Damn this is a great deal.

I bought the grey ozito trimmer kit recently for $89 alone…
Biggest regret of my life… Wish I had Hung out for this deal

    • Is the Ozito grass trimmer any good?

      • +2

        Yes.

Unexpectedly powerful for an 18v cordless trimmer. I'm assuming the red version is as good as the grey one I have.

Plastic blades are actually pretty effective and durable

        • +19

Shame there was a problem with it and you had to return it and get this kit and a $10 refund.

          A damn shame…

        • +1

          @xev:

Haha yes I though about that damn shame that my trimmer just blew up

        • +2

@edrift: For $10 you can get a pack of 20 blades as well

        • @edrift: Who would of thought that a wire could became lose inside and stop it working.

        • Are the blades any good? I had one a few years back and would not buy one again. Total rubbish. Could be a different model though, it was a corded grey one, but yeah the blades were gone after a couple of runs around the yard.

        • @decr:

Only ever used this type of blade trimmer and it's been fine. But no idea how long the line trimmers last

        • @xev: Cheaper than Gillette Fusion Proglide. lol

        • @edrift: OK thanks, ordered one anyway so see how it goes.

    • In the same boat. I bought it yesterday + bought the $20 blower from the other deal. This is definitely better value. What are the chances of Bunnings accepting a return? I used the trimmer yesterday.

      • +2

Did you buy the red or grey one?
If red, then go buy this deal then return the new one with old receipt (assuming you have all the packaging still)

        • Bought the grey one. Would've definitely tried your tip if it was the red one! Spewing!

Ah well at ozbargain you win some you lose some!

      • I bought the $20 blower too, would prefer cordless. I haven’t opened mine yet so should be ok to exchange?

        • +1

of course - just return it. If you want to be 100% have your partner buy the new one rather than you but there is really no need to even do that

        • +2

If it hasn't been used there is no problem returning, if it has been used then there has to have been a problem with it, any problem ;)

        • Just tell them you got confused and bought the corded one, but thought you were buying the cordless one…

Maybe twirl your hair and bat your eyelids at them. And wear something nice.

        • You don't need to say/do anything. Just take it back and replace. Bunnings don't give a cr*p.

    • +3

Lol . If thats your "biggest regret" in life, then your doing incredibly well. What an awesome life :)

  • This is so cheap. Don’t need it as I have a Ryobi 18v blower, a hitachi 18v trimmer, Petrol trimmer and a 240v trimmer. But I bought the ozito pole saw from a while ago, so I really should buy this shouldn’t I?

    • +2

Well 3 amp batteries cost $59 .. you work it out 😀

    • Why do you have three trimmers? :o

      • Well long story, but a long time ago I bought a 240v one, then there was a petrol powered one on special so I bought that one, then I bought a Hitachi 18v drill driver kit from Masters, then there was a special on a Hitachi 18v cordless trimmer, then there was a low price on a Ozito pole trimmer, then I saw this special… I may have a problem.

  • I heard that the blower is not as powerful compare to the corded ones?

    • I've got a Ryobi which would be fairly similar. Not as powerful as my 240v ozito blower/vac

  • +3

I have both of these, bought the line trimmer for $79 a while back and the blower and hedge trimmer combo for $199.

The line trimmer is OK, but the blades tend to fly off as soon as you get to close to concrete or any fixed structure. I use about 2-3 blades each time (1 is properly worn down and the other 2 have flown off into oblivion). Battery life is OK, it lasts long enough for me to get around the edges of my lawn (about 30-40 mins).

The blower is pretty good for what it is, it's not very powerful, but moves around the dry leaves and grass clippings easily - battery lasts quite a while on the blower too.

If you had a smallish lawn these would be good, especially at that price.

    • Just a heads up that this was not my experience today when using the kit from this deal. Battery lasted at least 90 minutes of continuous use, still has charge in it but I finished what I was doing first. It was my first time using a trimmer and the blade collided with large rocks a number of times but stayed on despite making a "nrrrrrrrr" noise in protest. It only flew off once when I stuck it deep into an area I couldn't easily access. The first blade still has some life to it despite the rough treatment I gave it.

