    My code not being used:

    • +2

Mine's the same. Looks to be generic

      • +1

        Yep, same code here too.

    • +2

      That's also my code - 92690606130

So it's not unique, go nuts people

    • Thanks mate!

  • +6

if this was bayonet, i'd be all over it

    • +2

      Buy a cheap converter

      • +4

This works - just be aware that you're adding approx. 1-2inches to the normal globe height.
So if you're planning on using them in something without much shade height they will stick out.

      • +1

I didn't even know bayonet-to-screw converters existed! Any tips on where to get them? I ordered this kit even though my entire home is bayonet fittings :)

        • +7

There is a question as to whether or not they c

          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9vjjr4j9#r48043511omp… legally.
          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2358686

Even if they do, if they were to cause a fire or electrocution good luck collecting on your home insurance. If you're still going to risk it I'd probably see if I could find a major retailer to buy from rather than a small overseas company with the lowest price on Ebay. Though I'm not sure what protection that will offer if things go wrong. I'm certainly no lawyer.

Anyway I'm sure I'll be down voted but I'd rather put the warning out than avoid that.

Another option to consider is to use them in E27 desk lamps. That should be perfectly legal assuming the product has no warnings against doing so. Might not suit your desired aesthetics though.

          • @syousef: Yeah, I had thought of the desk lamp option. Probably a better idea. I can't change the bayonet wall fittings because I'm renting.

Too good a price to pass these up at any rate!

          • +2

@syousef: I am not sure if they still do or not but IKEA used to sell them when I worked there in 2016.

            • @Nand0sx: Still sell them in the UK IKEA if anyone’s visiting and prepared to bring back a small suitcase full?

            • @Nand0sx: yeah they still do, that's where i got mine, they are cheap too, I couldn't get them for less on ebay last time I checked, I guess they just want to make sure there is no barrier to people buying their globes

              • @Jackson: Cheap is right, tried one in a lamp base with 3 candle lamps jammed firmly in first one tried never tried in others.
Had to buy new 3 lamp and get fitted costly just to try IKEA lamps.

          • @Kooratz: I second this - fulfilled by amazon must be good, mine are working well so far

          • +1

@Kooratz: Be careful buying from amazon as my purchase of similar items came in zip bag with 5 sockets that looked liked they were hand picked. But in the bag 2 had managed to wedge into another 2 firmly.
Unscrewing 1st set damaged the gold plate of the screw section of one .
Second set was so so tightly wedged it had to be pulled out from one another damaging plating and socket of one and pin on the other.
While amazon supplier offered to look in to it. The added trouble was not worth the cost.

      • They’re not legal and there’s a reason they’re not sold at places like Bunnings.

        • The reason is probably to protect idiots from themselves.

But if you can figure out how to buy them on the 'net, you can probably figure out not to install them in a live socket with a finger inside.

FYI, The non-idiot way is to first screw the ES bulb firmly into the adaptor, and then install the assembly into the socket like a regular bayonet globe.

Of course they are no longer "A60" size, but longer.

Use this barcode for in-store purchases

    • You champion

    • MVP for this deal, this guy.

  • What's the catch here? This seems incredibly good.

    • +42

The catch is you risk getting hooked and buy another 15 - 30 globes to outfit the rest of your house.

      • +1

Legit happened to me. Need to start HueAnon self help group

        • +4

Any room for Lifx addicts in there?

          • +2

@cnut: Of course! This started with one google mini - it’s a gateway gadget - not even once

    • The bulbs are only tungsten white so you're not able to adjust for day/night colours. It's a good deal if you don't already have any Hue hubs/bulbs.

    • +2

gateway drug to HUE smart bulbs

  • What can I do with the bridge if I already have one at home? Any creative way to play with it?

    • Last year I sold one for around $50 to $60. Don’t think there’s much use for having multiple of them.

      • Do I need a bridge still if I have an Echo Dot?

        • +2

I think you will still need a bridge with this. The bulbs communicate through the bridge, not Alexa/google home directly.

        • Yes

        • Echo Dot doesn't have a Zigbee bridge, Echo Plus does. You will need a hub.

        • If you have an Echo Plus you don't need the bridge. But without the bridge you'll miss out on some of the features. I have Hue bulbs here some are connected via the bridge, some via the Echo Plus (before I had a bridge). My advice, get the bridge for this price.

          • @tonydav: Yeah for $28 it's a good deal. Even if my house is completely bayonet.

      • Have limit of 50 total of bulbs/devices per bridge so if you reach that need second (100 need third and so on).

