It's in the coupon book for this fortnight, was wondering what the price before discount was, cheers :)

This model doesn't come with the dock, right? Basically it is incomplete.

O_O what if yuve had it for like 6 months? XD

        • +17

what part of "at any time" did you not understand mate?

        • then you might be on their black list :P

        • -3

how about if i apply first then cancelled, next month i will ask my partner to apply, then the month after i will ask my partner brother, then month after that my partner sister, then my brother, then my sister, continue for 12 months, a year latter, i will reapply again. do think that trick might work with Costco?

        • +6

I singed up shortly after the Melbourne opening, I got my refund after 362 days :) I was surprised they didn't ask any questions or anything.

PS: for anyone wondering why I quit it was the fact that for everyday items they are actually more expensive than Cole/Woolworths when they have things on sale and only 5-10% cheaper normally but you have to buy 5x what you need.

        • +3

you had to sing for your membership?

          thats a bit rough ;).

  • If I knew this I would not have ordered from Amazon.

    • +7

don't understand, Amazon is selling 372 aud inc shipping, what was it that you did not like besides saving more than $60? (and no hassle of signing up with Costco and cancelling for refund later)

    • +2

Costco has GST inclusive which I could claim while Amazon doesn't.

      • +1

you do realise as an ozbargainer its to save every dollar right? 444 less GST is still more ex than Amazon, plus you don't have to go sign up for Costco and drive all the way there, and having to claim GST, and lodge a refund with Costco.
Amazon shipping is by far one of the fastest on a good day, 1 to 1 1/2 weeks.

        • -2

warranty is the one we should buy locally , Amazon stuff , who are you going to yell at if something wrong happened ?

        • +2

Asus Australia. It has a global warranty.

      • -1

The charger from Amazon is most likely tailored to American's market and may not fit on our power board.

        • True, but a 99c adapter will take care of that. Look on ebay.

  • wait, so it's the member price/discount for costco..?

isn't it that you can only enter and purchase from costco if you are a member?
so what's the member/non member thing about? i'm confused

    • AFAIK it costs $60 to become a member. Only members can shop at costco, but you can get a refund on your membership at any time.

    • How much does it cost to send it back to them? AFAIK you can't send it via Australia Post because the device contains lithium battery which is considered as dangerous goods.

      • It's got global warranty, so Asus au will sort out any problems. Just like Apple do when you take in your 4th iPad due to terrible screen bleed and dead pixels.

    • there is always one…

Steve Jobs has trained his sheep very well ey … :P

    • holy crap, did not expect trolls in ozbargain.

  • hey guys, i've been weighing up whether to get membership at costco or not, and yeah i know you can get the fee refunded but it seems like a hassle.

just wondering, is it actually cheap?
and i mean for regular sized food items and such, not for like 100kg barrel of laundry powder heh.
how does it compare to shopping at woolworths or aldi?
    thanks =]

in speaking to a friend who's gained employment with them, they dont have 'sales' and they dont 'match price'. they just keep prices as low as possible, but still try and make a profit. so when a competitor can beat their set low price, they withdraw the item from sale until the competitor deal is over. is that good for the costco member? probably not. but consistantly low prices on normal items does put pressure on other retailers to be competitive.

        • They actually DO have "sales" as in they sell items at a "sale" or "cheaper than normal" price sometimes;
          http://www.costco.com.au/coupons/Costco2011Aug14.pdf
The whole point of THIS OzBargain post is that the Asus Transformer is "On Sale" @ $50 Off for the first two weeks of August as are many other items detailed in the link ;)

I also don't really understand your friend's statement that "when a competitor can beat their set low price, they withdraw the item from sale until the competitor deal is over" because I have seen items that were MORE expensive at Costco than the weekly "sale" items from Woolies or Coles and they were still being offered for sale :)

    • +1

You can't really compare it to Woolworths or Aldi for "regular sized food items"

It's called "Costco Wholesale Australia" because they tend to sell most things in bulk quantities…

Many items work out cheaper per kilo or unit (and some don't) but you usually have to be prepared to buy bigger quantities than Woolies or Aldi to get the savings…

