Zero 8 Electric Scooter SG $784 / AU $845 Delivered (Further 5% off) @ Falcon PEV

The popular Zero 9 is ranked as the best electric scooter under $1200 (USD) by Electric-Scooter.Guide.
https://electric-scooter.guide/best-rated/best-electric-scoo…

The Zero 8 is the very similar, lower priced little brother, and both are considered a step above entry level eScooters such as Xiaomi M365/Ninebot ES2 (which I have been using for over 1 year).

Love a double-dip. I just noticed the well reviewed Zero 8 scooter is on sale for SG$699 - plus I found a discount code for an extra 5% off (site-wide I believe), bringing the price down to SG$664 (AU$ 717) plus delivery.

Review: https://electric-scooter.guide/reviews/zero-8-review/
The Zero 8 is considered a decent upgrade from an entry level scooter such as the Xiaomi M365 or Ninebot ES2 (which I'm upgrading from).

I was considering this Zero 8 or the very similar but up-spec Zero 9 (I missed the 11.11 sale last week).
But in the end, considering how similar the 2 scooters are, I could not justify paying an extra 40% (SG$300 / AU$324) for the Zero 9.

Unlike most sub-$1000 scooters, the Zero scooters are real wheel drive so much better for hills (my Ninebot spins the front wheel when manually kicking up steep inclines).
The Zero 8 has air filled front tyre (comfort and grip) with a solid rear tyre for the motor (no flats - which are harder to fix on the motor wheel).

Delivery for me to QLD was SG$120 / AU$130.
Falcon PEV are the distributor for the Asia Pacific region - based in Singapore I believe.
2.5 hours after ordering, I have the FedEx tracking number and ETA of this Friday 22 Nov.

Great site for comparing scooters (in a sortable/filterable table) to narrow down the perfect scooter for you.

I highly recommend the 2 items below:

Rear Carry Handle (also doubles as a rear foot rest, to keep your foot off the rear mudguard):

Trolley Wheels (so you can roll the scooter while folded):

NOTE: this electric scooter is only legal to ride on (some) roads/footpaths in QLD (if limited to 25 KM/h).
People are still buying and riding electric scooters in other states - but in most cases they are being ridden illegally as I believe most other states have a 10 KM/h speed or 200 watt motor limit.
Please check your local state laws re electric scooter use (which hopefully change soon to support this great commuting method).

  • So this can be uncapped to 40km/he upon request?

    • I believe so.
In fact it may come unrestricted.

I ordered at 3:15pm Saturday, and 2.5 hours later I have the FedEx tracking number.
      Not bad…

For security reasons they request photo proof of your delivery address (from a utility bill etc) and the last 4 digits (only) of the credit card.
      They accept PayPal (no surcharge).

    • I just received a Zero 9 from Falcon EV. No speed limitation applied when shipped.

      • Thanks, good to know.
Is there a plate on the bottom that lists motor power and top speed?

        • No plate. Only identifier is a number on the motor being 48V600W.

Good price for the 8 but I'm hoping for a repeat of 11.11 prices on the 9 over the holiday season.

    • I hear ya. Im hoping for a further price drop on the 8 so I can claim the price protection on my credit card..

      • Falcon is doing 10% off the Zero range for Black Friday.

Don't know if you can use that to claim price protection?

        • I'm gonna try :)

        • @TheAccountant how you know about the sale? i was after zero 9, 10% if okay but hurts after missing the 22%

        • I think most cc only covers Australian retailers.

But hey howd you know theres 10% off on black friday. I was told there will be one but they didnt specifically mention what will it be!

Will jump on the 8 once its on 10% disc.

          • @Ch Rs: I thought I saw an email or a popup banner saying 10% off for Black Friday..
But maybe they changed their mind and are just doing a few specific specials - although the Zero8 remains the same at SGD699 (less the 5% code in this post).

For the same 699 price to be honest the Inokim Quick 3 seems to be the better featured scooter.. just 10% less motor power.

    • I missed the 11.11 price on the 9. What was it? Nvm was already here on ozb.

  • You’ll have to pay GST too no? Anyway Ninebot Max can be bought for $999 and I think is the more solid scooter.

    • No GST charged by seller, and none of the people I know of who have bought from Falcon have had any extra charges applied in Oz ?

I considered the Ninebot Max but ruled it out:

      • its physical dimensions are way too big - due to the way it folds it would not fit below train seats - its around 0.5 meter tall folded.

      • the 350w watt (nominal) motor is too weak (I'm looking for a decent upgrade from my current Ninebot ES2). The Zero8 is 40% more powerful.

    • No GST or customs duty applied to mine when received last week.

Keep a lookout for prices in Singapore. It was recently banned on footpaths and demand has dropped drastically. Most stores would be overstocked and keen to get rid of electric scooters.

  • I would wait in line and somersault for a Zero 7 scooter.

  • I ruled out on getting the max as its too bulky and heavy. 18kg on this one. Wonder if its still too heavy for portability. Is this bulkier than m365pro?

    • I just took some side by side photos of my new Zero 8 beside my 1yr old Ninebot ES2 - will upload them.

Also check this quick video comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZemLhvNv-8

I havent ridden my Zero8 yet, but the build quality is nice.
Its ~17 KG compared to less than 13 KG on the Ninebot - so the weight is noticeable - but no problem for carrying short distances like up a flight of stairs (at my house).

