Indeed a good deal….but Mumbai would have been better 😊

    • You can catch a cheap SpiceJet flight from Chennai.

    • -4

The reviews of Mumbai are even worse than Chennai.

      • +1

lol a city isn't a new appliance brother, i'd advise visiting new places for yourself before writing them off based on online reviews.

        • “Brother” 🤔🤭🤫

What load of bullshit. "Naked, starving children burning trash for heat outside the walled, armed gates of Fortune 500 companies, hotels, & government buildings." Chennai is hot as (profanity) throughout the year, nobody is burning anything for heat there for sure.
Like everywhere else, India has its charms and quirks. This author's bullshit meter is so high. Let's just say their imagination and exaggeration skills are top-notch.

Chennai is probably one of the safer metro cities in India compared to Delhi/Mumbai. A lot more cultural attractions and some of the best medical facilities in the world not to mention the burgeoning IT sector.

      • Just looked up the usual temperatures of this city around the year on weather data, and you seem to be right. The humidity seems quite high too. Hell would have to freeze over if someone is burning trash at this place for "warmth".

      • -5

India and safe don't go in the same sentence. I mean a country where people have been burnt for eating meat in the past cannot be considered safe in no matter which way you look at it.

        Thanks but no thanks.

Um, so Australia is crime-free? There are good and bad sides to every place including Australia where there are enough unreasonable acts of crime that occur. The difference being the scale due to the density of population.

Sure stereotype a country and live in your bubble, let the rest of the world be brave to step out of comfort zones. Ignorance is bliss.

          • -2

@peanut48: Did you just compare India's crime rate to Australia? Champ you need to do some googling up. As someone who IS informed, I can tell you the difference is incomparable.

I've been India and the sub-continent and a terrible experience at best.

I've been to chennai many times and i have never seen or experienced any one of your stories. It was hot definitely but always very nice and good helping people all around the place.

    • +7

LOL I don't know why you would repost someone else's experience. He also admits to assaulting a local. The taxi thing is kind of true, but you always have the option of government taxis or sedans that use the meter or Didi (basically uber). Just take a photo of the taxi driver's license and number at the front of the vehicle to avoid problems. You will still probably be overcharged, but this is still much less than oz fares. 600 rupees or $12 should be enough for a 60 min auto fare across Chennai in peak traffic. I also know a tour company driver that charged us approximately $40 for the entire day of driving, and this was also to areas outside Chennai like Mahabalipurram. If you stick to the good areas you should be ok.

if you are going to judge someone/something/somewhere based on a random comment on the internet and make a decision on it, I guess we are fair to Neg you to hell exactly on the same front (don't care if you are the messenger) based on the last statement of your previous comment "I think I’ll give it a miss. Is there actually anywhere in India worth visiting?"

Sometimes it might be worthwhile to get your head out of hole and see with your eyes wide open!

        Peace out :)

      • You sir are not a messenger, more like a low IQ liar.

    • Absolutely unqualified garbage, not Chennai but the pig swill you've managed to produce here.

    • Clearly you're only looking for material that confirms your existing biases. Please continue thinking this is the reality in India, they could do with fewer tourists like you

I could pull a similar review of Bali from the net….yet everyone visits it like it's the holy land.

From reddit : I have been in chennai for most of my adult life I can honestly say OP is lying for karma. Dead baby on the road? Are you (profanity) kidding me? You fought off a group of people with Iron rods with a knife and a piece of wood? Aside from generalising a slum area as being like the whole city, there seems to be problems with the truth in this piece.

  • Thanks OP. Good deals for people who want to travel in Feb. It is a good time to travel in the northern hemisphere as it is not summer yet

  • Good deal for Chennai just $489, thanks OP.

  • I could make Changi Airport my tourist destination

  • Do I get any good deals to Hyderabad From Melbourne between Jan-Feb 2020?

  • Hi,

Any flight deals for Bangalore in January.

    Thanks,

    Bhasi

I'm an Indian who was brought up in Chennai for 24 years before moving to Sydney. I can say that what has been written as a review above is absolutely crap. Chennai is one of the most safest cities in India. I understand about the taxis stuff but you can always get an Uber which is much more reliable. We locals use the same there. The IT sector has been booming from the last 15 so years.

If anyone want any references on where to go, how to go, reviews, places to visit, anything related to Chennai - I'm happy to help. I'm from Gujarat but I like Chennai more than any city in Gujarat.

    • ModiWar means?

you want to know the meaning of my username?

          If you can

          • +1

@Okayy: Modi is my Surname. I used to play a lot of war games and hence it ended up being ModiWar… Nothing specific…

  • Great deal. Thanks for sharing OP.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

"Luggage and meals are extra with Scoot." where do I find more details on price for luggage and meals?

  • This deal make me freeze little bit to think. Where is chennai? 😂

    • +1

It's the old "Madras". Southern India. Very busy, very crowded (like most of India) but some stunning history in terms of temples, and amazing architecture there.

      • +1

Don't forget the cheap accommodation and the wonderful cuisine!

    • -4

Madras. In a wonderful place called India, so I’m told.

  • P.S. The scammers at Scoot have finally removed their exorbitant booking fees (charged per leg!) world-wide for all payment types.
