Yeah, but this is better for booking work trips ;)

    • Does this include $2 Agoda cash you get automatically if you created an Agoda account for the first time ?

I've noticed activating cashrewards changes the rate for the rooms.

    • +5

Yeah I’ve found the rates change depending on whether you get to Agoda via a Cashback site, TripAdvisor, trivago, google, direct, etc. Have to spend 30 mins finding the best method to get the cheapest price 🤦‍♂️

      • +1

        So what have you found?

        • +3

Via Cashback sites always has a higher rate.. sometimes the difference is less than the Cashback amount, sometimes more. Last couple of bookings I’ve found that via TripAdvisor worked out cheapest

      • Sometimes you can double dip if you go through the normal site, and while checking out activate cashback service of your choice via extension.

        • What do you mean via extension?

        • +2

I just did it. It worked. There was no increase in price at checkout

    • +1 Depending on the affiliate site I use, Agoda keeps changing the hotel prices. What I realised is the most expensive ones are when I use my corporate or publicly available cashback sites. Usually, it is only worth using these cashback sites, if you book well ahead of your journey. If I book shortly before my trip or last minute though, comparison sites such as Tripadvisor gives me the best price. Tripadvisor sometimes refers me to Agoda as the cheapest option, sometimes to Expedia, but never to Booking.com. Also, make sure you book from the app, while you're logged in, because sometimes Agoda gives extra incentives even after an affiliate referral (eg. Tripadvisor).

Agoda are scum, they'll show you a different rate if you go through their website vs comparison sites vs cashrewards/shopback.

    • +1

They are dodgy for sure but I weirdly get better rates when going through cash rewards for some specific hotels even with the cashback.

    • +1

no different from other comparison sites as well as airline fares…

    • +2

Still a lot cheaper than booking.com

    • Showed the same price whether I went directly or via cashrewards. Furthermore, they had the lowest price for the hotel I needed compared to all other sites.

  • +2

Had issues with Agoda and claiming Shopback /Cash Rewards.

    • Same. I always have to chase up the Agoda cashback.

  • Lmao.

Checked hotel in Hobart and by the time 13% is off the Agoda rate, it matches what offered by Wotif.com by default

I've noticed agoda automatically applying "coupons" which cannot be removed. These "coupons" give a discount which is less than what you'd get through cashrewards. And cashrewards refuses the cashback because they say you've applied a coupon code, which you haven't. You've just booked a room as per normal and a non-removeable coupon has been applied.

At this moment, I cannot get any cashback through Agoda.

    • it's unfortunate that CR isn't as good as SB. no issues with SB for me tracking through the app and works with any auto coupons as long as you're not adding them yourself.

  • If you pay later, how does cashrewards track it? Does it track it later?

    • it still tracks at the price

  • +2

does it work for pay at hotel?

  • Pretty much every decently priced room has the pivilege of automatically having a $3 coupon pre-applied and impossible to remove rendering us ineligible for cashback. Isn't that bait advertising?

  • +3

I found a hotel for a good price via Tripadvisor to Agoda. Then clicked the cashback link in Google Chrome. Price went up $30 per night.

  • Compared a hotel on agoda with expedia. Agoda was more expensive.

  • Always check around first. Agoda still had best price for me, even compared to aggregators like tripadvisor, hotelsocombined. They have ongoing 5% off coupon offer but this 13% beats that by a long way. saved $105. thanks OP.

  • I can't even get a booking to go through - "Due to an unforeseen technical error, your booking was not confirmed."

The cynic in me says Agoda might be blocking transactions made after clicking through CR.

  • The actual amount of cashback can be less than 13% as they don't include taxes.
