  • Existing cardholders qualify?

I just asked in live chat:

Yes. As long as the current account is active more than 9 months and no limit increase request within 6 months.

      • Awesome. Cheers

      • Really…? even if we have a Citibank qantas credit card?!

    • I contacted Citibank live chat and asked about the Qantas Bonus points offer for current card holders.

They said that bonus points promotions are only available to new accounts opened and not existing card holders.

edit: Citi told me yes. So long as you meet the usual eligibility (financial) requirements. I initially asked about the Qantas Citi card (where this deal is for Citi rewards, not Qantas points)

      • Are supplementary card holders included in this?

        • +3

          I'm not citibank…….

      • Your edit confuses me - so you can still get it as long as it’s a new account and you already hold existing Citibank credit cards?

  • Do secondary card holders mean you cant re apply for this and get the bonus?

People remember, banks own point schemes are always worse then the airlines. A good example is a $100 coles/woolworths card.

A $100 voucher at QF is 19,000, a Coles $100 at Velocity is 19,000, but the same voucher at citi is 22,300.

The conversion rate is also 2:1 for velocity, so its only about 60,000 velocity points total.

and that 60k is actually 40k for meeting the spend with another 20k after paying a $149 annual fee for the second year.

    • So please translate. What will $120K of bonus points equate to in real dollars?

      • +1

        at 1c per velocity point

$49 fee = $400 in points with $3k spend, then $200 in points for $149 fee and waiting 12 months.

        • it's actually 2.5 points for 1 velocity so

$49 fee = $320 in points with $3k spend, then $160 in points for $149 fee and waiting 12 months.

          Pretty crappy deal.

  • Can I apply for this and get points even though i got Qantas Premier card (Citi issued)

    • Citi told me yes. So long as you meet the usual eligibility (financial) requirements.

Even if you have an existing Qantas Citi Premier card

Just a warning, their customer service is beyond shocking:

    • The only time I had a credit card compromised was my Citibank card, which I hardly use online - likely an insider job
    • They warned me quickly about it being compromised, and the card was disabled. Yet they kept approving fraudulent payments, and I had to phone many times and lodge a claim to avoid having to pay these obviously fraudulent overseas transactions, made days after I blocked the card
    • My wife has been a secondary cardholder since 2013. When I got renewal cards, they wouldn't let her activate until they got a written letter with a certified copy of her ID (as account holder, I never submitted a shred of documentation to get this card - go figure). We kept calling until we got a REP who would simply just activate the card.

Factor in the cost of your time before deciding this is a bargain.

$49 for 32k Velocity points or 100k Qantas points year one with Citi Qantas Signature…

Effectively only 60k for $198 if you opt for the second year. Suggest amending the title as a bit misleading in terms of fee and points value.

    • 5k spend is up there! I guess one could book refundable accommodation!

  • I just got the 5k spend card. FML

  • I think the fee after one year should be around $400/year. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • you're wrong it's $149

    • You have been: CORRECTED.

i find the wording in this post way too convoluted. let's make things simpler:

first year, $3000 spend within 90 days to qualify for 80,000 Citi Rewards points.

2.5 Citi Rewards points = 1 Velocity point
80k Citi Reward points = 32k Velocity points.

after paying the $149 cc fees for 2nd year, additional 40k Citi Rewards (equivalent to 16k Velocity points) will be given.

    seems too much hassle…

    • agree it's not that great of a deal.

Use the referral links for 140k citibank points in the first year, same card, same reduced annual fee in the first year ($49)

      • Don't you mean 100k citibank points in the first year? (80k + 20k referral)

        • Thats a separate offer I believe. I'll pm

  • Make sure you apply via referral link to earn another 20k points!

  • Just a warning, that bank is a mess…..
I've been chasing my points for 4 months now. Didn't get any points for using the card and also still no bonus points. All I get is a lot of conflicting information and marketing calls and emails about cash offers, no QFF at all.

"Around 15 minutes to complete the application"
And about four hours on the phone in total to provide my Qantas details multiple times.
A few hours to get my account name changed to exactly match my Qantas account (with or without space, but that's not a problem for any other bank or card and Qantas works with both).
A few hours to email them, without any result.
Every time they "change" something, I have to wait for the new statement period.
They close cases because points are transferred, but not to me.

Filed a complaint via the Citibank website, nothing….

    • report them to the afca. that'll light a fire under their arse.

      https://www.afca.org.au/

  • over 20% plus interest rate

  • So $200 for 120K points? No different from the Qantas branded ultimate card that also offers 120K points for $200 annual fee.

    • much worse than that

      • From all these threads I'm reading about Citibank it seems a lot of folks are struggling to get their Qantas points

  • This doesn't seem as good as their Qantas points deal.
