Dupe, but it's like 50 pages down by now ;)

      That one is WD

        Doh!

        I failed reading :)

  • I remember the Seagate is easier to take it out and use on PC

The WD one needs a bit to mod it to use on PC.

    • But the WD is a helium drive and seems to be better for the price.

Still around the $265 mark… Waiting for something more like $220.

  • These likely to be SMR?

    • 8TB Seagate's all are but 10TB you might get lucky…

  • Good price for a 10 TB but I believe all eternal Seagates are shingled. Fine for just a single one off backup, but write speeds to reuse the storage space are apparently much slower. Western Digital external drives are good old fashioned PMR, and helium filled too (8 & 10 TB models).

  • what' the writing and reading speed for this one?

what's the lowest price for 10TB in history?

According to https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/dz2xx6/hdd… these have a 7200rpm Barracuda Pro inside.

This just made me interested in the drive options:/ at worst the SMR for a backup unit :)

Anyone from OZB gotten one yet? Do you need to crack the drive open to see the drive model inside?

      • I'd also be keen to hear this because whilst reddit is great, you really have zero guarantee of what drive will be inside once you shuck…! So tempted though!

After much thought, I still prefer NAS drives for my NAS, and whilst a Barracuda Pro is great for my desktop, I don't have any spare 3.5 slots and my existing (slower) drives are still fine with plenty of capacity. Oh well, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before 12TB/14TB start to drop in price and maybe then I'll need it!

      • I received mine today. I haven't opened it but it is reported as a ST10000DM0004, which Googles as a Barracuda Pro. Also the power adaptor comes with an Australian plug (and a bunch of others).

  • It always shocks me how many people leave negative reviews on Amazon because it comes with a US power plug… someone even said this drive was promoted on OzBargain hence why they were disappointed. Sigh.

I guess maybe we need to make it clearer in future deals that Amazon US = US power plug in the box.

  • Showing as $261.56 for me now.

    • Same. I have no need for it but yet I feel so compelled to get it… oh woe.

  • Did anyone receive theirs yet? Confirmed it's a Barracuda Pro?

    • +1

      Yes ST10000DM0004

  • Just logged in to mention that JB Hifi were able to price match this for me (+ delivery). Got it for $270. Nice!

    • oh lucky you

      • Should work for everyone, but as always it can depend on the rep you speak to. It should be cut and dried in the T&C's but they still have to go and 'check with the manager' it seems.

  • And now it's gone up to $294.