I wouldn't describe the back yard as smallish, but I would describe the front one as being that. Used it on both in high 20's temperature heat and the unit never felt like it was close to overheating.

      • I just used it for another hour (different house) before the battery finally gave in. Still using that first blade

  • +12

I bought this kit a couple of months ago but found the blower lacking in power unless it's held very close to the ground, and the trimmer with the plastic blades was only good for very light grass - anything thicker or denser and the blade just popped off and it was a PITA to use…ended up returning and getting the Ryobi equivalents instead - although both these and the Ryobi are marked 18V the Ryobi items' performance is far better (and less hassle) on both machines. Just my two cents - price is not always everything, and the cheapest is not always the best value - that was the case for me with these items. If you have a very small/low maintenance garden these might do you, but if you have even a medium amount of leaves to blow or grass/weeds to trim I wouldn't recommend this kit (even though the price is indeed very good).

    • Conflicted about getting this. A trimmer would be handy but I already have the Ryobi blower and couple of Ozito batts already from the 4Ah deal previously.

I think I'll pass on this then after your comment as maybe better putting that money into something one a Ryobi one instead. I'm not really bothered buying a kit and selling off bits.

    • Which Ryobi model line trimmer would you suggest I purchase for my nature strip? Ta

      • I have this kit with trimmer and blower for $199: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-blower-line-trimme… and am quite happy with it for general garden maintenance (I mow with a mower but use the trimmer to clean up around trees/fence lines and lawn edges, then blow with the blower to clean up, plus use the blower to clean the driveway of fallen leaves).

You can get just the line trimmer (I think it's the same one, although it says 2.5Ah instead of 4.0Ah in the kit - not sure what that means/what the difference is, but I think it's the same trimmer with a slightly lower powered battery) for $149 (including a battery): https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-2-5ah-line-trimmer…, or if you already have a compatible battery the skin only line trimmer is $105: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-305mm-cut-cordless….

I don't think these go on sale very often (if at all) but I've found them to be good value for money at the regular price since they do the job and are easy to use.

      • I have the same line trimmer from Ryobi that Mr Buggles shared. It's superb. Like they said, I don't think they're likely to go on sale, but it's a good price for what you get.

Takes standard line, does a good job. The battery I have with mine lasts a fair while. I used it for… I want to say, about an hour, today, and it still has a fair bit of juice left. Takes a long time to charge though, best to leave it on overnight if you're planning on using it the next day.

There is a noticeable drop in power when it is lower on charge too. The trimmer itself is solid as, the mechanism is great, it's autofeeding - saves you bashing it on the ground to feed new line out, like some models.

      • I've got the 18v Ryobi and love it. I've been through 3 other battery ones.
        * A cheap brand from Bunnings, it didn't last. (10+ years ago)

        • An older Ryobi 18v, it was better but only lasted a few years before bits start falling off. 8 or so years ago.

        • I've had the most recent Ryobi for, at guess, 5 years, and it is much better built than the previous model so I thought I'd give them another go since I need the battery. It is still going strong.

One thing is it is powerful enough to do a good job on normal egding work but gentle enough to mow a lawn (not neat but decent) it needs a few charges but it got there.

I did a test with a mate's Ryobi 36v trimmer and didn't like it. Heavy and ripped up my lawn when I tried "mower" test, it had lot more power though (hence harder to mow with) but would be good if you have more serious grass and weeds, overkill for my edges and around pots.

    • +2

This is contrary to the experience I have had. Just bought it today, and tried it out. Trimmer cuts fine, and blower works well. Obvously not as powerful as my chorded units, but quite effective.

Like evrything we all have different experiences, and this is not as powerful as my sons AEG blower, but its $79 vs $199 or more.

Like everything the get what you pay for brigade are out in force on this.

2 friends have bought this bargain after 1 taking my word and the other seeing it in action.

But I would guess now its going to be too late to buy. My local store had 70 at 7:30 am when I bought mine and a third friend says they have sold out.