However - its cannot be "rolled" standing upright one handed like my Ninebot. So needs to be carried folded OR rolled unfolded. Or add the luggage wheel attachment.

      • Thanks much!! Thats really compact dang!

Im more inclined to Zero 8 now. M365pro front wheel drive is just not good enough. I reckon 18kg still manageable.

Hows the warranty with this guy though if there is any issues.

        • Warranty is 6 months and I believe buyer pays the shipping - so like most things imported from overseas its not always economical to ship back - so that's a trade-off of the cheaper import price.

Fyi several Aussie retailers are selling the Zero8 for $999 with free delivery - that's $150 more for an Australian warranty.

Falcon PEV have a good reputation - they are the biggest global distributor outside of USA - its just the postage cost.
Spare parts (brakes, the display/throttle) are fairly cheap to buy.

I just ordered the black metal rear handle (also doubles as a foot rest and protects rear mudguard) from Falcon a few mins ago.
Should have bought it with scooter - saved some shipping cost.

          • @systmworks: Hey which metal handle are you referring to? Cant seem to find it. Mind sharing the link?

Might be getting it together with the scooter later on. Cheers

            • @Ch Rs: Handle:
              https://www.falconpev.com.sg/collections/accessories/product…

This is the link to the trolley wheels, that I also wish Id ordered with the scooter (as the freight to get them later is a killer).
              https://www.falconpev.com.sg/collections/accessories/product…

              • @systmworks: How come it cant be rolled folded standing up?

                • @richmond12: My Ninebot can easily - but since the Zero scooter has most of the weight in the deck/rear motor (not the stem) and while locked in the folded position the handlebars/front wheel can still rotate almost 180 degrees, trying to roll it on the front wheel while holding the handlebars means gravity makes the heavy deck either roll to the left or the right.

You could try pushing it with the deck down rather than up but need a steep angle because the front wheel folds up, so too shallow an angle and the bottom of the deck (where the trolley wheels attach) touches the ground.

                • @richmond12: Link to 2 pics of Zero on the train (where I am right now)

                  http://imgur.com/a/NQdPQV0

Folded it fits under/behind seats. Need to watch it doesn't tip over during a rough train sway/brake though.

I found the best train method is to lower the stem and fold in the handlebars, but keep it upright, and store the deck under the seats while the stem fits beside my thigh and I can keep it steady if required.
In that pic I would be sitting beside the stem so a passenger can sit next to me (my bag is normally on the floor).

                  • @systmworks: Thanks, I am looking at the zero 9, so sounds like the trolly wheels are important?

                    • @richmond12: Depends on how you need/intend on transporting it.
If you can go from A to B and leave it in scooter mode (unfolded) the whole time, then you may not need them.
If you only need to carry the scooter a very short distance (like from car boot, to house), then you may not need them.

But if you think you will find it easier to fold the scooter down to its smallest size (rather than just lowering the handlebar height and folding down grips) so it fits under a train seat or car boot, and need to transport it in that position for more than 20 meters without unfolding it, the wheels will be a lot easier than carrying the weight.

  • So whats the real world range like?

    • Would like to know this too

    • Ive never run mine flat (only owned a week) so cant tell you, and its very dependent on rider weight and flat vs non-flat terrain.

But rule of thumb is 30% less than the manufacturer claims.
The 10AH model claims 35KM (so 25KM real world) and the 13AH model (8/9) claims 45KM (so 32KM real world).

Personally I would base my max daily ride distance against half the manufacturer claim, to give some extra leeway.
If you travel 8KM each way (16 KM per day) then the 10AH with 25+ KM expected real world range should be OK.
But if you travel 12KM each way (24 KM per day) then the 10AH may do it, but Id go for a larger capacity model.

      • Did you slime your tyres?

        • Not yet. Solid rear, air filled front on the 8.
I did buy a spare tube.

  • Inokim quick 3 on sale with same price as zero8. Havent done any research on inokim but looks way uglier than the 8. And specs nearly similar to the 8. But their retail price is generally more expensive. No idea why.

  • Black rear carry handle just installed (easy).

    https://imgur.com/a/1cMUzRP

You can see where on 1 day my foot l accidentally pushed the mudguard against the tyre and wore a chunk out.

The carry handle is only accessible when the scooter is unfolded - but I've found that it's much easier to leave the scooter unfolded for train travel anyway - just lower the stem, roll the deck under the seat, and optionally fold down 1 or both of the handlebar grips.

I mostly bought this handle to protect the rear mudguard but it will also be helpful lifting the unfolded scooter onto a train when the platform is not at floor height.

    • Thanks i got the zero 9 on order and thinking about the handle. I tried researching the use of it… I thought it help dragging the scooter around when folded? No?

      • No - it's tucked in under the stem when folded - it's more to help lift the scooter when unfolded (eg up stairs or on/off train) - good for when you are going to ride it so don't want to fold down just for a minute to carry as folding/unfolding takes 10-20 seconds so not as fast as some.

I find I'm only folding mine for the car and leaving upright (but stem lowered) the rest of the time when not riding.

      • @richmond12
Did you end up getting any good deal on Zero9?
i am interested as well, but since the blackfriday discount is not as good as the single day discount, so i m still deciding.

  • Does anyone know oe if the zero 8 or 9 come pre slimed?

    • No mention of it so 99% sure they are not.
On the 8 the rear (motor) tyre is solid so only front has air.
