Toner cartridges are around $500 for it. Aftermarket ones. Originals around $900

Too bad for the toner cost, not buying it

  • Isn't toner usually expensive? $100+ for one?

Some tonner has the drum built in, which is expense to replace. Some machine has the seperate tonner and drum. Normally drum can run 10x life of the tonner, so it's kind of waste to replace them together.

      • Ahhh, thanks for that info.

      Isn't toner usually expensive?

Not always. Check before buying a printer!!

$40 delivered for a set of 4 for me:

      • Wow, just did a quick calculation and your toner would have still only cost sub $40 for ~8000 pages for one as opposed to this one using refills for around $75 for ~8000 pages.

I am a printing nerd and noticed that colour lasers (unlike B&W's) suck toner on every start/warm-up because of the calibration process, so for a few pages a month you'll pay dearly… The waste cartridge would put inkjets to shame. But if you do large runs it isn't much of a problem.

Ink jets purge ink regularly to prevent blocked nozzles. A big pro of a toner printer is that it will not be faulty if left for long inactive periods, ink printheads will die and are expensive. Best bang for buck is a black and white laser printer with a separate toner cartridge, and use third party toner. I have a Xerox colour laser that I got for $100 and cartridges are $10. Drums have a 50k sheet life, which is 20 boxes of paper, most home users will never print that much in their lives. Definitely avoid printers with drum and toner combined or ink and head combined, they are expensive to run.