      Snooze you looze

    • +1

Had ryobi line trimmer. Was a piece of crap. The line always get stuck inside, and all tidied up due to high rotation and was hard to find the cartridge replacement, annoying to use. Will try this Ozito for sure. It's much cheaper and I don't have a big lawn

      • These trimmers are not for large use, its a trimmer, not a slasher. These use a little plastic blade rather than string. Great as I have found for "trimming" if you have heavy growth its not really the thing. Enjoy

  • +1

Can the trimmer be used as an ‘whipper snippet’, and I can just cut the whole lawn?

    • +1

I hope you have a small lawn if you're fine with cutting it with a whipper snipper.

      • +1

He said snippet so it's small.

    • I don't think battery would last for a whole decent sized lawn. I trim around a large garden, about 7 assorted / fruit trees, and a paved path on one battery. As there is juice usually left in the battery after that I sometimes attack a bit of longer lawn so the mower doesn't have to work so hard.

    • Can the trimmer be used as an ‘whipper snippet

Not really. Its more just for trimming the edges after you mow.

Its very weak compared to even the cheapest petrol model.

    • To get an even cut you will need some way of maintaining a consistent distance between the cutting edge and the ground, perhaps with wheels. If only they made such a device.

    • It used to take me about 4 2.5ah recharges to get through about 100M2 of lawn with the Ryobi 18v. Buffalo lawn. It can be done if you take your time and don't expect picture perfect lawn.

  • "Oshito" is rubbish wouldn't bother. Had the blower and it was gutless. Took it back and got a ryobi

  • +8

Normally the 3ah battery costs $59 and the charger is $25, so this is $6 discount with a trimmer and blower thrown in.

If the trimmer and blower don't meet you expectations you can always return them.

Also for anyone that has these batteries I would recommend the USB attachment for $12.98, I use these batteries more as power banks than for power tools.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-usb-pow…

    • Looking at the return policy just now it says you can return open but unused items. It has to have a major fault in order to be used and returned is my understanding

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/returns

    • How much charge can you draw out of this as a power bank? In terms of a iPhone charge?

      • Well it's a 3ah(3000mah) battery, your iPhone battery is.. I don't know. My phone has a very large battery, at 4100mah, so probably enough for a full iPhone charge.

        • Ah yes and then some BC phone is 3.7v and power banks are 5v and this battery is 18v

      • +1

The non-plus series is sub 2Ah and plus series is sub 3Ah. That is at nominal voltage of 3.8V(single cell).
The Ozito battery is 5-cell at 3Ah, assuming 90% DC conversion efficiency, you should be able to clock at least 5 full charges.
If you want the exact number, compare their energy (Wh=Ah*V) instead.

        • I did a small UN-scientific test on these using the Xiaomi LED USB Light and compared the 3Ah Ozito battery Vs the Xiaomi 10,000mah pro2 power bank and they both lasted around 18 hours. from fully charged to no charge.

So there you go, the 3Ah Ozito battery is equal-ish to a 10,000mah power bank

  • Can't speak for this particular brand but last time I cheaped out with a Wesco blower (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/223414), I learnt that Ryobi is the way to go

  • +2

I grabbed the hedger and chainsaw for pretty cheap last time, Might have to get this too. The grey ozito blower goes for $65 on its own.

Also you can buy a $13 USB thing that goes onto the battery so they double as a phone charger too 8)

    • +2

How’s the Ozito cordless hedger? I’m deciding between that and spending more on the Ryobi one.

      • I'm also keen to hear hedger reviews.

        • +1

Love it! …an afternoons work done in minutes.
(using the pole version, - from the chainsaw/hedger kit package deal previously)
I have not used any other brand of hedger, so can't compare, but the Ozito works well, and has a 5 year warranty.

        • I am still using an old Kogan hedger I have had for about 5 years. Value for money and the hedgers are the best of the three (hedger, grass trimmer and blower). We bought a new set recently (Kogan sale) but have had no reason to open the new one.

I cannot manage with heavy tools (3 back ops) but I am very happy with the battery powered garden tools; light and easy to use.

        • +2

          hedger reviews.

          Could go either way.

        • I had a petrol powered hedger, as my wrist got worse, my ability to hold it got worse.

