this or DJI Mavic Mini 🤔🤔🤔

    • 100 of this.

  • +1

It's coming up as $8 delivered for me ($2 discount at checkout).

It is a terrible drone, I bought one for 99 cents earlier in the year from an ebay promo, but you can tell by the packaging and build quality it was meant to be far more expensive item at some point in time. The included case alone feels as it's worth more than $8!

Still a cheap stocking filler for $8, or someone who likes to be frustrated by technology!

    • Ok for $8?

      • +4

If you're someone who likes to be challenged by your tech rather than enjoy it, maybe ok.

    • u got the same one for 99c?

    • +2

they were $299 when they first came out . ruby rose was at the launch . have a look at IOT on hotcooper website if you want to read a tale of company that was done just to make money for scam staff . i didnt invest but watch iot forums and they suckered a lot in swicthing between new tech to ge more cash from investors

      • +1

        ruby rose at launch

        Right you are!

Things certainly went pear-shaped very quickly from there.

      • +1

If you're on hotcopper then you'll surely know me.

        • Yep, if only it was as easy to put you on ignore..

  • +3

bought for 99 cents. rubbish drone.

    • +2

Yeah same. It just drifts off refuses to stay still no matter what I do.

      • Haha
Does that say more about your relationship with the drone, or the tech itself?

Reviews make it sound more like a liability than a fun toy. Also the price elsewhere is much lower now (eg. Kogan $39), seems like it's still a deal but it will probably end up in the junk drawer.

    • +1

t sound more like a liability

I've owned many budget drones and now a spark. For a cheapie, this has extremely powerful motors, which makes it very noisy, and very intimidating to fly inside. Outside, one false move and it's gone for good.

  • +1

Replace that selfie stick with a selfie drone awesome.

  • +1

Going to grab a couple to give with any presents that I deem to not look good enough on their own…

    • At 99c these were ok.

At $8 your wasting your money. Also only work with Android if you have iphone dont bother. Plus Android needs to be afaster unit. No cheapies otherwise lag is bad, and bad lag means lost control.

Flew mine once. it crsahed (being flown by a Mavic owner) as it wasnt that responsive to commands.

    • +1

The packaging is VERY premium, it looks expensive. They will be impressed, until (a) they google the price (b) fly it.

But still, they'll get a good buzz for your $8.

      • They will google the RRP hopefully…

  • +1

If it includes a working 16gb card, the case and camera @ 1080/60fps then it's worth to me even if it doesn't fly. And I'm a masochist.

    • You could make like a gheto action cam by severing the bits you don't need. Comes with two lithium ion batteries.

  • looks decent

    good for xmas presents!

  • can we cancel the Paypal Transaction after buying item , Thanks

    • Shouldn't be an issue. Good reminder.

  • +3

Curiously, this drone was designed and developed by the Australian asx listed IOT Group.

Their shares once traded at $0.20, but before being suspended from trade last year they valued at just $0.001 cents.

Might explain why there is such a huge stockpile of these things in Australia.

    • I bought them at $0.14. Still hold. Yay me!!

    • +1

I bought at 4c, sold half at 12c, rest at 18c. One of my more successful penny stock ventures.

    • This is all a bit strange
      <4 month old website
      paypal sets up automatic payments
      invoices < 1000
      ABN registered in July
Some kind of drop shipper having "multiple sellers in the one place" about us

Drone hardware looks surprisingly decent with brushless motors, an attempt at optical flow and a 16gb sd card but wifi kills it. See more here
IOT group looks to be gone, when you include shipping these things must have been purchased at insane prices if legit.

  • Got one to test for fun .

Not much to lose for $8

    • Update I bought 5 , seriously

    • Not much to lose for $8

That's assuming you don't crash it into your TV or similar.

      • Im going to use them as stocking fillers

        • +1

They can't do much damage in there.

    • This guy says don't buy it!

Lol…. Love it… 7 minute drone video review and he couldn't get it to leave the ground!

I should declare Mine left the ground, no issues.

  • Any recommendations on a half decent drone?

    • +1

Anything that starts with the letters DJI…

      • forgot the …under $30

        • None of them :)

  • Bought it to see if the hard shell case is good for my new osmo pocket thanks!

  • +2

Mine was still under the lake in Daylesford after it lost connection only 2 meters away.

It's a crappy possession wondering if the company is still existing.

  • Bought, thanks for this good Chrissy stocking packer for kids :D

  • I'm fighting so hard not to buy this rubbish for some strange reason

  • +3

Bought one for unboxing experience, any sort of flight will be a bonus

    • The unboxing is the best part…. It's a gorgeous box.

