How much does the battery cost? Since it don’t come with it.. will determine if this deal Is a dud our not

    • +10

Just wait for a deal on batteries. Or a battery bundled with something else you want. It is the ozbargain way.

    • The answer needs a time in history. Meanwhile hook it up to your car…

  • +3

    Wow this is very cheap.

I have this and it's ok for grass and that's about it. It's a single blade only though so it doesn't cut the best.

For the price is worth getting

    • -5

So no good for cutting down trees?

  • +14

This one uses the plastic blades which are complete garbage. They fall off all the time, just buy a decent snipper and save the headache of hitting more than 3 blades of grass at a time.

    • +9

I never had a blade fall off before and I've used this one and the grey version of the ozito snipper for about 3 years now

      • +3

Yea same here no issues. Some people must be using this on a farm

    • +5

I’ve converted the head on mine to a line trimmer and it actually works really well. Much more controlled then a heavier petrol trimmer and enough power to make nice crisp edges.

      • Hey Gatto, I tried what you suggested in another post and bought the hard wired version for conversion but the head attachment was completely different? Ended up taking it back. Do you know precisely what model you used to convert?

        • +1

Unfortunately I don’t have the exact model number that I scavenged the line trimmer head from but it was an ozito one. If somebody will enlighten me on how to post pictures on this forum I’d happily show you how I assembled it. It all just bolted together with no modification necessary except to the protective shroud (which I barely use anyway). I actually considered buying a heap of these, doing the conversion then selling them on gumtree / ebay.

      • +1

What do u need to get to convert it? I have one of these… they aren’t fantastic as they are. I want it to do lawn edging and it’s rubbish for that!

        • +1

Yeah, the plastic blades are next to useless. I stole a head from an ozito line trimmer and it just bolted onto the motor of the 18v line trimmer. I’m going to work out how to post some pics for you guys.

      • Can you please elaborate how you converted the head to a line trimmer?

        • +1

Sorry all for the late reply. Firstly a huge thank you to the mod RichardL for showing me how to upload pictures.

          1) Basically the 18v grass trimmer had a single bolt that goes through the centre of the plastic disc that connects directly to the 18v motor. I can’t remember for certain but I believe this was reverse threaded (ie left to tighten, right to loosen).

          2) the line trimmer head that I scavenged had a orange cap underneath the line spool compartment. You need to remove this using an extremely small flat head screw driver (you can see I damaged mine slightly trying to remove it in picture #3)

          3) use the original bolt for the 18v motor and put it through the new line trimmer head. (again I did this over a year ago but I believe I used a washer to space the head away from the body of the trimmer as there was minimal clearance).

          4) place the orange cap back over the 18v bolt (to protect the bolt from moisture / dirt.

          5) reassemble the line spool as you would have on the original line trimmer and your good to go. Took me all of 15 minutes.

      • +1 would like more info!

  • From $35 for a 2ah, but You can still get 2x4ah pack at some stores for $79.

  • These are better than the price would suggest for normal jobs.

  • +5

Great price. Thanks OP. Username also matches discount.

  • Hard plastic blades!?
How does this compare to a "whipper snipper"? I had an 18V ryobi one of those, and was not impressed.

ideal for trimming lawn edges and grass around trees and shrubs

I use glyphosate for that. Cannot see how this is easier. How often are you willing to go back?

    • +5

it's junk . If you need to snip along a super six fence , give it a wide berth .

Edit : I got it in the blower edger pack . It was worth it for the blower …

    • +1

This sort of trimmer imo is only okay for very light work-like you have a patch of grass front and rear of a townhouse.

We're on an acre block and like yourself use glyphosate around the land borders. I've come from a 2 stroke Shindaiwa which I had since the last century, but became intrigued by the newer battery operated snippers. After considerable research I ended buying a De Walt with 5amh battery for $270 delivered. What I liked about this model is it's a proper straight shaft snipper with loadable cord, only 20mm, but I like the finer cord for it's cuttability versus whackability and double cutting strands as well. In use it works well, not as powerful as a 2 stroke and the battery only lasted 20 mins on the intial run out, but then realised it was 2 speed and I was using the fast speed. But no petrol mixing, no pulling and no fumes.

  • +1

We have weeds that destroy the plastic blades on this. I'd like something more durable.

  • Anyone has this and can comment if this is good enough as an edger? We don't have a large lawn so would prefer not to buy an ozito edger which cost $149. Will this one work well as an edger?

    • +5

I have one of these and use it as an edger on a small property. As others have mentioned, the plastic blades are shocking. It does the job, but to do perhaps 30-40m of edging I'll go through 3-4 blades on average. I edged earlier today and was on my 4th blade by the end. A pack of 50 blades is around $20 from memory.

      • Thanks mate.

    • +1

gutless and useless, the small mower they have isn't too bad.

    • +3

I got one, and then I picked up a second one later cos it was cheap.

The first time I used it, I went through the few blades I had and only got half way through the edges in one yard. The issue is they clip on, and that part breaks if you are too close to a fence or concrete edge, which is just about everywhere. The result is that after a few goes you become a lot more careful, and maybe at beat you get through the yard only losing 3 or 4 blades.

Either way, I picked up the Aldi one recently as its similar but uses line. Even though it's not a bump feed (you have to turn it over and press a button) I found it much quicker to use than the Ozito model, was able to work twice as fast at least. As such this one is hard to recommend, but if your years is real small, and you already are in the Ozito ecosystem, then I could see it being useful. Aldis was 79 when released, but you can pick them up discounted for less

      • Thanks mate. Am going to give this one a miss.

