Reckon they missed the decimal point

        • Yeah I’d never heard of Sam Kim before, it’s funny how dan murphys make the reviewers name really small, the other one they use is dan murphys Wine panel, which could mean anything. Literally cash for comment. Aldi coffee judges work in a similar way, medals for everyone as long as you pay to compete.

          • @Stewardo: Sam Kim has been around a very long time but would generally give a bottle of muddy water from the barossa 93 pts.

That said, it's not exactly cash for comments. $34 per wine is probably just a way to stop people sending him shit and to fund the website (which doesn't have ads, which is nice, but also has no tracking cookies, facebook trackers, etc. Privacy Badger blocks nothing).

The real review will sell you official stickers to put on your bottle, they're selling their name as much as anyone else is - https://www.therealreview.com/stickers/

            • @freefall101: Sounds like he works on my uncle's old system - if it's drinkable it's a 10. If the above is 95 Grange must be 125+.

            • @freefall101: I think charging 7-8 cents per sticker to alert people to an unpaid review is a bit different to charging $34 to receive a review, especially when the person charging for the review has a tendency to

give a bottle of muddy water from the barossa 93 pts

              to use your words.

    AND it's 975mL.

    Is that all?

From the picture, I was expecting a flagon.

    • +1

      For $10?

    • +22

jv you can do better, just take your time

      • jv you can do better

        Yep, searching for a gallon…

      • +2

It's pretty funny. A flagon is only marginally larger, like 10% bigger. It's a deliberately ridiculous complaint.

  • +5

I bought this wine mainly so I could reuse the bottle like a VOSS water bottle.

The wine isn't that great no way it's 95 points. Drinkable though.

    • +34

They're using the 167 point system.

  • +8

nice find op, for $10 !

im either going to feel like a alcoholic hobo or a hipster with a big beard drinking this wine from that shaped bottle

    • +2

what about the bearded hobo's ?

      • +3

Arent hipsters supposed to treat their beards with smashed avo oil?

    • I think you're meant to pour it into a glass, rather than drink it from the bottle ;)

      • +2

A hipster would surely be using a mason jar?

        • +1

yes, you're right and would be an appropriate size in relation to the bottle.

  • +6

Thanks op grabbed 2! Looks like a great little squealer bottle as well

  • Awesome, got 2!

  • +1

    got 2, xmas presents sorted

  • +4

Thanks OP, this will help me live my dream of becoming a pirate aarrrggh

  • +1

Is it silly to buy this simply because it's $10 and has a cool bottle? Any good as a cooking wine?

    • +10

They are the only reasons you should be buying.

      • +2

Good enough for me then, purchased.

"Woods Crampton The People's Champion" sounds like the first title in new children's book series.

    • was thinking hamish and andy (ala "the people's podcast") myself

  • thanks, bought 2

  • +1

Don’t forget cashback of $0.35 per bottle via CR.

    • +2

Use ShopBack instead and save a further $0.05.

      • +1

I find SB’s tracking rather inconsistent. So stuck with CR instead.

        • +1

Fair enough. SB been good to me. Got my 40c pending already

          • +2

@Goonos: Same , really quick SB tracking

  • +1

    2 for me 2 thanks

  • +3

"Want some rye? Course ya do!"

  • +1

I would buy that just for the bottle!

    • +1

      Brings back memory.
I used to remember those "1 Gallon" glass jugs/bottles.

  • +2

Been looking for a replacement instrument to have a hoedown!

  • +3

not much in to wine, bought 2 - just because of many likes and its expensive everywhere !

  • +1

People’s Champion?! When did the Rock start making Shiraz?

  • -5

Is a huge challenge to drink this like a boss, then use this as a petrol bomb in HongKong.

  • +1

Cheers OP . Got 2 - just for the bottle - wine is a plus

  • +1

Good deal, thanks OP. Also, DM's click and collect for the efficient win. Order ready to collect 7 mins after I placed it…

  • +1

From OP's DP, it looks like he took a bottle or two of this already.

