    Need licensed plumber or DIY?

    • DIY if you're replacing an exisiting kitchen sink tap. Not DIY if you need to run new water lines to said sink.

      • +1

For DIY, what other tools and supplies would you need? Figuring out if I should just suck it up and pay for a plumber

        • I'm no plumber but spanner and wrench should do it

  • DIY

  • Did anyone find a decent review on this? I couldn't find any real information on it.

    • +1

Its a tap. Your turn it in and water comes out. Works as expected.

Never heard of Dorf? It's well known tapware brand.

      "Ford? Never heard of it"

Bought one last night, everywhere else is over $300.

    Thifthty is over $400

    10years parts warranty. It’s a decent deal

  • its not bad for this price ! you wouldn't buy one at its rrp ! went to see it at harvey norman today the goose neck seems to be loose on this model ! not sure if the one on display was tightened properly or not !

    • +5

ok ! thanks ! good to know !

    • Somebody complained about the same thing in the review for a different colour- https://www.harveynorman.com.au/dorf-vixen-pull-down-kitchen…

"However, the spout, where it swings left to right is rather flimsy. I didn't expect it to be so as the tap looks solid."

Is that the same problem you found?

      • yes that is exactly what i mean ! the goose neck is is not tight / solid !

    • +1

I don't think they install the retracting mechanism on demos.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I'll try n get Bunning to price beat!

    • Please leave a feed back if bunnings do it for you. I prefer Chrome colour there :)

      • I went but failed as they said its not an exact same colour. Bought from HN instead though I much prefer the chrome colour too.

  • Had considered this one for a replacement and then I saw it - it's huge! Definitely more suitable for a larger space where having a very noticeable spout is something you like. Aside from that, it functions well and the nozzle disconnects to pull down an internal hose.

  • +1

I've got a silver one. Decent price for this. I don't understand the modern trend for black - but I'm probably getting old.

Whilst the spout feels flimsy, I haven't had any issues with it in the year I've had it. It swings smoothly. The tap itself has a nice closing mechanism.

Mine sat a little higher than I'm used to on the sink, which lead to a bit of splashing. I had to turn down the pressure a little at the mini stop below.

The retractable part I think is similar to most other taps. It's a black braided plastic-ish hose. There is a weight below the sink to get it to retract. You need a bit of room for this to work.

Note this tap (and I think most others) specifies a recommended pressure rating, or the warranty will be void. You might want to check your mains pressure. Mine was twice the recommended pressure, which may lead to increased risk of flexi-hoses breaking. If you are OCD like me, consider getting a mains pressure limiter (mine was about $300 fitted) so the whole house is protected.

    • Wouldn't you just turn the tap down at the mains?
      Make it less pressured?

      • +1

I'm no plumber, but I guess if you've got a standard tap at the mains it could work.

Mine is only a quarter turn between off and full bore on, so it wouldn't really work.

      • No. Static pressure (ie. pressure when there is no movement of water like when all your taps are off) cannot be lowered by turning down the mains.

    • Does the main stem twist left and right?

      • We have the acrual flick mixer in the middle, so yes

  • I'm pretty sure I did not need this at all and it won't match with a stainless steel trough but oh well, considering these things cost $400+ normally

    • Time to look for a deal on a black sink.

  • does it go with a kitchen sink ? i bought a black sink for the kitchen from the goodguys last sale and need a black tap.not sure if this would fit in the kitchen.any advice please

For anyone who want to go cheaper but want that general style/function of tap here are the IKEA goose neck pull out sprayer mixers:
    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40341648/ ($109)

https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/60341874/ ($149, not a fan of the handle)

We went with the flatter cheapie "veggie sprayer version" as the tall goose neck style wouldn't really suit our kitchen.

Ofcourse doesn't have the Dorf brand, but they still have a 10yr warranty on it at least, and our current one hasn't had failed hoses or anything like that yet after over a year (touchwood).

This is a very good price!

I've got this exact tap. Love it.
The silver bit at the front of the neck is the part that comes out (if you're not sure where the disconnect occurs).
A heavy duty black braided hose is connected to the silver bit, and there's a small weight installed under the bench that assists in it's retraction back into the goose neck when no longer needed.

We built nearly 3 years ago and I paid $350 for this… and it was worth it even at that price.
We've got a large single basin black tub kitchen sink and this tap comes up nice and high for good clearance under neath.

Only note I'd make is consider which side you want the mixer.
We got it installed with the flipper on the right side (as it is in the picture).
Cold is 'back' in this position, and to turn on the tap you need to use your right hand.

It's nothing really in the grand scheme of things, but I'd suggest mounting it in reverse- where flipper is on left side, requires the left hand to operate, and has cold position 'forwards'.

I'm half tempted to buy this one as a spare just in case they don't make them in 5 years.

And I'm sorry to dufflover above me, but the ikea ones are NOTHING like the Dorf mixers. Much cheaper/lighter feel. The Dorf one is a steal at this price.

    • Why can't you rotate the base of the tap so the mixer is facing you? Then hot will be left and cold will be right…

      • Because it protrudes into the sink area (mixer extends out quite a bit). It's personal preference though…. if that's the way you like your mixer no worries, just giving people food for thought.

Was able to price beat at bunnings for an extra 10% off! Matched against this: https://www.bunnings.com.au/dorf-vixen-black-retractable-sin…

    • How good!

    • You got lucky. Bunnings dont stock the black nickle and the model number differs from the Black Chrome so they wouldnt do it for me.

      • Ahh dang, must have snuck it in before the manager had his coffee

Bunnings Price beat for $177.30 chrome model. https://www.bunnings.com.au/dorf-chrome-vixen-retractable-si…

The staff said usually they wont price beat the special price or clearance. but manager did it for me :)

I called Bunnings they said it was made in China :(

    • and.. then…? The iphone and other quality products. (PS. im not an iphone fan.)

      • -1

QC may not be as tight. Apple is proverbially breathing down Foxconn's neck.

You can make good products in China but only with constant external supervision.

    • +2

I hope you don't look at the labels of nearly everything in your house… you might be disappointed.

      • For critical items it's worth scrutinizing the country of origin. There's balance to be achieved somewhere. Otherwise I'd be buying chinese malk powder.

    • Sounds like they were just trying to avoid price matching. It doesn't state HN tap is made in China in their website.
It's still the same brand and description.

  • good price for this type of tapware, and 20 years warranty.

  • Price is back to normal again
