Note: In my opinion these are the least appealing out of the Edifier bunch, with the R1280db / R1700bt being the best on budget, the R1850db / R2000db being ‘specialty’ models (extra inputs / power / features), and then you have the S2000 Pro & S3000 Pro with adequate jump in sound-quality & power as ‘Pro’ models.

Just my opinion but S1000db seems kind of lost in the middle, as a product though it has plenty of features & they could be ideal for a certain person.
There is one short 5-star review on Amazon AU.

Also the S1000db uses titanium metal-dome tweeters, which while being detailed can be harsh & fatiguing to listen to. The S2000Pro has superior Planar-diaphragm tweeters which achieve just as much detail / resolution but are much less fatiguing to listen to, and IMO is overall the better speaker if only paying $100 more.

  • I'm very tempted by the R1700BT but would very much like aptX.
Can anyone comment on the sound quality of the S1000DB vs R1700BT? (wondering if it'll be worth the additional cost for better sound + aptx support)

    • I don't own one, but the S1000DB should have significantly better bass than the R1700BT (5.5" bass driver vs 4" bass driver). Also power (120W vs 66W).

If you can afford it, I'd say go for the S1000DB.

  • Thanks OP. I’m trying to compare apple and orange here, but still just wonder if the sound quality of these speakers are at least as good as the Bose QC35, which I already have, assuming I only need to listen alone and am not concerned about the difference in soundstage… between the two?

    • You can’t compare headphones to loudspeakers. They are extreme opposites. Sure, they both produce stereo sound but that’s where the similarity ends. I could go more into it but Google is your friend on this. Have fun.

The Bose QC35 being a headphone, it is difficult to compare.
Regarding just the sound-signature, I am aware QC35 has quite neutral / balanced sound.
The Edifier S1000DB with its titanium-dome tweeters can be have harsh / bright treble, and together with its 5.5-inch woofer the sound is naturally V-shaped.

An ozbargain owner has shared their experience with the S1000DB and they did mention the mid-range being muddy & recessed.

I will recommend the S2000Pro for a more balanced / neutral sound-signature, together with higher levels of detail, thanks to Planar-diaphragm tweeter & more power behind the same size woofer (35w vs 50w - more power translates to more control over the driver).
The cheapest for S2000Pro has been $440 Delivered. Possibly it may get as low as $380-400 for Black Friday.