I bought the ozito deal with the chainsaw a couple of months ago as the light weight appealed to me, used it twice, think it's a winner. It's no doubt not as capable as a petrol powered unit, but I honestly didn't find it lacking one bit. Did the job so more easily than my petrol unit.

I'd say give it a go.

        • Bought the combo and went berserk with the hedger the next day, it's been great cutting through branches up about 15mm without a problem.
The chainsaw head works really well also, (7" dead gum branches without a problem), and a lot easier than grabbing a ladder and my Mac chainsaw.

Only thing that I can say bad about it is the clip on the strap broke the next day, (cheap cast clip), would be better if it was a stainless carabiner or similar considering the weight.

Really pleasantly surprised by how well it's performed, so much so I went and grabbed another 4Ah battery and a Ozito cordless drill the next day.

      • I have a normal ryobi one too but got the ozito one since it extends. Only used it once but it did a great job.

edit, I dont recall how much the ryobi one costed (bought 2 years ago) but I haven't been overly impressed with it compared to the aldi one I had borrowed off my folks.

    • Any deals on a hedge trimmer. My $15 corded black and decker from big w is a beast. Neighbour got a brand new bosch, it was rubbish. But a chordless would be handy. Wouldn't last long I would suspect as the chorded version is around 2000 watts.

  • +2

Dont go to ACT belconnen store. These idiots reckon they have 70 in stock but me and three staff can't find them anywhere

After 20 minutes of searching they now say they havent arrived yet and to try again next Thursday and that they can't hold one for me. Total waste of a trip and at least half an hour, if I had called the store in advance they still would have told me they had them…

    • Ok I got them to call through to the Gungahlin store and ask if they had any in physical stock and they said there was 6 and I asked them to hold one for me and they did. Here's hoping it was worth the effort….possibly not from some of the further comments/reviews..I'll leave it unopened for the time being

Part of the reason I was frustrated at Belconnen was the first guy I found I had made it clear to him I was after the specific $79 deal - that's why I needed his help to 1. check the stock level and 2. help me find it if it was in stock as I couldn't see it. Then later in the search he started just talking irrelevant stuff. Firstly I should say I was polite and patient with all the staff today, this is just a quick summary of the exchange. The guy says "so what are you using it for?" "trimming" "because you can't use these to do the whole lawn, that's not what they're made for" "yeah no problem, I just want to trim the edges in an area that's uneven for my mower" "oh what brand is your mower?" "I don't remember…I think it has two words in the name" "right yeah so this trimmer is not heavy duty, it's only meant for little jobs" "gotcha, ok I'll only use it for little jobs"…then he starts trying to show me other trimmers

      • you can just mention specific item number from their website and ask them you want to buy one, it will be easier as they can't then muck you around

        • I did exactly that. Had the product page up on my phone as I looked through the garden tools and promo area myself first, then went to a counter in another area and showed it to a woman who presumably looked up that item number to check the stock level. She was the first to say there were heaps and when I said I couldn't see any she told me to ask for help from a staffer in that area - who I didn't see when I was first looking or else I would have just asked them instead of going to a different area to get the stock level checked.

    • Ugh the car park at the belco store is enought to put me off. The Fyshwick store is worse. Thank God Gungahlin go a good one.

  • Im in 2200, just want the blower, battery, and charger. Does anyone want the trimmer only?

    • +2

      For free?

  • Thanks. Got one from Bunnings Croydon (VIC). They didn't have them in the aisles; they had to get one from the pallet they had out back.

Tested it briefly; it's lighter and obviously much easier to use than the petrol one I had (which also needed a service anyway), and although some people are complaining of the blades popping off, I didn't experience that despite using it in areas where my old one would have snapped the cord.

Not particularly interested in the blower, but happy to have the free bonus.

  • Got one from Bunnings Sale. Also didn't have them on display but had 11 out the back (now 10). The staff couldn't believe how cheap this deal was and said they might pick one up themselves.

  • Just been and bought one myself, they may be set up as a 'middle aisle' display'

    • Correct, the stocking system lists them as being located in 'promo' area, and does not give a specific aisle.

  • At least 10 left in Nunawading store. Doesn't seem to be advertised or promoted yet.

