I went from Shake and Win to shaking my fist at them lol

  • +9

    The prices keep rising :(

    • -2

      @jnrbargainr

Im pretty sure only the price of vouchers keep rising. I think the full price menu stay around the same.. can anyone confirm?

  • I thought they didn't accept vouchers any more? Had to be just through the app??

    • Incorrect, there was a brief phase where there was no overlap of vouchers, but luckily they released some. All good for vouches on phone or print out now. Assuming you're not too angry about the price jacking to eat.

  • -1

    Is phone ok?

  • +2

Thumbs up to HJ for jumping on vegetarian and vegan options. Blowing Raspberries at HJ for having NONE of them on vouchers. The 2 whopper meals used to allow for veggie option, not any more. Ah well, it was nice knowing you HJ's but you give vouchers to everyone else and restrict vegetarians and vegans to paying full ticket and you can go jump. You lost me, my family and friends. My waistline will probably rejoice, the veg options were just as fatty as the animal options anyway.

    • Am I missing something? 2 for $10.45?

      • Yep, on the front page. 2 vegan cheeseburgers for $10.45.

        • -2

Hah, I hit reload and the second page showed! Still where is the meal option, why just 2 burgers. Why do I have to pay full price ordering 2 x fries and 2 x drinks. That ends up an expensive deal compared to the 2 whopper meals with fries.

I wish they calculated which burger costs the same amount as the veggie options and allowed substitutions for that burgers meal deal like they used to with the 2 x whopper meals. That's gone in mostly $1 jumps from $9.95 to $13.95 in a couple of years. 40% increase and no longer allow for veggie substitution. Got hungry's for profit jacks.

        • Personally, I don’t like the taste of the vegan cheeseburgers. The Rebel Whopper is tasty though - not vegan unless no cheese or mayo (I assume)

          • @Elpres: And cooked on a meaty griddle. Vegan food for carnivores.

            • @swalloweda: I've read they're cooked separately.

              • @Sage: the Vegan Cheeseburger is cooked separately, but the plant-based burger is cooked on the same grill with the meat juice

    • Back in the day when I had veggie friends, you could order a whopper minus beef extra cheese, extra salad, and it cost less than a regular whopper.
      (ie cheese and salad roll)

Do they still do that? And can you substitute it using the coupons?

    • The vegie burgers go alright. Highly underrated. I still request the vegie instead of the vegan. Must admit, haven't tried the vegan yet. Although only difference is the cheese and mayo.

      • Not that different, the cheese isn't as melty.

    • +1

The sight of vegans and vegos in HJ's is offensive to me.

  • Tendercrisp’s price is rising up in each voucher. But still one of my favourites till now.

    • +1

The two xtra long for around $6 was good value… havnt seen them for around 2 or 3 voucher cycles though

    • Come to think of it, I've never had a Tendercrisp…

      • +1

        Try a cheesy bacon tendercrisp

        • Will do!

Also, has anyone tried that new Chorizo burger? I've always been reluctant to buy upper crust-priced burgers from HJ's, but I was in the Keysborough HJ's a few weeks ago, and the aroma from the smokey Chorizo was very appetising. 🤤

  • Another price hike for more profit about something they call a deal, best way is to not buy anything for just few days! they'll so quickly come to sense

  • +3

I'd like to talk to somebody about them removing the Extra Long Cheesy Bacon Chicken from the menu.

I feel like I lost a distant relative.

  • -8

What's everyone complaining about? Aren't these vouchers supposed to be cheaper than ordering on their own in-store? E.g. 2 Whoppers in store will set you back $12.80 however these vouchers have 2 for $8.95. Some of you won't be happy until Hungry Jacks pays YOU to ear their food…

    • -2

Hahahaha! The neggers are out in force!

  • +1

Woohoo! Onion Rings are still $2.

    • +4

Except they're the sh***y battered ones. Bring back the crumbed ones I say!

      • Not for me. My local HJ makes the best onion rings, never greasy or droopy and I love that they use actual whole rings. The crumbed ones used processed onions and were either soggy or dry or… ugh. So glad they changed to battered.

  • Cheers

  • Does anyone have a better scan

    • +2

      Potatoes were 2 for 1

  • +4

    Way to go Hungry Jack's.

You bring back the vouchers for us to make it appear we are getting good deals, but they are increased so much there's no good deals.

Getting a BBQ cheeseburger + doing survey instead now.

Also, while I'm on my rant: I'm getting no freebies on Shake and Win, only rubbish offers like "free hash brown with breakfast muffin", "BOGOF Oreo Storm" or "Free Sundae with Grill Masters Burger".

