Any External Portable 1TB SSD Deals?

I am looking for an portable USB-powered external SSD like the Samsung T5.

Previously there have been several sales on the T5, but for the last month it seems to have not dipped below 269.

Any suggestions for alternatives or other places to look welcome.

I've had limited success with these - they all seem to have performance/heat issues in the various enclosures I've bought off eBay. IMO just wait for a good deal on the T5 or one of the various other portable SSDs on here. If you were willing to go smaller, I'm sure there'll be a bunch of 512gb ones coming up from people selling them after the Seagate promotion.

        • I have had the same experience across many different USB enclosures and different SSDs. I think they need a heatsink on that USB controller chip cause mine all seem to have issues with reliability.

@pinchies: Yep. They'll work, run CDM fine too, but will struggle when you need to do something more substantial like backing up/migrating a system! Agreed it's probably a heat issue since in all my cases the enclosure becomes quite warm. As a Steam drive though I think they might work fine.

eBay "M.2 Enclosure" and then check out some SSD deals, for example this Lexar 1TB for $129.60.

  • Actually, is there anything wrong with the Toshiba X10?

    Currently $159 at OfficeWorks.

    • The Transfer speeds aren't great with those but it'll definitely do the job.

      I installed a 2TB QVO SSD into a Ineo 2.5" Shockproof enclosure
and it's been working fine for me for the past 3/4 months.

      • Got the X10, thanks.

Speed is not a priority, rather space, portability and robustness, and I don’t have the time, interest, tools or expertise to build anything.

  • Does it have to be 1tb?
I have a 500gb Samsung T5 never used that I can get a good deal on.
Edit: I notice OP has already ordered an SSD so nevermind.

  • Seen the 1TB @ $198 in HN?