    • Sell it, I sold one for $50 a few months ago.

      • Where did you sell it?

    • You can partition areas of your house to use different hubs, limiting access to certain members. Also needed if you have more than 50 bulbs.

  • +1

These aren't the white ambiance ones are they?

    • Nope

      • Cheers. Will pass then.

  • +16

In true OZB style I purchased without thinking. NFI if my fittings at home are bayonet or edison…..

    • +1

      same, bargain first, worry later

    • +1

Aftermarket converters are cheap enough anyway

    • Just put them where you kept all your eneloops…..

  • Thanks

  • How do the Philips Hue compare the to the Xiaomi Yeelight smart bulbs?

    • +1

      Prefer the Philips
      Seem more responsive

      • +2

Philips can be switched locally in the bridge, Yeelight needs to be controlled by a server in China.

    • +2

Xiaomi uses wifi, Philips uses different connection, thus less wifi interference, more responsive.

  • Don't need. Bought. ;-)

    • Still 139 on amazon. Wonder if they will match

      • +1

Probably not since this requires a voucher code, how would they even know the price?

  • Would this bridge be more useful than the one that’s built into the Echo Plus?

    • +1

If you go full Hue, yes. The Hue app and other apps that connect to Hue can do some funky stuff.

      • Thanks for the reply. That made my decision much easier.

      • +1

        What sort of funky stuff?

        • +1

Syncing lights to music, syncing lights to what's displayed on your monitor, creating lighting schedules based off different requirements, setting up a circadian rhythm schedule, slowly dimming or brightening the lights for sleep/wake up time to name but a few.

    • I was using the Echo Plus, which was OK for controlling lights.
Then I bought a Hue dimmer switch, and found it was not supported by the Echo.

  • Anyone else having trouble ordering using click and collect? I cannot proceed to the payment screen.

    • Not available click and collect my local store. Available every other method. Looks like they want you to walk in and so perhaps impulse buy additional stuff, or pay the online shipping. Restricted to a limit of one unit per transaction. I paid the $5 shipping. Total price same as I paid click and collect at Bunnings last week, and it's being delivered to my door.

    • It took me about 10 times

  • Bought a set… now to ask questions and figure out how this works. What's the bridge for??

    • works through the bridge which is better than a direct connection like the Yeelights

    • +1

it is to connect all the lights. Unlike Lifx bulbs which you can connect it directly to wifi, philips bulbs need a bridge to be connected.

      • cheers, I've got a lifx and 4 x yeelights at home that work pretty well. so was wondering what the bridge did. thanks!

    • If all else fails RTFI. These lights are wi-fi not BT. You need the bridge to link and unify your Hue devices with your router and other devices.

  • Is the code not working for anyone else?
I enter it and it accepts it, but then doesn't discount the price

    • same

      • +2

nvm, I pasted in the code, then hit backspace, typed in the last digit, and hit enter and it worked…

        • This worked for me 🙏

        • +1

thanks saffy - backspace, retype worked for me

      • I had the same problem and it eventually worked in the cart (not checkout). https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cart

    • "This coupon is unique and can only be used once." Says on the main page

      • It's generic, everyone is getting the same code

        • sweet thanks

  • +1

Great Deal plus 20% Cash Back with Paypal Amex Offer!!!! WINNING!!!!

    • how? which deal is that?

    • I remember now. I was not targetted for that offer.. :(

  • +1

The cost of the bridge used to be the main reason I didn't want to get into the Hue system, at this price with 2 globes no problem now

  • Got one thanks

  • Don't walk. RUN…

  • Why does it say I can buy in store but cant c&c?

    • +1

Might be low stock or something. It was saying that for me too when it defaulted to Highpoint (closest store to work), but let me C&C from Essendon and the order went through without issue. Weird.

  • Everytime I click proceed to payment it fails and boots me back to the address part of the checkout

  • Is this worth it just for the globes? I already have a hub.

    • Yes. The globes alone are $20 each at Bunnings

  • +1

    Phillips who?

  • Yeah no idea why I need this but at 80% off, I'll buy it first and and ask questions later

    • Buy it for the hub and then you can grab some of the more interesting Hue products later. My dream is the one that goes behind the TV and uses the colours from the picture on the screen to generate backlighting.

      • The hue sync app works with all hue bulbs, not just the lightstrip or the tv lights.

      • I did this when the bunnings deal was on last week. It is not a great ambilight but it's passable.

        • If you need stronger lights, ikea tradfri works with Philips hue hub and has strong variable white light globes
