1060

UPDATE: It looks like the super cheap fares have sold out. The prices are now $1300+. I hope some of you managed to grab the deal!

I was playing around with Multi-city fares and I found these really cheap flights to Los Angeles that allow long stopovers in Hawaii and San Francisco. You can alter the order so that you go to Los Angeles or Hawaii first. I have given some example dates below, but I think this is available from Feb - Sep/2020.

Departing Melbourne from $766
MEL -> HNL 23/Aug/2020
HNL -> LAX 30/Aug/2020
LAX -> SFO 12/Sep/2020
SFO -> MEL 19/Sep/2020

Departing Melbourne from $778
MEL -> LAX 23/Aug/2020
LAX -> HNL 30/Aug/2020
HNL -> SFO 12/Sep/2020
SFO -> MEL 19/Sep/2020

Departing Sydney from $777

SYD -> LAX 10/Feb/2020
LAX -> HNL 24/Feb/2020
HNL -> SFO 02/Mar/2020
SFO -> SYD 09/Mar/2020

    Can't take advantage of it, but damn that's a bargain flight combo

  • Is playing around with fares part of your job? Sounds fun! Thank you for the deals. I'd love to go.

  • 22 hour flight to Hawaii from Melbourne? C'mon son.

      Fair point - I added the alternate routing which goes via LAX first. It is $12 more expensive but it breaks that first MEL-HNL leg.

    Keep in mind Hawaii is a super expensive place to visit so you certainly won’t save money over just going direct or even paying to have a shorter stopover. Even budget hotels cost $100’s per night.

      Yep, going to need a lot of money 7 nights in Hawaii. Food isn't cheap either.

        Can second this. You can find Airbnb if it's a big group but it might get cancelled in the last minute (which is what happened to me) costing a bomb for hotel accommodations last minute. Food is expensive (yes, even in fast food outlets). All the attractions are expensive so be prepared for an awesome holiday which will create a sizable hole in your pocket..

        Worth it!!!

      LA isn't cheap either.

    Just be aware that United is known for having attrocious customer service.

      We were stuck on Big Island for over 10 hours watching our plane make test take offs and landings. Our biggest gripe was nothing was ever said to us about what was happening and what our estimated take off time would be.
      Made a vow never to fly United again.

      • Sorry to hear that, but not surprised at all, after all those news.

      only if you're a doctor

    LOL @ LAX -> HNL -> SFO -> SYD for the return.

    • Surely that can't be right

      • LAX>>>SFO - What's that in flight time - 15 minutes ?

        • +1

          A tad under 2 hours from memory

        • No flights are 15 minutes, take off and landing takes the seconds longest. The longest thing is getting through security and picking up your bags. PITA.

    united dont fly from Australia to HNL directly so these aren't really "stopovers" - you've gotta go to SFO or LAX then get a 5hr flight back to HNL, so just be aware of that one :~)

    otherwise that's an excellent deal for a lot of flying time…

  • Are these available for the opposite direction by any chance?

  • +2

    I would avoid United.

      paying extra 200-300 for air NZ may be a better option