    Picked up one.

  • Still 149 on shelf in keysborough vic but scans at 79. Great price. About 30 left.

  • Just grabbed one in Vermont South (VIC). 5 left on the shelf.

I was only really interested in the Blower, if anyone close by is keen on the Trimmer, Quick Charge and 3Ah Battery I’d be willing to part ways with these. Guess just need to come up with a fair price =)

    • I guess the trimmer and accessories might make a nice gift for someone but you know there are electric Ozito blowers for $20, $39 and $49 by themselves right?

      • I believe the ones you refer to are more so Bench Blowers. I checked those out yesterday and they are tiny looking things!

The same Blower in the bundle is $69 on its own (skin only).

  • Christmas present to me from my wife bought and researched by me.

Altona had a bunch at the front but had the sign saying $149.

    • Also $149 at Lidcombe.

      • Same at Crossroads, plenty stock but sign showing $149. Didn't bother to ask as I had to beg to get the click charger reduced to $7 on the previous deal.

      • I purchased from Lidcombe this morning. Sign says $149, but it's scans for $79 ;)

    • You had to tell your wife you'd like a blow….er?

      • +1

        Usually costs a massage.

    • Always chek the web page, then have that page saved.

Make sure that the internet page is also set for the store you are buying from.

Yesterday I bought the Xmas lights that were mentioned here on Ozbargain, the web said $19, the store sign said $29, I went to the cashier and it rang up as $19. If not I would have got the manager (misleading advertising etc) but that wasnt necessary. The checkout girl said thats a good deal and she inicated she might buy a set as well.

  • Can you use lines in place of the blades?

    • +1

      no it takes blades only

  • Thats a pretty good buy, but check the price of a new battery first as batteries will need replacing before the tools fail! (Not sure how much myself) I had the older model (green/orange) which had a better grass trimmer … 2 blades … than the newer red/grey model … 1 blade. I bought a replacement battery for the older model from Bunnings which cost $76.39; May 2016, as I preferred to use that one. It finally stopped this year, so I am selling the used battery and charger on eBay.

Both models are 18V but the older (green/orange LGT-118) model was much tougher. Used a lot for trimming around paths which can chew up the blades. For regular grass blades do last much longer. I prefer blades any day though than those fiddly wires; only a few seconds to put a new one on, so you just pop a few in your pocket.

Before you buy check out the Kogan / Certa Garden tools, as they have a hedge trimmer included … and these are the best of the three! Blowers are okay but not that powerful really. I recently bought some Certa replacement batteries for the Kogan / Certa set from Kogan for only $29, on sale from $39.

Both Ozito and Kogan /Certa use the same orange/red blades; I buy when on special at Bunnings or Kogan.

Just my opinions. Love using either brand as they are light, easy to manage and not as noisy as the electric or petrol models. I don't extend the guard on the front of the trimmers as I find these just a nuisance. You do get better using them over time!

    • Do the certa tools fit power xchange batteries? They look very similar looking at the online images.

      • I am not sure (can check tomorrow) but dont think my Certa red battery is the same as the Power Xchange one. Don't think it would power up or fit into the lawn mower.

I did order a Kogan-Certa battery once and found I bought one for regular tools but not the garden tools, so it does pay to be sure!

      • Looks like your Certa "Power Exchange" batteries are going for a very good price ($30) now too at Dick Smith's:

        https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/certa-powerplus-18v-lith…

They are slightly different to the other garden tool batteries. The ad above does state the "Power Exchange" batteries are NOT suitable for the garden tool set. The next photo displays the "tools" they are only for.

    • +1

That wouldn't happen to be the ACCLB-118 battery?

My mother in laws battery just died and I'm looking for a new one!

      • Yes.

        https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/OZITO-MODEL-LGT-118-Grass-Trimmer-…

        Photos in the listing.

I believe it was the actual trimmer that died as the battery was just replaced last year. The charger is with it too. The trimmer must have been getting on to about 8 or so years and I use them for 2 properties. The new Ozito only uses 1 blade, but I liked the old one better (2 blades).

        • +1

Ah bummer, if it wasn't listed already I would have offered to buy it! :)
