New deal here. Currently cheaper at Edifier AU.

Amazon AU limited time deal.
Cheaper than previously cancelled “$382.49 Delivered” deal.

Slightly more expensive than Edifier AU’s $342.69 Delivered price, but they are currently out-of-stock.
(Use cashback on Amazon to close the gap)

Note: In my opinion these are the least appealing out of the Edifier bunch, with the R1280db / R1700bt being the best on budget, the R1850db / R2000db being ‘specialty’ models (extra inputs / power), and then you have the S2000 Pro & S3000 Pro with adequate jump in sound-quality & power as ‘Pro’ models.

Just my opinion but S1000db seems kind of lost in the middle, they could be ideal for a certain person though & there is one short 5-star review on Amazon AU (deal link).

If any owners could share their experience with the S1000db that would be appreciated.

  • Hmmm. I'd be keen to hear a shootout between these Edifiers and a Voll B50 & SMSL AD18 Combo but I can't justify spending $350 to do it myself :( Those Voll B50s are damn good speakers and the AD18 is an incredible little Amp plus being separates you get the flexibility of using it all in different configs later plus of course the AD18 allows for a far easier way of adding a Sub if required.

    • Do you have the Vol B50's? I still haven't seen or heard much about them.

      • Yep and I really like 'em. The front-firing port makes a huge difference IMO. Have run them on many Amps including some vintage 500W monoblock Perreauxs and they just keep cranking. Amazing for the price.

    Opinions on the S880DB?

Call me shallow but they look so damn pretty

    • S880db is cheapest on Edifier AU @ $325 (Free shipping to NSW & SA).
(Shipping costs to QLD $9.99, NT & WA $19.99).
They are the ‘Hi-Res’ model of the budget end, and have USB-input & the high-frequency extension of 40khz equal to the S3000 Pro.

Where they may seem lacking is in the low-end with a 3.7-inch (94mm) woofer, but it does also depend on DSP implementation & tuning, I have heard a few speakers with 3.5-inch woofers which sound just fine in the bass department. The S880db also has adequate amount of power.
For music I think they will be fine with adequate bass.

  • Id also consider studio speakers like Presonus Eris 5's or Mackie CR5BTs at that price. Both are active speakers and have balanced inputs for audio interfaces/DACs etc too

    • Yes while Studio monitors can often provide neutral-sound together with decent prices, they are built for ‘Pro-audio’ therefore are more complex in terms of setup / ease-of-use & features compared to the Edifiers.
(In addition to the Monitors in-order to get the same features as Edifier’s you will need to purchase a Pre-amp / Audio interface + cables + possibly a Bluetooth receiver)
(in addition to this usually the on / off switch is located on the back of each speaker requiring you to reach around both speakers everytime you use them)

The Edifiers are more a one-box unit with features such as multiple inputs, Bluetooth, greater control over sound-signature & a remote, and all these features means less cables, less learning-curve and a product easier to use for the typical-consumer.

I have heard good things about Presonus Eris E5, but Mackie CR3 - CR5BT have a terrible reputation of failing with the Class AB Amps over-heating and melting components inside (Mackie in general seem to have problems with buiid-quality).
