please be aware that MSI dropped the ball with most of the x570 boards and the vrm's run hot as buggery..
run standard on lower chips like 3600 maybe ok but i wouldnt be putting the high end ones as they will throttle ..
lots of stuff on net about it so do your research so your informed.
shame as they do killer b450/470 boards

    • yup.. was going to say almost exactly that.. that is why I chose an ASUS Prime X570-P which costs about the same ($230 AUD) when on sale.

      • same features as this too?

or what are the main differences to this board?

  • watch this for those who need to chose a board..
    steve is pretty good reviewer.

no need for expensive boards unless you want extreme at all costs

    • Steve is a great reviewer, which is definitely true. But his test was not very meaningful for most gamers/users. First the ambient temp was 21C but that would never offset the fact that he was not using any heatsink, nor did he allow any air flow - in that case, 21C ambient would make little difference compared to 30C ambient, as the cpu temp would jump up in a jiffy. In the real world, if you pair a 12-core ryzen with a cheaped out motherboard, that would most likely be fine, given that there is a decent aftermarket cooler and a push-pull air flow.

P.S. I am currently running 3900X on a x570 gaming x, which is super smooth w/o temperature issue.

  • If you are planning to run stock, MSI's are ok. except for 3950x.

    • +2

The 3950X uses the same amount of power as the 3900X due to having better binned chips. Unfortunately for this board, it can't handle either. Max you would want to go with this would be a 3700X/3800X.

Even then, there are far better boards that you should prefer.

Very useful reference for comparing motherboards: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d9_E3h8bLp-TXr-0zTJF…

      • Great reference, thanks.

  • What's the best value AMD cpu and ram atm? Building a pc for my nephew, just to play games and homework. Nothing to crazy

    • Maybe consider a pre built techfast that are getting good support on ozbargain. They make models across price levels which lets you choose budget and seem to give a bit more bang for buck on the GPU and CPU while saving on other parts. You can probably actually save ten percent on individual parts build or five percent if you are a super ozbargainer using all best eBay codes and deals.

    • I'd be grabbing a ryzen 5 3600 and 16gb of crucial ballistix lt sport 3200Mhz.

Punkboy's suggestion is also worth considering unless you already have the other components.

      • Ya I already have other spare parts to use, and I love building myself, just not up to date with ryzen stuff atm. Thanks for the advice

  • I was planning on going with the Asus Prime X570-P/CSM for a similar price. Which would be better?

    • Sadly for my deal, Ozbargain have spoken and said that the VRM is superior on the ASUS for about the same $$$.
