  • Want to neg this - it is just a Harvey Norman "sale". If good bargains are posted, I will revoke.

    Nothing personal!!

      Forum post? Not Bargain.

Someone woke up angry this morning!

        • +1

Hey, I thought I was Angry !!!???, no wait I'm CrAzY ! Sheesh we need nametags…

        • +4

I completely agree sickllama, HVN have a sale every weekend. A "sale" does not mean a bargain, if TieNN89 was a rep this post would have so many negs because no specific eg's are provided. Instead TieNN89 is asking for ozbargainers to provide examples of the bargain they got a HVN, hence should be in forum.

Someone woke up this morning and realize that his missus'd runaway with HN staff

Even tough they use the word "Brissies Biggest Evah SALE" - we could only assuming that there is a bargain. Should be in the forum then

    • i completely agree… dont know who's negging you, because there's no actual bargain here.

  • +1

Have been there yesterday, just looking for laptops so not sure other goods.
The deals are slightly better than what has been offered recently in HVN stores. Eg. if you wanted to buy something from HVN, it would be good opportunity to buy now. Haven't bought myself anything but 16GB USB stick for $19.

I bought my Samsung 55D7000 Smart TV at one of these HN specials two months ago.

So far, no one has been able to beat the price. Even the Costco price is about $40 higher. JB HiFi is now having a 'Samsung TV Price Blitz' but the price for the same modle is almost $150 higher than what I've got from HN.

Computer prices should now only be 100% more expensive than MSY instead of 200%.

    • -7

Thats comparing Apples to Oranges considering its not necessarily the core business to sell computer PARTS as opposed to branded systems (HP, Lenovo etc). Not to mention the zero customer service or satisfaction of MSY nor their willingness to accept warranties.

      • +6

i perfer zero customer service if it saves me money

    • Some people do not live in capital cities… MSY raving is pointless!

The persian carpet shop round the corner is having closing down sales every single day since 1999, i wonder if i should post it up every other day? :)

I remember going to a Harvey Norman closing down sale once - everything must go, no reasonable off refused - I made an offer of $300 on a $339 amp and got told it would never happen - purchased the same amp from WoW that afternoon for $289. In closing, Harvey Norman are jerks :P

If you can get a bargain though, good on ya :D

      • I picked up a Marantz SR5500 amp for a third of it's list price at an EOFY/New ownership sale. But I guess that was a one off - they are usually waaay overpriced.

      • You must have only been an OzB padawan at that time. Now that the force is strong with you, you would make an offer of $250 on a similarly priced item, right? ;)

        • +1

it was before I joined the 'force' known as ozbargain :P

  • so this would bring them inline with the more expensive computer stores rather than the cheap ones.

harvey norman has a sale every week. show us the spacifics.

  • +1

    this is an ad.

  • +2

they could probably make things cheaper if they stopped doing these ads every 2nd week

  • I wonder what it's costing them to host this huge sale at the convention centre and how exactly they plan to recoup that cost? Can't see how having a massive sale (booking the centre, moving all the stock in and then back out etc) equals lower prices.

Can anyone who has scored a true bargain post details of said bargain?

    • +1

It will be just as you predicted…. granted that there will be 'loss leaders' just to 'prove' that there are products at 'sales' price… but I bet my monday coffee that if you spend just a little bit of effort to search on the web, you can find a bargain elsewhere.

    1. Raise prices by 500% and bring them back down.
    2. Hold a 'BIGGEST YEAR SALE!'
    3. ???
    4. Profit!
  • +1

i'm sorry but I don't see, what is the bargain?????

  • Someone, please move this to the forums. Even the poster is wondering 'So has anyone been? what bargains did you get?'

If so, then why post it as a bargain…

  • Been, nothing spectacular to no surprise.

    another scam from Gerry

    spam.

Biggest ever sale? At the rate they have 'biggest' sales they should be giving stock away for free by now.

  • Well I got a good set of speakers. Was selling for 199 according to their price list but was reduced to 60 at the last minute which is 45mins before closing. Got memory cards also which was reduced to 9 also nearing closing. No idea if that's good or bad. I guess it just depends on luck, I saw these speakers online and the min price any retailer was offering was 119 or 139 on average.

As much as I would like to join the harvey norman hate, this was actually a really good sale. They had loads and loads of stock and cheapest prices I've seen on many of the items.

    We bought:
    *kenwood steammop $50
    *sunbeam multiblender $20
*russel hobbs electric salt/peppar mills $10 (for the pair)
    *philips earphones $3

That's not to say that was the best deals. A couple of other examples from the top of my head includes:
    *Grundig 32" lcd for $250
    *acer 18.5" monitor $49
    *electrolux ergorapido vacuum stick $99

And as I said, lots of stock, negotiable on all the prices and from all I could tell a genuine interest to clear all the stock.

EDIT: ie, even though some items was not marked super low, they walked around and announced 2min specials on one item at a time to increase the hype (and people were buying like crazy!).. but all you had to do really was ask one of the sales people and you'd get the lower prices anyway.

HN have a closing down sale every weekend if you had not noticed.

    • I have never seen them fill up the convention center before, so while I agree that the "deal" is not fully explained, this is not your normal sale. If you want to neg the deal because of the poster not being specific that is one thing, but I can not for the life of me understand why everyone is giving this deal a negative based on their assumption that it is not a good deal despite not having been there or have any idea of anything :P

Anyway, it's over now so doesn't matter :) But I'm definitely going next time they do this and I would recommend others to do the same as they had many prices that were the lowest I've ever seen (yes, including online stores etc).

  • couldn't get any lower prices of tvs or all-in-one pcs

the samsung 40" 6400 3D LED tv was good price at $999, but i wanted it cheaper :P sold out by 4pm sunday

    • That reminds me that they had some fancy acer computer (computer built in behind the screen, if that's what you mean) for $499 (not the marked price, but the going rate). I think that was after cash back from acer though. Not sure about the specs, but lots of people bought it so I'm guessing it was a good deal :)