  • Damn, those price hikes.
That's about a $1.50 increase on the veggie whoppers. Last time it was a 50 cent increase.

  • King of Jack. These increases are alot. Surprised they didn't keep the prices low, with all the screwing around over the vouchers recently

  • Ouch prices up but still good value …. :(

  • The Burgers ain't that cheap @HJ.

  • Increasing the paper voucher prices could be to finally phase them out and get people to use the app only. They tried before.

2 brekky wraps 7.45 paper. 6 on app

    • I agree, this may be a strategy to phase out the paper vouchers. When the outcry occurs again over axing them, they can claim that no one was using them.

  • +3

They lost me when they discontinued the two Xtra Long Chicken Burger for $5.95 (and later $6.25).

It seems they have stopped the Xtra Long Chicken Burger altogether! It was a perfect meal!

    • Have to agree. I guess greed come in play.

    • Indeed

  • When will I see youuuu a-gain?

When will we shaaaare precious mo-ments?

Will I have to waiiiiit forevvver??!

  • +1

Price Jack's are higher at Hungry Jacks.

They aren't even being subtle about it. 2 Bacon Deluxe's were $7.45 a year ago. I get that prices need to go up, but $2 in 12 months is just greedy.

    Cya HJ's.

  • All the complaining on here does nothing send them a message by not buying their stuff.

    • +1

      Yes - and no.

Say that you, and many others, reduce their HJ's consumption. You feel better because you've made a 'statement'. However, Hungry Jacks don't know the reason you stopped buying their products.

There could be many reasons, in addition to, or instead of, their new voucher deals being too expensive: bad publicity, health scare, change of menu, change of taste, general economic conditions, etc, etc.

      send them a message

      This.

Send them a real message. Write to them. Tell them that the voucher deals are not as good as they were. Say that as a consequence you will be reducing your intake of HJ's product.

And if they receive enough complaints, they may actually do something about it. And if not, at least you have really done something that you obviously feel very strongly about.

Much better than a vague whinge on a forum.

  • +8

At this rate, the vouchers will match their current menu pricing.

  • +2

The deals get worse every time.

  • +4

In the past you can replace flamed grilled whoppers with Vege burgers. Therefore the cost was 2 for $8.95. In this vouchers, they specified that it will be not substituted for veg / vegan burgers), therefore it is 2 for $10.45. Increase of $1.5.

    I remember i was getting, 2 for $7.45, then increased to $7.95, then $8.45, then $8.95, now $10.45.

Before they were giving sauce (Hot sauce / peri peri sauce)free on the side. Then they said, they can give sauce free on the side however they were happy to put in the burger for free. Now they charging that as well.

Hungry Jacks looks old, feels old, shitty customer service, was only going there because of cheap prices, now they have increased that as well. Lost another customer.

    • +2

Wholly agree on the customer service point. Comparing maccas, HJ staff no matter what location treats customers badly.

  • Looks like the Shake and Win app feature and

    BBQ Cheeseburger $2.60
    Cheesy Cheeseburger $2.00

Is the only thing worth getting at Hungry Hikes now.

And maybe their $1.00 Large Frozen Drinks if you can't find a supermarket around you.

I honestly can't remember when they had good deals on the whoppers or other items in the past.

Their Xtra Long Range used to be good but honestly even that sometimes tasted like garbage but at least it was relatively inexpensive.

Long live the old Hungry Hacks whatever that used to be.

Dark times for cheap fast food.

Seems like Domino's is the best option nowadays honestly but that is the definition of slumming it sometimes.

  • It was only 2 years ago that I'd go to HJs every time for the $5 2x Whopper Jr + chips deal, not because I loved HJs but because it was the best damn deal out there. Now? I might as well just go to McDonalds - they're no longer the cheaper alternative.

It might seem like a small increase to corporate, but do they realise that $5 in their pocket is better than $0 in their pocket?

    • Yes, @ngengerous.

      So….????

Your comment is terrific. Send it to HJ's.

  • +1

Loved their paper vouchers and kept one in the car. Used to buy lots.

HJ used to have very good prices and their burgers tasted very nice.

But they lost me as a customer when their paper vouchers disappeared and with the current pricing, absolutely!

  • Hi guys where do you get these vouchers??? Also dealbot, the uploaded photo isn't very clear, can you possibly reload?

    • The paper voucher used to appear in my letterbox and the North Sydney shop used to have a stack, but you used to have to get in quick because they were snapped up quickly. I've been out of action for about a year, so not sure if that's changed or not. :)

  • +1

These vouchers are no longer bargains hence don't belong on OzBargain.

