I love Pyrex. Find their products to be great quality for great prices!

    • Hi CEO

      • Lol, nope.

Just a happy customer, multiple times over :)

Happy customers are a thing, you know!

I find the made in France better than USA, lighter glass.

    • +9

Pyrex made in France is still Borosilicate glass, where the US uses Soda Lime glass instead.

Borosilicate is far better for cookwear, it just breaks into much sharper bits if you drop it.

Plus it has higher thermal shock resistance. I'd just boycott them. They probably charge the same as if it was made of Borosilicate glass. Shouldn't be allowed to call it Pyrex.

"Pyrex made in France is still Borosilicate glass" <— only buy this. The soda lime stuff, avoid. And the old pyrex in thrift stores is usually the good stuff and very cheap.

      From wikipedia

Corning Consumer Products Company licenses the pyrex (all lowercase) brand for their tempered soda-lime glass line of kitchenware products sold for the consumer market in the United States, South America, and Asia. In the regions of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East the PYREX (all uppercase) brand is licensed by International Cookware for use on their borosilicate glass products."

Wow, didn't know got different version of pyrex. Like Corelle I guess huh. Thanks

So is this US or France made?

      • +2

Last time I checked Big W two years ago they stocked both. Their main dish & lid sets were made in US and some of the bowls were made in France. Now some could even be made in China lol.

Better deal at Costco, upto 17th November. $19.99 for the 5 Piece Storage (https://www.costco.com.au/medias/sys_master/h94/h0c/16226375…)

    • Yeah, sadly all sold out at Epping and won't even be restocked!

  • They're often at 50% off at Woolworths and Coles. Don't know how the actual prices compare but would imagine they'd be cheaper.

  • Are their knives any good?

    Is this Pyrex or PYREX?

  • Don't get their storage containers. If you put the plastic lids in the dishwasher, they will become brittle and break or shred plastic into your food. Then you are left with a glass container with no lid.

They do offer replacement lids but they cost as much as a new container!

  • I dont understand why dont make a glassware that can goes on the stove top like in other country

    • +1

      Wot?

      • It is a grey glassware that be used on stove top ! We saw it in Viet Nam.

        • You can find those from house, it's a bit different to this though. Those can go on stove too has different base. They're just not apple to apple.

        • Ok but Pyrex isn't made here. It's made in China. Or possibly even Viet Nam. So I'm not sure what you mean by "like in other country"…

  • I find on the new pyrex measuring jugs that the measuring labels on the side rub off too quickly. They faded within a year or two, while my old pyrex jugs are still good after 6 years.

    • Likewise! Might have something to do with toxic substances but who knows… ?

    • We've had ours for 5yrs+ and it's finally just a glass jug. Perfect time to get a new one!
