620

Incredible price for a product released just 3 months ago. JB Hi-Fi still has this listed at $149.

    This is a great mouse.

Thanks for sharing. Also worth noting, the outgoing model (MX Master 2S) is available for $74 at HN and similar price at JB Hi-Fi. In my opinion the latest model looks great but isn’t worth $54 extra.

Thanks. Just ordered the 2s. I just couldn't justify spending an extra $54 for what is effectively minor differences (to me anyway, I'm not really big tech head).

    • I'd been trying to decide between the two, but finally settled on the Master 3. It's going to last me 5+ years and I'd rather have the more ergonomic of the two. The shape and button layout make more sense, and while not a deciding factor, the new magnetic scroll wheel is freakin' awesome - tactile feedback without making a sound.

Is <15% off incredible these days?

    • +2

Yeah I too felt description was a bit over the top!

Haha, 'decent' might be a better choice of words.

    • It is when you get to put that $20 towards macca's for the ride home :)))

They have not discounted this mouse at all since release, I've been watching. But I want the silver one.

  • Amazon to match?

i just bought this today at OW pricematched with an ebay seller, was around $119. i'm going to return it probably though because someone else said in another thread that the fancy new scrolling is junk.

    • I have been using it for a month may be. The scrolling is really good. Initially I configured high DPI which caused pain in my hands. After rectifying it, it was very comfortable. Perhaps you could use it for few days and then decide on it, if return window is not a problem.

      • not sure if OW allows opened returns? i suppose i can try it (i'll maybe go into jb-hifi or somewhere that has it on display and try it there first). cheers.

        • Officeworks do open returns as long as it's in a saleable condition.

  • Looks comfortable. I need something like this but left-handed..

  • I was struggling with a basic mouse with hand pains and upgraded to the MX3 a month ago for $141 at the good guys when asked for a better deal. Also bought a gel wrist pad/ mouse pad from eBay. The combo is really good, I use my old mouse now and again and it's a world of difference. MX3 is a fairly large mouse so you can use different parts of your hand to move it around to spread the load, mag wheel good too. Smashing out hours of solidworks is much more enjoyable.

How much do they cost at a Dedicated Computer Shop like MSY, Umart, Mwave etc.

    • +9

Why don’t you take one for the team and report back.

  • I have a first gen and was burdened with the scroll wheel ratchet issue and after having it 3 years am sick of constantly pulling it apart to repair it.

Is the 3 that much better for the extra cost over the 2S?

    • 3 has a completely different scroll wheel to all prior versions. It's a magnetic system, so can't have the prior issue.
I have had the double click issue on all my MXs, hopefully it's not the same thing with this.

      • You're going to run into the double-click issue no matter which mouse you buy. They all use the same Omron switches which fail after a rated number of clicks.

If you're game, you can try your hand at soldering on some replacement switches, or if you're lazy like me, crack them open and replace the tiny plate spring inside - patience is an absolute requirement for the latter.

EDIT: So yes, it'll be the same with the MX 3.

        • I did pull apart my MX Marathon last week to try and re-bend the plate, didn't go well, didn't have tweezers to help, plus, bent it the wrong way as instructions were munted.

          • @snuke: I bought 100x donor switches from Aliexpress. No need for tweezers - you can replace the plate with a single finger. Problem is that the D2FC-F-7N can sometimes come with a spring which snaps in two the moment you touch it.

Trying to bend the plate is a temporary solution which probably wouldn't last a week.

            • @Heero: Do you have a link or what I should be search for on Aliexpress?

              • +2

@snuke: D2FC-F-7N(10M) is what you want. There are higher-quality switches available but these are the ones you want to be pulling apart.

Take a look at this comparison: Logitech MX Master 3 vs 2S Teardown

    • Thanks for all the comments. I was actually referring to the middle scroll wheel ratchet sticking and not jumping to free scrolling as it should, rather than actual right or left clicks.

If the 3 has a completely different system, then I think I’ll hold out for that.

Has the price gone back up toe $144?

    • Ozbargain'ed.

  • It's $144 now. :(