  • +2

This site seems a bit too suss. Hopefully these buyers aren't going to get into too much trouble.

    • +1

Bought two, came as black drones in 3 business days!

  • Just bought a couple. The $8 didnt show for me so may be expired. I was charged $10ea

    • Did you buy both in the same transaction? they needed to be done as separate transactions for the coupon to be applied, we ran into the same issue when we purchased 2 as well. Hope the info helps :)

  • I bought a couple. Apparently it flies better with the firmware update…if only you can find it somewhere. The site is down, the company is no longer trading.

    • +1

Please share if you find it. I have two from the 99c deal. Only one flies and that's a struggle. Deadly weapon if used inside

  • +7

I ordered two. Yet to get a confirmation email from Walla [EDIT: was in my spam folder]. Think this whole thing might be a complete waste of money. There is no longer any App to fly it on the iOS App store. If you want to fly with iPhone try the AEE zone app. This drone looks to be identical to the AEE Sparrow 360. There was a firmware upgrade to version 3.7 but the theIOTgroup webiste is completely offline. So unless someone out there has a copy of the firmware this thing might not even get off the ground. If anyone has info on best apps, firmware, manuals etc, also please comment.

Pretty sure this will be the seller that is trying to offload the ROVA A10 through Walla.

    • +1

Canconfirm the AEE app works with this drone on the iPhone. Also the firmware does update the unit as well to 3.9 (link in comments on the youtube video link)

How well it all works I cant yet confirm as its too windy outside to fly, and my drone skills are lacking.

      • Still not convinced its any good, tried with this app and it flew up and away down the hill, thenkfully it crashed before it was really lost.

Its back to the cupboard before the bin. Damn waste of 99c

    • +1

Thanks for this comprehensive summary of info bro. I followed this and found AEE Zone app does fly the drone on a iPhone running the latest iOS. However it ONLY says "connect failed" on my Android phone using either the official ROVA app or the AEE Zone app installed in Google Play. The Android is up to date as well. I am though using its out-of-box firmware. And can confirm that it is quite tricky to fly it nicely.
Was frustrated when it stayed on ground but now it quite happy with the drone. it's very well made and like people said earlier only the case worths more than 8 dollars. OP might want to warning people stop looking for ROVA app, please use AEE Zone (by selecting Sparrow) instead.

Hi all I managed to find the firmware !!!!

I found a video of a guy discussing how to update the firmware and asked if he he had copies of the latest ones and he uploaded it .

Please be kind to like his video and post a thank you comment.

    • Excellent thanks, I've just downloaded it. I saw your message on youtube yesterday and was waiting eagerly for the link.

  • +2

Also for the app you can use the AEE sparrow app according to catch

    https://m.catch.com.au/product/rova-a10-blk-flying-selfie-ai…

I’ll test mine out once I receive it

    • I'm also iOS user. Thanks!

  • +3

Received it today and they sent the black colour version. Had firmware 3.9 out of the box.

    • +1

      Nice !

Let us know how you go with it

  • Does this come back on sale soon, want to buy another 5 ticket packaging looked much more than $8 very happy

    • +1

I got mine today and played around with it . So far works well and looks really good quality .

      Very happy for $8

      • Yea the packaging already made it look much more than $8

  • Hmm, still playing around with it. I've only tested it inside but it seems next to useless when you put the 'obstacle avoidance' on - the drone goes out of control - works better with it switched off. I did update the firmware but then I found that it didn't put out a wifi signal. I managed to get it to show wifi after holding down the red button on the drone and inserting the battery and continuing to hold etc for a while. Such a shame, it does have some potential and I haven't given up on it yet. Would have been better with it's own controller as using a phone just sucks. Short flight time as well is a minus. If anything for the price there is a nice set of brushless motors that could be used for a self build. .

    • +2

On the topic of using it for parts. The 4 in 1 esc used supports pwm over some handy test points. I had a go at retrofitting a new flight controller and thus far it's been unstable. The frame is also very flexible which isn't great. The 16gb micro sd card and mini usb cable make it not a terrible deal, which can not be said of the drone.

  • Started the return process as the drone is unresponsive.
It won’t give out a network to connect to so it’s not even able to be used as a camera.
Didn’t expect much from this product but less than that is worse.
Thankfully paid with paypal to cover return costs.
    Junk.

    • I had a similar issue when after I updated the firmware. I managed to get it working ie wifi signal by holding down the red button until the front LEDs light up, some 10 seconds.

      • Hey Pete same thing happened to mine today, tried the update and it backfired. Became a plastic toy.

How did you manage to get it to work again?