  • Cheap. Crap. No go according to users on here.

    • Got one for $3 from the dump. Best value for money trimmer I ever had. Never used anything else since. Perfect on couch grass in small yard. Tropical runners and guinea staff one wants a metal blade! Burned thru a dozen or so of petrol trimmers in the past had any sort of metal knife including a disc with a chain around where trees up to 10 cm just fall over! Horses for courses..

  • +6

I've got one of these, I do the lawn edges with it. I break 2-3 blades every time and it struggles with thick stalked weeds. It's a bit of a kids toy to be honest. Best thing i can think of is that if you hit your shoe with it you have nothing to worry about because it's weak as piss.

  • +2

I would've normally impulse bought it by now despite not even having really a lawn or things to edge, but the feedback on these comments is pretty damning. I'll save my pennies this time around …

Edit: still showing as $79 for me anyway

  • +3

    OPs username checks out

  • +2

I really wish they would bring out the line trimmer in a skin pack. I have enough batteries and this snipper here is terrible against our colorbond fence.

  • Title says NSW but I was able to purchase one through click and collect at a Melbourne store. Wonder whether they'll cancel

    • Also showing as $29 in the Qld stores I looked at.
I got one of these on this deal a couple of years ago, and it has served me well. Just go gentle around hard objects and it is fine. I only have a couple of small areas of grass, so use this instead of getting the lawnmower out, and the battery does the trimming and blowing clean-up. Tempted to get a spare for when it inevitably dies.

  • +1

Looks like you can get packs of 100 blades for less than $12.00 on eBay. May take a look at tomorrow. Already got a few batteries.

    • I managed 5 packs for 5.50, but they are shorter than the bunnings ones by about 20%. Not a huge issue but means that the guard can't be used effectively as you then can't get close enough with it in position

    • Like any printer, take the "giveaway" from the big stores and get supplies online.

  • -7

Heed my warning. If you buy this you will probably regret it and wish you just bought a corded one. So much easier not having to worry about charging batteries and battery memory turning to crap over time.

  • +1

That is very cheap. I use one and it's pretty lightweight. My only gripe is the blades.

  • I got this, plus a blower and battery/charger etc for $25 from memory (package deal).

The whipper snipper is pretty shit, for free standing grass maybe, but for fence line, edges etc it's crap. The blades either wear out in a few seconds or they snap.

  • The blades are awful so I tried the ones on ebay and they were even worse. What I do now is just use normal trimmer line. I cut the line in about 20cm segments, fold them in half and then push it through the little hole in the trimmer head. I can now do the front and backyard with about 2 line segments.

  • +1

Worthwhile visiting your local Bunnings if not too much trouble. They seem to be having a bit of a clear out of some of the Ozito range. I got a pole saw with 2amp battery for $50 and saw a ozito vacuum with 3 amp battery for $79 at 2 different Bunnings in Bendigo Victoria.

    • My regular stores never have any clearances on their Ozito deals or anything in the gardening section :(

  • I've noticed it works well on thicker buffalo grass but not on the thinner grass. Also they seem to have changed the blades recently, and they don't snap off like they used to..

  • I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to snipping but i have this model and smash through the blades quick.

  • For trimming it's ok, for edges not so good.

  • Just bought one, if it can trim the grass in our hard to reach side passage I'll be happy.

    Fingers crossed!

Edit: I've oredered for C&C in Mill Park in Vic.

This trimmer is super sh1thouse deluxe.

Anyone in Brisbane wants one? I'll sell ya one for $10 bucks.

  • I have a 2 stroke no brand line trimmer for over 15 years and it has been leaking petrol for the past 3-4 years. Have been looking at a replacement but with so many choices 2/4 stroke corded/cordless brushed/brushless, anyone can recommend a reliable affordable trimmer for a small lawn mainly cutting off grass on the fence edge?

  • $35 for battery and $29 for a charger. Doesn't make sense. Best is to buy this and wait for a deal. And if a deal doesn't come up, RETURN I guess?

  • +2

Just picked up the trimmer from my local Chadstone store. The price was still $79, however when I showed the online price to a staff member, he was able to confirm the reduced price showing in the system.

Went home and used it, ran thru about 4 of the plastic blades before I could trim a square meter off grass. Replaced the blade with line and the performance was much better. At least worth the $29 - would never had spend anything above that

    • +1

I have same problem with blades. How do you replace it with line?

    • I’m interested in how to do that too.

  • +1

Bought one in Melbourne. the tag was $79 but it scanned as $29. Thanks OP.

  • will buy one

  • Can anyone point me to the battery and charger for this on the bunnings website please? Can't seem to find both together?

  • Bought one, thanks OP. From Northland in Melbourne, ticketed at $29.

Tried it out, seems pretty good for light work, if you don't expect it to work like a $150 model.

I already had a 4Ah battery I got half price, and it lasted about an hour, maybe two. In that time I only changed blades twice, after getting too close to a metal fence, so the blades last quite well.

I've had an Ozito trimmer before but was not one of the X-Change line. The old one had two blades. This one had only one blade. I reckon it's not quite as good as the old one, but still a ripper deal for $29, especially with 5 year warranty and 10 blades.
