What's the difference between b350 and b450? I'm guessing since the b350 option is there, the bios is updated/compatible with the r7 3800x, but is the b450 somehow more future proof?

    • +1

More USB and DIMMs, more BIOS features, major brand for those who want it. I will add a more premium B450 upgrade option too, hopefully tomorrow, with WiFi.

  • Hi Luke,

What NVME drive is the upgrade option?

    • It has been the Crucial 1TB and Crucial or Kingston for 240gb.

  • Is there any way I can get it without the case?

    • No sorry, complete spec only.

  • Is this system good enough for photo/4k video editing?

    • The CPU is definitely up to it. Definitely recommend the 32GB memory kit and as much SSD storage as your budget allows. And as far up the GPU scale as budget allows as well.

  • @luketechfast I'm assuming the MSI Armor upgrade is not the MK2 right? (the one with faster core/boost clock - rather it is for the slower one)

I am not sure if you are allowed to give advice/happy to do so, but is the RX580 MSI armor upgrade worth it as opposed to Biostar? I'm planning to upgrade to Versa H18, assuming airflow is enough for the purpose right?

Sorry for the many questions, my last PC built is 10 years ago, I'm so out of loop.

Also, for what's it worth I have tried few site comparisons (inc. MSY), but just can't beat your price Luke!

    • The MSI Armor is this one: https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/Radeon-RX-580-ARMOR-8G-OC.…

      H18 will be great!

      • Thanks for prompt reply Luke! Can I check with you if the Biostar default is RX580 2048SP or 2304SP model?

        • +1

          Hahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Definitely not the 2048SP. (Check posts from around mid of the year for that fun saga)

          • @luketechfast: Thanks mate for clarifying! Just one quick thing, would we be eligible to claim the promotion that AMD is currently running with this purchase?

https://www.amd.com/en/gaming/game-bundle (Buy select AMD Radeon™ graphics or Ryzen™ processors and get 3 months of PC Games with Xbox Game Pass.)

              • @luketechfast: Ok, just pulled the trigger on this one!

Are you guys happen to be able to do Unactivated Windows 10 Pro instead?

Also, I was wondering if you are able to issue tax invoice (with your ABN)? Since this computer is going to be used for work purposes.

Thanks again Luke for answering all the questions! Much appreciated.

  • amazing build! would be great if we can have the 3900x as a upgrade option as I would use it mainly for productivity and photo editing. I would be glad to pay a couple of hundred $ to get that upgrade.
The current 3900x deal is a little too big (case wise) and a little expensive for me.

    • The 3900X required the J25 as the motherboard is ATX. No way around that unfortunately, so the price works out the same.

      • Ok, thanks for the reply, when will we have the 3900x or 3950x back on sale. The previous one has expired.

  • Hi Luke, can you please advise which specific make/model is the 1TB m.2 NVME SSD??

1TB m.2 NVME SSD [Requires Minimum B350/B360 Motherboard Purchase] $139.00

    • It has been the Crucial P1 so far but we may use alternate brands and models here according to availability.

  • Hi first post :)
Any possibilty of having a BYO graphics card option? Have a mildly bottlenecked 2080 I wouldn't mind popping in this

    • No sorry. You would need to buy the lowest spec GPU option and do you what you need to do with that. Please be aware that modifying the system as delivered may have warranty implications as we wouldn't support an after market GPU in our warranty.

is there a noticeable difference between b350 and b450? jist trying to justify the extra $99

    • +1

It has more USB ports and DIMM slots, more BIOS features and improved on board cooling, plus some people prefer the MSI brand to Biostar.

  • any chance of adding a 3 or 4 tb internal hhd option ?

    • Not for this deal sorry.

  • Hi Luke,

I dropped you guys an email at [email protected] regarding paying part with Zip Pay and the rest with credit card. Just wanted to bring it up here so she doesn't get overlooked, I reckon you guys are probably getting a lot of messages at the moment!

    Cheers.

    • Also interested in if this is doable.

      • Doable, please email with the request.

        • just providing follow up, i paid in full instead and wont require the split payment.

    • Think I have replied to your email, PM me if not.

  • Which variants of galax and MSI 2080 super does this ship with?
Im looking to add a waterblock to it for water cooling and need to know if they are reference design or other
    Cheers

    • +1

Galax 1-click OC and MSI Ventus XS OC, both dual fans.

      • ahh thats annoying on the MSI XS variant - its a bit smaller than a regular reference design.
And its a bit hard to tell but i think the galax is the same - so likely wont be able to find a waterblock for it.

