Withings Body Cardio Weight Scale $109.99 @ Costco (Membership Required)

60

I've got an older Withings Body Scale, and it's great. Considering this is selling for ~250% of this price at JB and Hardly (and RRP is $319.95), this is a steal for anyone in the market for quality smart scales.

For those unfamiliar, these scales measure several things and sync with your withings app/account so you can keep track of your numbers over time, via graphs. The Withings app is fine on its own, or the data can be exported to other accounts, eg. your Fitbit app.

From Withings website:

- Heart health: Indication of your cardiovascular health via standing heart rate

- Body composition (see also below): Weight (kg, lb, st), weight trends, body fat & water percentage, muscle & bone mass

- Seamless Wi-Fi sync: Automatic data sync via Wi-Fi to the free Health Mate app (iOS & Android)

- Multi-user friendly: Recognizes and tracks up to 8 users independently

- Tailored to you: Opt into Pregnancy Tracker, use the baby weighing feature, or enable Athlete Mode to meet your specific needs

- Life-friendly features: Ultra-thin design, rechargeable battery, localized weather forecast & previous day's steps

'Body Composition' breakdown:
Weight
Highly-precise measurements accurate to .2 pounds
Fat mass
Fat mass percentage can help anyone understand overall health
Muscle mass
So you can target your efforts to lose fat or get stronger
Water
Clues you into hydration and retention.
Bone mass
To get a full picture of your body

Anyone know if this has the pulse wave velocity feature enabled? As far as I can see that is the main reason for its hefty price, but that feature was removed last year via a software update, and from what I can see has only been reintroduced in Europe so far.

    • Would like to know that too.

  • How does it measure your fat, muscle, water and bone mass?

    • Magic. ;-)

But basically it estimates it based on your height, weight, age and no doubt by checking conductivity between your feet. Frankly all of that like BMI may be interesting, but I wouldn't pay too much attention to it. Automatically recording your weight over time is great though.

      • Added info re. the other features that are listed more prominently on the US site.

  • Apart from bluetooth instead of wifi, and no doubt a different app, why should I pay $80 more for this compared to the kmart version?

    • this has fat shaming feature to motivate you to loose weight.

    • …because you don't have to think about it. You just check your weight, and it's automatically saved to your online account - no synching with mobile required. I have my weight tracked for the past six years now showing me (slowly) going from over to normal weight without insane dieting - just some walking and eating less rubbish.

      • Withings have been around for a while, and they have a quality app.
      • I've had my (previous model) Withings scale for around 7 years now, hasn't skipped a beat. I think I've changed the AAA batteries twice in that time.
      • The data is synced via wifi, you don't have to have your phone open and open the app etc. Just step on the scales for ~5 seconds while it takes its readings, then go about your day.
      • the data can be auto-synced with other services. My Withings scale syncs all recordings with my Fitbit account, it's seamless.

If you're simply after some scales for occasional use, the Kmart one may be OK - depending on the quality and associated app and user experience. But these Withings scales have a lot more features and I suspect a much nicer overall experience.

  • Better than renpho? Price difference worth it?
