't come with balanced output, though.

    • +1

yes, its lound enough to use with ur phone, any smart phone will do.

since the sh*it quality of the music file on ur phone, an amp won't help with anything at all.
u may hear some difference, but thats just a difference turnning of the amp.

    • Ok i've placed am order after looking at numerous reviews and comparing price wise to local stock of other headphones.
      Thanks OP!

  • Good price. Wish I didn't get the Sony WH1000XM3 yesterday.

    • always the same price from massdrop…

      • Still a lot better compared to the inflated price here

        • inflated price? what u talking about ?

      • +2

It’s not the normal price for the HD58x, it’s temporarily been reduced from $160 to $135.

    • +1

They're completely different headphones for completely different purposes though… If you're in the market for something like the Sony's then the 58X's aren't going to fit the bill

      • Not comparing the Sony to the Sennheiser. I meant to say I could've got the Sennheiser with the money saved.

  • Could have gotten the HD6XX for $180 recently as well… tough call to split between the two at those prices, though obviously the 6XX would need a proper amp.

    • Curious. Where did you see the HD 6xx for $180?

      • In fact it would have been US $175… there was a $25 off referral link, plus $20 off for a first-time Drop Studio purchase.

        • +1

I assume you are referring to custom links such as the $25 off link given to Z reviews, unfortunately it didn't stack with the $20 off Drop Studios when I tried. $25 off + $15 shipping brings the total of HD6XX to US$210 shipped, which when compared to this 58x $130 shipped, there is still a fair bit of a gap. Would bite on the HD6XX if there was a discount that could be combined with $20 off studios.

    • You don't really need a proper amp for 650/6XX. My schiit modi uber/magni 3 stack and straight out of galaxy S8 sound virtually indistinguishable with FLAC or 320kbps MP3.
For my HE500, amp clearly helps.

      • I'd imagine the S8 breaks up at high volume?

      • +1

I definitely don’t agree with this, HD6xx straight out of something like an S8 isn’t good. I’ve tried it. Volume = ok. Dynamics - turn to crap, flat, lifeless (compared to what the headphones are actually capable of). I’ve also owned the Magni 3, and I can’t understand how you’re not hearing the difference between a Galaxy S8 and a Magni 3 (assuming S8 is the source) amping something like the HD6xx.

  • How would these pair with my LG V30+ with its DAC? I listen to mostly bass heavy electronic music and would also use these for gaming, FPS shooter games.
Been looking for some good headphones for a while and these are right within my budget.

    • -3

It'll work with V30+, but to get the best out of the HD 58x, pair it with an amp. The V30+ has a great DAC but amplification is not that good.

    • Fine with the V30. If you mainly listen to electronic music, I’d avoid open back headphones. As for gaming, imaging is excellent but sound stage isn’t particularly wide. For your usage I’d give the Beyerdynamic DT770 (80 ohm) a look.

  • No shipping option to AU for some reason…

    • Hi ,

Thank you for contacting Drop Community Support.

This particular run doesn't allow shipments to Australia. We do everything we can to ship to as many countries as possible, but we're not always able to include every country for every run.

Factors that go into determining shipping eligibility include vendor limitations and import restrictions.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

      Sincerely,
      Drop Community Support

Looks like they won't ship this here, trying to get them to clarify whether this is a permanent change or just one off.