        • I do think you're right.

Just applied for the Kogan black credit card, hope it comes through fast enough to buy this PC and get $500 free credit at Kogan.com for a couple of monitors!

  • Luke: Does this deal expire end of today? Or end of next Monday? Appreciate it if you can let this deal go over the weekend to allow most of us to do a bit more research on what we need etc.

    • +1

      Cyber Monday mate.

  • Hi Luke,
I did pull the trigger finally and bought one of these systems. Excited for it to arrive!

Just doing more research, and am wondering when you guys build the systems, do you do any overclocking/stress testing? I was just reading about the XMP utility on the MSI mobo and wondering whether the RAM I've bought can be overclocked (went for the BLACK FRIDAY 32GB upgrade).

Is this the best place to ask technical support questions, or is there another channel? Thanks

    • [email protected]. If you purchased 3200Mhz RAM we enable the memory profile during initial setup and every system is fully stress tested. Cheers

  • Any significant differences between the B350 and B450 if you have no plans of upgrading the CPU?

  • Do these Ryzens all have hyperthreading (or whatever AMD call it…the i7-9700 doesn't for instance and Docker Desktop-WSL requires it).
Also is it enabled in the bios by default?

Will be ordering a build this weekend for recording/programming once I work out the MB & Graphics, thanks for the deal Luke.

AMD Ryzen uses SMT, which is an IBM technolgy that goes back for quite some time. AMD Bulldozer (and it's offspring) used CMT, which had 2 physical cores that shared some resources, that aren't shared in any other x86 architecture. Prior to that, AMD didn't have any multithreading tech.

Intel's Hyperthreading is essentially them renaming SMT anyways. Both are treated the same, and 99% of the time, they act the same. Both have 2 affects: better multitasking if resources are available (via smart resource balancing and juggling), and helping prevent thread lock.

Stole this explanation from LTT forums

      TLDR: yes Ryzen has hyperthreading

      • Cheers!

  • I'm really a noob. Primarily for gaming and potentially another self upgrade in 2-3 years time.

    i7 9700k with 2080 Super or Ryzen 7 3800x for gaming?

    Anyone can help please?

    TIA!

    • +1

Is gaming the only thing you're going to be doing? If yes then go for the Intel 9700k. I believe they do better in more games than the AMD 3800x (although it is very close atm. You're not missing many fps between them)
If you're looking at doing anything else like productivity, editing, live streaming, or even watching movie on another monitor while gaming, then go for the AMD.
personally they are so close that the benefits to doing anything other than gaming makes me lean towards the 3800x

  • Hey fellow bargainers, I'm looking for a rig around $1200. Would this deal likely be one of the best for its value I'll find around this time with it being only $200 less than what I'm looking to spend? Want to get back into my PC gaming.

    • +1

I would probably recommend one of these over this deal. This processor would be overkill if your main use is gaming, and the graphics would be a real bottleneck. The one I have linked is more balanced and suited to gaming IMO.

      • Perfect. After some research I definitely agree. Think I'll add the 1tb hard drive to that as well. Do you know if the windows activation is a must by any chance? +$169 seems a but pricey.

Thanks for all your help though!

        • +2

I don't have an un-activated windows atm, but consensus on here seems to be that it is fine for most users unactivated.

          • @djkelly69: Awesome, thanks again for all your help :)

            • @Darkvolcos: I watched a youtube video by thio and he says only personal customizations like screen saver are affected. I am going to not activate then. Lol

  • The post says the RTX 2080 Ti has been a MSI Ventus GP in the past. Is that the 2080 ti I would get if I order?

    • Brands may vary but it is likely.

  • Do any of the motherboards have Thunderbolt 3? The top 3 board upgrades have 3.1 gen 2 ports, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as T3 which an audio interface I'm considering requires.
(I read some X570 mobos (eg AsRock and Gigabyte Aorus Master) are T3, but the specific X570 board being supplied here isn't obvious.)

** Alternatively can any of the MBs offered accept this T3 card or similar? https://www.amazon.com/Asrock-Thunderbolt-AIC-Express-Displa…

  • Sorry if this has already been answered but I couldn't seem to find it. I'm just wondering what the exact models are for the B450 motherboard, ram sticks (16 and 32 if different), and solid state drives (each variant if they are different). Thanks!

    • Also the power supply if thats alright, cheers.

      • +1

Brands may vary on all of these unless specified on the option itself on the websitr, but we have been using the MSI Pro VDH for B450, RAM has been Team or GSkill various models, and SSDs have been Crucial, Lexar and Gigabyte recently.
