Xiaomi Mi A3 Dual Sim 4GB/64GB (Grey Import) - Not Just Blue $212.80 Delivered via TobyDeals

410

This is even cheaper than last time. Great value phone given the specs.

Ive had the phone now for 3 weeks and it has been great.

Pros: Snappy performance, awesome design, great battery life, good camera, screen aspect ratio, Android One
Cons: In display fingerprint sensor is crap

The screen is much better than expected. This shouldn't be a deal breaker. I also assumed not being able to change the swipe navigation to 3 buttons was going to be a negative, but I've found the swipe navigation much more intuitive.

    B28 it does not have.

Once you start down the path to band 28, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

  • Anyone had experience with warranty claims with TobyDeals? Assuming the warranty sits with them.

    • +1

Usual situation with overseas suppliers is no real warranty.
The cost of return post is expensive.
Plenty of reports of asian supplier warranty nightmares on the net.
The price you pay for getting it dirt cheap.
For a real warranty you need to buy a phone from a local retailer.

Does the 128GB model have B28, or is it a typo on their detail page?
    https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/xiaomi-mi-a3-dual-…

Actually seems like some may have B28, eg.
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3n4y04q3?p=3#r6544827…

    • +1

Proceed with caution if you count on B28 to be on this model as there are discrepancies on the spec list for the posted 64GB model also.

      There it states: Screen Resolution : 1080 x 2160, Camera Primary: 12 + 20 Secondary 20, Battery Capacity: 3010mAh all wrong specs.

Edit: After reading your whirlpool link it looks like the 128GB version Does Have B28, even people confirming buying 128GB from ebay also. The 64GB cheaper version does not as it's marketed to India, pretty confusing.

Kimovil shows the global versions having B28, and the India versions not having B28
        https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-mi-a3

        • Ok, so people need to look out for "Global Version" Not "Global Rom" and/or model No: M1906F9SH taken from your link.

This listing says "International version" and does not list B28 in specs, which is right???

  • How does this compare to the Nokia 6.1?

    • +1

The Mi A3 is newer, with a larger screen within a similar external dimension, it has an AMOLED screen, a 50% better battery and CPU, and a better camera.
The Nokia 6.1 has NFC though, which the Mi A3 does not.

my nokia 6.1 does not have NFC but the Australian stock ones do, I greyed mine and it was missing the NFC

  • Bought one, but should have bought last week from catch with 20% off gift cards :-( Would have been $190

Woah 720p. The a2 was 1080p. Disappointing even at this price point.

    • amoled vs lcd , pixels

    • Description says 720p but the specifications have 1080 x 2160! Not sure which one is correct.

      • +2

        Definitely 720p.

As for the confusion around Band 28, if you look at Toby's website and compare the "Xiaomi Mi A3 Dual Sim 4GB/64GB - Not just Blue" vs "Xiaomi Mi A3 Dual Sim 4GB/64GB with Tempered Glass Screen Protector and Folding Case (Black) - Not just Blue", one is listed with no B28 and the other with B28 & both are called "international models". Same thing happened with the Mi 9T and I emailed Toby and they clarified all their 9Ts were with B28.

Best to drop Toby an email to clarify.

It's 720p AMOLED. Better than 1080p LCD. You can get the A2 for about the same price if you want but the A3 is better in every way

      • +2

I wouldn't say better.. if you value crisp text/webpages/reading etc then 1080p LCD will be nicer, if you value deep blacks and better dynamic range for media consumption then 720p amoled would be the way to go

Personally I can't stand the pixelation around the edges of text and logos with 720p screens, so I'd always choose the 1080p LCD even if the colours aren't quite as good.. IPS LCD actually looks great to me though

Great deal. Now about as cheap as the awesome A2 ever was.

  • Compare to redmi note 8 ?

  • +1

Tobydeals has a definite advantage for Australian buyers by not kowtowing to the ATO.

  • Main downside is the 720p screen. A real disappointment compared to the Mi A2. Sure, it's AMOLED, but 720p is just not as crisp as 1080p or better. It's not much faster than the Mi A2 either.

  • Regular price appears to be only $224? So $12 discount??

    • Looks like it's about $350 elsewhere. Nice deal!

      • That cant be right - $330 - $360 will get you the far higher spec Mi 9 Lite..

  • The Mi A3 is the global version of the cc9e shouldn't they all have band 28?

  • Umidigi power 3 is just over $200 delivered with a coupon on AliExpress ATM, for the next 2 days. Phone was officially released on the 11th of November.

Or wait for it to be available on the Umidigi Australia eBay store.

    • Power 3 and A3 are completely different phones. Power 3 is massive and will likely never see software updates. Mi A3 is a much smaller phone and is part of android one program.

      Weight: 218g vs 173g
      Dimensions: 162.1 x 77.2 x 10.3 vs 153.5 x 71.9 x 8.5

Also, I'll take Snapdragon 665 any day over Mediatek Helio P60.

      • Umidigi do their fair share of OTA updates. They are a good company who're getting into the retail space in Australia soon.

Wouldn't be so quick to shoot down MTK SOCs, real day to day use is what matters, plus they benchmark well against their SD competition.

  • Toby finally got back to me on my stock request about the Mi A3. Surprise surprise. They have no stock of the black or blue (64GB) I asked about.

  • Why do I need band 28 for again?

Makes connection more stable or something yeah?
If I'm never going to live further than 10km from the Sydney cdb, is it a big deal?
