  • man i remember when these first came out towards the end of last year.. my friend bought one from mobicity for like $299 :S

    • Tech gear does down in price over time? Riveting.

      • Yes, but the phone was released to the market less than a year ago. That's a pretty significant price drop by anyone's standard in a relatively short period of time. That's for a decent phone as well.

Credit goes to cheap Android market and they give good value for money. Nokia is loosing market share quite fast. I was a hardcore fan of nokia and now moved to android. Nokia were not interested to give premium things like: wifi, gps, good touch screen to normal or mid range phones. whereas Android phones broke the ice and now u can get a phone for 50 dollars with these features.

    +1. And good post OP!

  • Good find, camelgrass. I called Optus Shop (the bricks-and-mortar one) and they told me that it was still selling at $229! It's a great online deal hidden away.

    • Yeah, I went into the local Dick Smith today and it's also $229.

  • Nokia=Fail how they still have the biggest market share, I don't know, in the smartphone sector they will need to move to Android, Android, Android!

10 years ago who would have thought Linux would be the primary OS of most major brand smartphones!

    • Nokia and Microsoft now have a strategic partnership. I wouldn't yet write off the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones combined with the world's largest software company.

    • The reason is, majority of the users, still think mobile to be a mobile only. Also, if anyone buying a second set, they prefer Nokia. Reasons are quite good:
      1. Very Good Battery life.
      2. Good reception ( I used to get full reception in my nokia n73, whereas same sim in HTC had less than 50% reception.
      3. Not that good processing units, but Good hardware to support the mic and speakers.
      4. Very reliable and robust. My kid banged the set so many times and I knew, it will still switch on :)

They are like cisco in mobiles.

    • Not everyone is aware about how Android is better than Nokia phones now. Unless you're into technology, you probably wouldnt know the main difference between Android and Nokia phones, a phone is just a phone to them. When I did mystery shopping, the sales person asked me why an android phone was better and whats the diff… I thought it would be the other way around.

      • a phone is just a phone to them.

Exactly, as long as they can make/receive calls, send SMSs, maybe check their email and occasionally browse the web then I don't think it's going to make any difference to them whether the phone is a Nokia, Android, iPhone, Blackberry, or whatever. They will all perform these tasks comfortably.

Not everybody needs blazingly fast performance, access to 1000s of apps, or wants to root their phone, load custom ROMs, customise their phone, etc. Reliability, good hardware and decent battery life is more important to them.
