    Which RAM frequency?

    • -3

      Daily

      • +2

        Not micro-secondly??

      • One cycle per day RAM, wow. That would be 1/86,400 Hz!

        • Might explain why it's cheap.

  • +1

Windows 10 Professional pre-installed with Windows 7 Professional license key

    :\

    • +18

It probably means a Win7 OEM licence but these were (and still are) all able to be upgraded for free to Win10 legitimately.

      • +2

The old, install windows 7, hactivate it and then do a clean upgrade to 10 😎👍

        • +1

Clean Install Windows 10 Version 1607 Using a Windows 7 Product Key.
Then use the windows 10 upgrade assistant to update

          BAM Legit windows no prob

    • +1

Win7 Pro is still entitled to upgrade to win10.

      • Still? I thought that wound up years ago. Cool.

        • +4

          Operative word is Pro.

          • +5

@Manny Calavera: Windows 7 Home licenses can still be used to activate Windows 10 Home. I last did it about two days ago.

            • @rogerm22: I remember reading they had a set date to which they'd stop offering Free Upgrade to Hoem users… did some directive change, or they couldn't be bothered patching ?

              • @capslock janitor: The date was for all users, not just Home users. It was in 2016. There a period of time after that when you had to use the specific upgrade tool for people using Assistive Technologies to still be able to upgrade. But it's been quite some time since that was needed. You just need a valid license for Windows 7 or 8, to be able to upgrade for free.

  • Is RAM upgradeable?

    • I think both RAM and SSD, but I'm wondering if the dGPU is also upgradeable.
If there was a way to (cheaply) upgrade it to a GTX 1650 or 1050 Ti, that would make this a great value as a PC that lives next to a Monitor or a TV.

      • +2

Unfortunately no. It will be BGA.
        Cheers

        • How?

          Switchable Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 8790M Graphics 2GB
          Intel HD Graphics

          And why??

          • +4

@capslock janitor: Switchable graphics switch between the CPU/internal GPU and the dedicated GPU to save power for the battery.
Intel HD = internal CPU & AMD is the dedicated BGA GPU on the motherboard.
It has nothing to do with an upgrade-able GPU.
The motherboard is one piece with the CPU/GPU integrated and doesn't have a sister card GPU (MXM) option.
The GPU has to be an MXM type of graphics and tbh, if this PC was an MXM up-gradable GPU, the GTX1060 will cost $800 just for the card and not even worth it.
Also you have to factor a compatible HSF for the GPU upgrade.
Then the additional cost is disassembly, upgrade and re-assembly
You buy this laptop for occasional computing and light gaming and that's it.
For the price it is (was) a bargain

    DVD RW
    4 x USB 3.0 ports

deserves a plus vote just for these features

    • +2

who uses optical discs anymore ?

      • +2

        What are optical discs?

        • +6

like 5.25 discs but with lasers

          • @mudguppy1: Just to be clear. They're like the single notched 5.25" discs, don't confuse them with the double notched variant.

      • +4

who uses optical discs anymore ?

They're great for keeping birds off your veggies…

        • they tend to degrade in the weather though.

          • +4

@mudguppy1: I tried it with mechanical hard drives, but the birds just ignored them…

            • @jv: just take the discs out they work just as well

            • @jv: guarantee they posted about you on BirdPool and had a laugh.

      • well, me.
        hence the comment? lol

      • +1

Me and the boys in the cars so we don't have our huge USB sticks sticking out of the stereos.

      • Just put a HDD in the optical drive = extra space.

        4 x USB 3.0 ports

^ what a winner, they barely make em like they used to.

I find minimum 3 USBA ports most convenient

  • +2

really wish i didn't miss this deal. This is exactly what I needed. If anyone has something similar please let me know

  • +1

    This is/was a fantastic deal.

I have a few of these E6540's at my work. They are rock-solid, reliable, perfectly adequate performance for all but modern gaming or video editing.

Even the CPU, although 'only' 4th gneration, is barely 5% slower than the current equivalent (Core i7-8665U).

I'd probably try to find another 4GB of RAM, but as DDR3 is so relatively expensive, I wouldn't bother going to 16 GB.

Add a PR03X (or 2X) docking station for about $20 off eBay, and a VESA monitor stand dock (maybe $40), and you have an incredible value system, likely to last another four or five years.

It'd be worth picking up if under $300, even if this deal is gone.

  • Would buy one if still available.

    • 8 more in stock be quick

      • God damn missed out again!

    • I just bought one. Back in stock.

  • I clicked buy it now - and before I could click confirm at the cart - it disappeared?

Just came across this about 10 mins ago. Saw 8 listed for sale w discount on ebay. One by one all got sold between 3.06pm and 3.09pm

    • Very true.

  • +1

    Got one, thanks OP!

Now does anyone have good deals for a 4gb stick of DDR3 RAM :D

  • F**K! This could've served me well until I find a decent T420!!

  • Only downside of this is the 5 yo hardware, as long as you don't drop it I guess it can last another 5 years. I would have considered this a temporary upgrade from my 6 yo hardware given the better GPU and FHD. Then it's become another loaner laptop.

  • Mine had arrived today. Pretty clean unit, shows some wear on the keyboard and touch pad from human sandpaper.

  • Thanks OP. I received mine today. Minimal wear and tear (only a couple of surface scratches on the front case). Very happy with purchase.

  • Any more, OP?

  • Four more were listed again today 4/12/19, sold out again pretty quickly. Was lucky enough to grab one.

    • god damn it missed out again!

  • RAM is DDR3L I was told. You can't use DDR3
