  • Does the controller need to be working?

    • I've done a trade-in previously where the controller L and R analogue thumbstick was abit off/sticky. That was accepted without any issues.

Is your controller completely dead? I'm not sure if they'll chase you up if they test it and discovers it doesn't work (you need to leave your details during trade-in)

      • Maybe I'll message to confirm. And do I also have to provide a micro usb cable?

      • +12

Just say, it worked when I left it with you.

  • -1

    yes

If only you could trade in your partner for a younger , newer one 😂

    Joking

    • +8

And then your new partner trades you in for a younger newer one, and then you're both young. A perfect plan

    • -3

Mine recently died, but I don't want to lease a new one

    • -2

As other commented, you can trade in a young one for a new young one, for new 2 year Warranty.

I personally will wait for the batches of more beautiful models next year.

They also accept old one, but you have to pay extra. The staff can tell you how much trade-in value depends on the quality.

Make sure you bring your loyalty card for additional trade in value.

      • +1

        bring protection too

    • I'm interested in your old partner I'm not sure how much I'd pay for a 16yo though.

      Plus $25!

    • If only you could trade in your partner for a new PS4 Pro controller.

  • +1

does the analog stick have to have the original rubber grips ? because mines had worn out and are replaced with $1 ebay grips

  • Will they accept wired controller ?

    • from my knowledge and past failed attempts, no they do not accept 3rd party controllers/accessories for trade.

  • +4

Have a controller with a slightly unresponsive thumbstick. Worth a college try.

  • +1

Starts instore on Friday, not tomorrow, I think you can buy other stuff from tomorrow online only.

    • +1

      Thanks, updated.

  • +1

right in time! is it 100% starting tomorrow and not on friday?

    • +1

Online only. 10pm Sydney time. In-store is still Friyay

      • cheers. will head to the store on friday then.

These deals are why I will never buy second hand hardware from EB

  • +1

I traded a few DS4 in about 6 month ago when they were giving $40 trade-in credit ($48 if you were level 4). I traded in a working controller, and the store rep at the time told me that pretty much it just needs to turn on. They did deduct $1 at the time because one of the thumb grips was fairly buggered.

  • OR, trade in your controller, get (presumably) more than $24, and price match JB for $49.

    • i called ebgames broadway nsw earlier today. they quoted me $20 for good and working ds4 v1

      • Dang, seemed like I got $40 for one not too long ago.

  • any boxes needed?

    • +1

nah they don't require any boxes or cables, just the controller

  • +6

This is basically asking for dodgy controllers. Why would anyone trade in a perfectly working controller?

      • +31

        Reread my comment slowly

        • +2

          Lol

    • +3

Trade a boring colour for a cool colour

      • +1

That’s what I’m doing. Black for Sunset Orange.

Current controller is near new and for $25 seems like a decent way to get one I actually want.

    • Many reasons. With the two I've got, the thumb sticks are worn down and the battery doesn't last very long anymore. I reckon that consistutes "normal wear and tear condition".

EB will swap out the thumb sticks and battery for cheap and sell them as 'refurbished'.

  • It's such a shame that Sony doesn't do special edition controllers as cool as Xbox's (IMO)

    • +2

my thoughts too. Xbox does an awesome job at releasing plenty of new Xbox controllers

  • Awesome.

  • +2

Can we trade in an older PS4 controller without the lightbar on the touchpad?

    • +1

I did last time without any issues.

    • +1

They took both my old V1 controllers with the serials missing and the thumb sticks worn. They didn't even try them they just visually inspected them. Thanks OP!

  • Does anyone know yet what the eb Black Friday sales are going to be? Seems like the sales for every major retailer is out except for eb?

    • I asked the high-and-mighty dude at my eb games and was tight lipped. Worth a try.

  • Am I required to trade in the micro usb as well?

    • +1

No. I went to an Eb games store and they gave me back the cable.

  • I have a controller that sometimes has an issue with the triangle button. I mean it doesnt happen all the time. Its an intermittent problem so hard to pin point it.

Do they test it all in store?

    • +2

they don't do any testing. they basically just switch it on, and fiddle with the buttons, joysticks & triggers. if it feels good, then you're sweet

      • Awesome. Im not in the business of giving away a dodgy controller so ill play around with it a little more to make sure its good.

        • As you said, you're not in the business, it's up to them to assess the worthiness of any trade ins. If they accept good luck to them.

    • Just tell them 60% of the time it works every time.

  • sweet!! my current one is well loved, but still working. hopefully they'll take it

  • +2

Wonder if they'll do one for Xbox, got some non-bluetooth ones I'd like to upgrade

    • Same.

  • Awesome, my controller battery is shockingly crappy and I don't even use it very much - it's about a year old (got it with the PS4 Pro trade-in offer from last Black Friday) and it struggles to do like 4-5 hours over two nights. Compared to the Xbox which I completed 1000-pointed Control with on one charge (maybe 30 hours?)…

  • Wonder if I can trade in mine that doesn't charge or power up.

    • +1

now I know to never buy any used controllers from EB.

    • My local one didn't check if mine worked last time. The guy only gave the buttons a quick press then gave me the credit. I gave them a working one though so even if they did check, it would have been accepted.

  • yeh i dont really see the point unless you're trading in busted controllers ….. especially when they are $49 on friday

  • My controllers batteries are pretty weak, good price for a refresh since I doubt I'll be able to resell them anyway and they ll just end up on a box somewhere if I get new ones.

  • +1

Will they accept a controller with some damage to the analogue stick. The rubber is a bit worn off after 5 years..

    • Yes - traded mine in a moment ago and the analog sticks were really worn down.

    • I traded mine in just before and was charged an extra $3 because the rubber of one of the analog sticks were worn.

  • +4

In case any EB World members are wondering, this deal stacks with EB World trade-in discount (based on what level you are). Eg. if you’re level 3 this will only cost you $15 per controller.

    • I am level-2, does the extra trade credit automatic (i think its 5 dollars credit) apply after you let them know you are a member?

  • -1

Does anyone know if this is only today? I forgot to bring my controller to work and won't have time after work…

    • +1

      Ends on the 2nd Dec.

    • -2

You didn't read the post or click on the link, they both clearly say it ends in 2nd Dec.

  • I don't have a eb games account. Do you need to have one to take advantage of this?

    • No

  • Just traded at forest hill 25 + 3 refurbish fee.

  • Is there any EB staff on ozb? Says it ends tomorrow just wondering if it’s the last day and I can actually go in tomorrow? Or was today the last day?

    • It is still running. Must end 2 December being the day inclusive. Otherwise, it might have said before 2 December. Hope that helps

      • Cheers. Completely forgot about it, had the day off as well so could have easily traded in a few old ones. Oh well, picking one up off amazon for when my current new one decided to break

  • I called Bondi Junction and he advised the trade in value was only $21 and that would be used as a credit to the $59 for a new one. Weighing up whether its still worth it, or get one from Amazon