  • +1

Wow, I only go there for Shake and Win. McDonalds ftw!

  • +1

Oh well, it's Shake and Win for freebies or a deal on the bacon deluxe for me now. It's cheaper to use the local hamburger shop for a treat than the vouchers now and I never thought that would happen.

    • Sign of The Times - "It's cheaper to use the local hamburger shop for a treat than the vouchers now and I never thought that would happen."
Yes, my local hamburger shop also has crafted beer, real burgers & deserts, large Lcd screen, projector screen for special occasions like birthdays. Though I do applaud HJ & M for giving back to the community and providing opportunities for disadvantaged.

      • +2

My local hamburger joint does a hamburger for $6, lol!

  • Anyone got a better pic?

  • These don't always work, some outlets ask to use the app or see the barcode..

  • Prices increased everywhere. My local Kebab shop has not increased price in the past 10 years, but it recently increased price from $8 to $10 overnight.

  • +1

Vouchers are now live on HJ site.

  • 2 years ago the 2 Whopper Jnr’s and 2 Small Fries was $4.95.

The saddest part is that $7.25 is still a really good deal compared to normal prices.

  • HJ are pushing the boundaries to see how far they can take this non-sense, don't fall for their little experiment, vote with your hard-earned!

  • Just now the HJ at Macquarie shopping Center rejected voucher on phone. It’s a shame that they do this while jacking the price. They simply want more.

    • Did you tell them to shove it

      • +1

you can tell them to shove it ,but you still wont end up with any burgers!

        • +1

It's for the best. Gives you diabetes anyway

  • +1

Hungry Jack's circular quay rejected voucher on phone this morning saying they needed physical vouchers now, even when told they're on their own website. They were accepting these back until November. Anyone have any workarounds?

    • Don't go there at all! If they don't want to accept your voucher, go somewhere else.

    • Madness

    • that store has ALWAYS been run by annoying people.. They regularly refuse coupons and say they don't participate in any of the normal promos because they are a PREMIUM location LOL

  • They won't even do mayo on the side anymore. Apparently it's an OHS issue. What a joke

  • Thank you OP.

  • -1

10 nuggets and large chips was $5.95

    Now 6.95

  • +1

Got told by HJ Cannon Hill (QLD), the need the printed voucher to accept it, won't accept it via a pic on the phone any more.

  • +1

Well Hungry Jacks George Street in Sydney does not honour any photos of any vouchers on the phone. They want it physically a voucher. They honour whatever is on the app but if it is a photo of the voucher, they don't accept it at all!

Also, you can't ask for a voucher from them as they only give it to people who orders a meal!

Time to say goodbye to Hungry Jacks and hello Maccas!

Hopefully Carl's Jr expands in NSW soon!

    • Excellent! Maybe it is a sign that you should be eating less fast food!

I stopped eating earlier this year, and have noticed a smaller waist line, hopefully the doctor likes the results when I go for my yearly checkup.

      • If you make it a year after you stopped eating that might be a miracle!

      • Nice work

Any tips on how to resist junk food

  • Phone not fine then

  • Hungry Jack's at Macquarie Centre has also refused to accept softcopies of the vouchers. Another outlet to avoid.

    • Might have to have a sticky of HJs locations that refuse phone vouchers. Make it easier to avoid.

  • I was told at Maquarie Centre phone is Not Fine and given paper vourchers! Then then proceeded not to take the paper voucher.

  • Be wary bargainers! I was just told today that HJ's will no longer be accepting these vouchers via phone, and only paper vouchers will be accepted.
This was at Sydney Central HJ's btw.

    • who has a good colour photocopying template?!

  • +1

Phone is also not fine at North Sydney.

Just spent more at Oporto down the road instead lol

In hindsight, I should’ve asked what kind of paper is acceptable e.g. any plain old A4 printout? Or does it have to be their usual glossy media?

And if it’s that hard for their franchises to make money (let’s face it - they’re making vouchers available, and yet keep jacking up their prices and also limiting their usability at the same time), then either ensure every Aussie household has a hard copy (probably impossible) and take out the soft copy on their official web site, or keep the soft copy online and just give us an easily accessible list of “hard copy only” franchises, and not some stuff-up in between that ends up wasting our time and killing more trees etc.

Perhaps another OzBargainer with more patience can go to HJ to clarify the above for us. But I’m done with HJ and Subway (another story) until further notice! Especially when there are so many alternatives.

  • Accepted at North Sydney ..

    • Interesting. I wonder what changed over 9 days then…

  • Circular quay : Not accepted.
