  • Great price I recently upgraded from the FT2 to the FT3, both are great but for a reliable camera on a budget this is a winner

  • Not familiar with the Lumix range, but the price I thought still seems high for a budget camera. Are these better than $200ish range IXUS?

    • +2

This is the feature you are paying for …
"This Panasonic Lumix FT2 Digital Camera is ten metres waterproof, two metres drop proof, dust proof and frost proof. "

      • +1

        You might want to consider something else if the "waterproof" feature is your reason for buying;
        http://www.cnet.com.au/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ft2-339300655.htm…
many people seem to report that it isn't very waterproof at all :(

        • a bunch of bad reviews I've seen looks like they expect the camera to be more waterproof that it states. eg. swimming at a beach - wave hits are more than 2atm of pressure.

I would expect it to be able to handle a bit of rain, a dunk in the water and a light swim in calm water.

        • I was thinking that too, but some people have even reported problems from rain…

Others have reported INTERNAL condensation issues; this doesn't even require the presence of "water"
(It is normal for cameras to get condensation on the OUTSIDE of the lens when changing climate but INSIDE is a bit more serious because you can't wipe it away)

It seems quite a few people are also mentioning problems with corrosion despite following the recommendations to soak it in fresh water after use in salt water - the more I read about it the more I am convinced it is not really properly designed to be "waterproof" at all :(

    • At that price, its the cheapest rugged and waterproof camera by a brand name

  • No GPS :(

    • I wish my FT3 didn't have a GPS it's does drain the battery faster and its slow at times to get a decent fix

        I turned mine off :P

Not the best reviews with a lot of reports of water leakage.

    • The FT1 had some seals issues but the FT2 has an improved seal not as good as he FT3 but I can say I've owned 2 FT2's and had plenty of friends with them no issues with leakage sometimes the odd internal fog if you moved it between extremes 2 fast

  • I believe this is EOL model however this is a very good price.

  • I have a lumix, only downside is night shots are the worst :(

  • No RAW files from the dpreview above.

  • Fantastic deal. Bought one from WOW on Friday for $279. Owed the FT1 and it was great for underwater shots and 720p footage. Out of the tough cameras, it's the best on market for photos and footage especially at this price. Definitely recommend. Dropped on rocky shores at the beach numerous times and it didn't even scratch. Just remember to wash salt water and sand off with fresh water and dry before putting it away :)

  • This is a great deal. Definitely would've bought if I hadn't already bought the DMC-TS3 (US version of the FT3) a month back. Awesome camera, took it diving at the great barrier reef and it was awesome. If anyone is interested I got my FT3 from eGlobal for $360 shipped, only took 2 days to Adelaide http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/panasonic-lumix-dmc-… it was the best price I could find at the time.

    • Also if anyone is wondering whether the GPS in the FT3 is worth the extra I recently went on a road trip from Adelaide to cairns via the coast and this is the result: http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/07/26/6387_screen_shot_2011…

Very cool to see exactly where you've taken photos but it does have a few issues like the two photos it said were out in the sea! It seems to have particular problems when in the car and it's always a good idea to whack it on the dash until the gps light goes off otherwise you may find it tagging photos with the last known location instead of your current one. It's not really that dependable but I personally think it's a great feature.

  • Cnet user reviews kinda put me off with all the issues regarding the waterproof feature. :/

    • Agreed, and the internal fogging/clouding some mention could be a concern even just moving from an air-conditioned car/building to outdoors :(
Then again some people on here also seem to be happy with theirs - maybe they have poor quality control in the manufacturing process or bad design (as far as the seals go) and the people on here were just lucky ???

  • Although there are a few bad reviews in terms of its waterproof quality, this is still a significantly discounted price for a waterproof, shockproof camera from a well known manufacturer.

    • Agreed webbj, it is a decent price, but after all the complaints I have read about leaking, condensation, and corrosion, I would be concerned if the "waterproof" feature you mention was one of the factors that convinced me to buy this camera :(

On the plus side it does seem to produce nice images, so as a "normal" camera it seems it would not be a bad choice at the discounted price :)

      • Ive ordered one, shall see how it goes waterproof wise. I was looking at this model several months ago but couldn't justify the $400ish for the device. I have had two cameras get wrecked from sand/grit being used on beaches etc.

I'm hoping to use this on the beach and sandy areas and not have it get clogged with grit. Hopefully i can also 'rinse' it off underwater if it gets dusty etc, and fingers crossed it will keep working!

  • I have this camera and noticed no issues as you guys say.

I went to bali with it a while back went white water rafting with it on video the whole time (as long as the battery let me) ther was bangs crashes, underneath a waterfall….

Also used it in the Bounty pool……lol…survived…oh yeh…i never cleaned it :P

Still working fine couple of months afer that.
If it survives bali it can survive anything :P

  • sold out ???

    • looks like that.

  • Jb have got this one from Olympus thats reasonably close, it was $250 today in sale , maybe can still haggle for same price.

  • For those who missed out, perhaps look at the FT-10 instead?