  • +1

I've got 4 litres of wine coming my way. I'm not sure why though.

  • +2

Yay. 100 upvotes said don’t ask and just buy.

    cool display pieces

  • +2

I'm looking to strip the paint off an old chair. Will this do the job?

    • +4

Depends on how old. If it's within the last 42~ years, you should be okay. It also depends if its water or oil based, as emulsion paints have acrylic or vinyl resins added to them which may react with the wine being used.

Hope this helps with your business case formulation process.

    • +1

Coke is cheaper and would do the job perfectly.

  • -1

To everyone losing their mind at the bottle - have ya'll never heard of a growler?

    • +3

Is a growler the same as a squealer?

      • No- squealer is about half the size of a growler

      • +2

Almost, growler is 1.89L and squealer is 945ml :)

      • +4

I dont mind a growler, but a squealer can bit a bit distracting..

        • Death growls or pig squeals?

    • It's a pleasant bottle to put onto the counter. The wine more importantly is tolerable and smooth

  • Was plenty available at glenunga SA store a few hours ago

  • Bought 2, just for the bottle. Probably better taste than https://www.liquorama.net/nuka-dark-rum-750ml.html

  • +2

It's actually decent for a mid week wine, not really a full bodied shriaz. Got mine for $12 each when BWS had an offer earlier in the year

  • Cheers! Just cleaned out Dan's plenty road

  • Seems to be unavailable around Noosa, also Gold Coast.

    • I bought 2 bottles from Robina this afternoon

  • +2

Bought half a dozen, just popped one open and not too shabby at all. Packs a decent punch. 95 points might have been a touch generous but I'd happily keep buying and drinking it for this price - as someone pointed out would make quite a good midweek drop.

  • +9

Can confirm 975ml. With every ml, it’s getting closer to 95 point rating.

    Hiccup.

    • +4

Im at about 900ml now, tast is nice for the price, so much so i just orderd 5 more

  • +1

Got 6. For the bottles plus cooking wine + guests. I don't even drink wine. Thanks OP.

    • +1

How do you cook your guests? Any seasonings, temperature and time?

      • +1

Braise in human stock then finish under the grill for a nice crispy skin, just like pork 😂

  • This bottle, for some reason, is incredibly hard to open.

  • Corrimal store found one dusty bottle out the back. Wondered why people were suddenly asking about it. The bottle is cute, the image online is definitely lacking some scale comparison. They're banking on people like me who have no idea about the volume of things.

  • +8

And suddenly everyone on ozbargain are wine conneseuirs criticing on a $10 wine.

    • +2

      Not to mention spelling

      • Your sentence doesn't even flow. I'm sorry auto correct bothered you so much.

        • It does flow, but you need to look beyond the actual words. Irrespective, my "flow" is apparently better than your poor attempt to cover-up. Auto-correct corrects although it may provide a totally incorrect word. You have two words which didn't exist in the English dictionary when last I looked.

  • +5

How long will it take to get my eye sight back after drinking this wine?

  • +3

This bottle makes me think of: "Lisa, never stop in the middle of a hoedown"

  • I got 3, it’s tasty. Thanks OP!

  • 1 left in Rowville, I only took 3… thanks OP makes good present because it's not so obvious ;)

  • Thanks OP.Ordered 1 because of FOMO.47 bottles left at Shepparton store.

  • How are you guys finding out number of bottles left?

    • +3

Find the store you want ,add say 100 bottles & it will tell you sorry there's only x amount left .

      • +1

Ahhh nice, thinking outside the square

  • +1

tried a glass of this tonight, has surprising depth for the price point, definiely not a 95 point wine,

    id say its 92-93 max,

the blackberry depth shines through for me, without the harsh acidic after taste common with cheap wines

    • you get a fairly unique bottle, now to work out what to put in it!