      • :L buy in groups. :D problem solved

        • True shadow131, but not all things are convenient for a group buy.
For example; Do you really want to buy a 1kg tub of Homous dip and split it into five lots of 200g - not very convenient to be scooping dip or pouring sauce/juice into BYO individual containers for members of the group ;)
Also once you "break the seal" of a single large container to split the food up it may not keep so well…

No it's not really worth it if you're careful with your money.
They are only 5-10% cheaper but you have to buy 5x what you need. Apart from this they also never have typical weekly sales so if you're careful with your money you will find way better bargains in the Coles/Woolworths catalogues. The selection is also severely limited often to a single brand/product.

Eg: Costco sells arnotts shapes for around $9 for 4 BBQ flavoured ones, this beats Supermarkets normal price of $2.60ea but last week Coles had them on sale for $1.30 and they can be frequently purchased for 2 for $4. Also with supermarkets you can get other flavours or a mix of flavours but Costco only sells 4xBBQ packs and nothing else.

Although there's no harm trying I got refunded after 362 days and shopping there half a dozen times.

    • Why don't you read what freakyterrorist said just 2 hours before your post?

      • He said it 2 hours after. how can freakyterrorist reply to a comment before it has been asked?

  • Amazon much cheaper! and you dont have to pay for membership fee!

  • The Amazon link says it does not ship to Australia.

    • +1

      Doesn't say that for me.

  • +1

amazon does ship to AU you can upgrade the standard shipping and pay a total or $415AUD and it will arrive by friday 5th AUG.

or if you want to wait it cost you about $385AUD about 2weeks to arrive.

Asus has international warranty for this tablet and laptops so you can have it shipped for repairs locally.

    • -2

You sure? The Amazon link says it only has a North American warranty… link to international warranty?

      • -1

do you trust Amazon or ASUS for information on that ASUS Transformer?

this took me shorter time to find than writing this reply.

        from whirlpool via google

"I was just in the US and managed to pick up a tablet and a dock from a bricks and mortar store. My experience was stock levels are hit and miss – even if the website says its there it may not be. And be prepared to buy the tablet and dock in two separate deals.

On the plus side the warranty card in the box says it is a global warranty, so problems can be resolved in Aus."

  • No price list or items listed, on the Costco website, so it's hard to compare prices on items they stock before dropping in.
The point of Costco IS that they are supposed to be cheaper. I know someone who bought a laptop from them and assured me it was about $400.00 cheaper than he'd been able to bargain for at HN and JB.

  • I go overseas for a month for a holiday and now there is a Costco in Auburn? Wooohooo!

    • +1

If you are really tight, join in the USA - you save about $10 and get a 14-month membership :)

  • FYI, I know that in Costco US if you cancel your membership with Costco you'll not be able to join again for 12 months.

    • thats mean my trick above will be work then? :) just kidding eveyone, u guys so serious for this type of comment :)

good deal, a plus from me but I refuse to use anything rather than a mighty Ipad

    • boring! I dislike dealing with itune.

    • do you also like being rammed in the a$$ by Steve Jobs

      yes Haters gonna hate

  • Good deal if you are one of those people who simply must buy it from a bricks and morter shop … but seriously … just buy it on amazon. If saving money is your goal, then it's a no-brainer.

  • +2

I would strongly suggest that anyone considering getting this get the keyboard dock for around $200 (locally or cheaper overseas). It is definitely worth the $$. With the dock combined with the transformer, you'll get an awesome netbook that lasts for ~14-15 hours continuous use.

Pity it's wifi only (I think the 3G version is releasing soon), but if you're into dev hacking, it is possible to use this with a 3G dongle.

  • Is it android only or can it run win 7?

  • B&H Photography also sell and deliver the Transformer as well as the dock to Australia:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=asus+transformer&N=…

    Check it out!

    • Total cost $446.31. Honestly. That's f***ing amazing. B&H have the best shipping ever. 4 days from US, incredibly protected.

      • I reckon you got it wrong…

      • My one from amazon took 5 business days for $430.

        • But not with a dock, rite?

  • Got one earlier today for $450 at Bing Lee including a screen cleaning kit. :)
