Pretty good price. Had one for over a year. Works very well on our home network, even streams to the PS3.

$18.10 shipping to SA….. bumps up the price a bit…..

      • can pick up from sydney for free postage

If anybody miss this deal, no worry, U can get it for about 109

        • +1

Picking up isn't considered free postage ;)

can pick up from sydney for free postage

I suspect it would cost me considerably more than $18.10 to fly up to Sydney to pick one up…..

    • It looks to me that Mwave have it at $192. $99 seems good, http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=mybook+world+1t… suggests $162 is the lowest price.

    • Yup. It's also been $115 at JBHIFI for a long time now. MSY have had a strangly high price on them, not sure why. But, I've been looking for a few months now, but never got around to buying. I'll TRY msy, but I imagine I'll get the infamous soup-nazi "NO HAVE!"

This is an amazing price for a high quality/speed 1TB NAS!

Looking at the ratty brands, and DIY, and it's seriously not worth doing.

  • ^^^ I'm too slow today… :P

is it the same one that is $109 here?

    • Final stock sold for $56 - but I guess you will pay almost double if you missed out and really want one :)

  • can anyone give me a quick answer to this?

is this accessible over a network via SMB (samba) shares? i've looked at a few of these can they need to be accessed via software for each pc that wants to connect to it.

    • +1

its a network drive, you plug it into your router and each computer detects it as a network share. I think ftp and smb is supported and some other standards.

Be aware, these things are very very slow. My 2TB one tops out at 15Mbps. Other than that, I am very happy with mine.

    • +1

Do you have a gigabit switch? Maybe your running through a 100mbit link, this would only give you 12.5MB/s max.

I've seen mine copy files through my router, through another pc, to an external HDD via usb at 30MB/s which is good.

    • Hey, you might be right?! The "other" version, the "live" is reviewed as MUCH faster, up & around 40MB/s.

Don't shoot the messenger, people… I'm still gonna buy one. But the user scores at CNET are slaughtering it!

Read the site and the third line of the OP properly before you neg.

  • Is that good enough (speed) to watch RMVB file from ATOM netbook , C2D laptop and i5 laptop thru 802.11g wireless. There is no problem watch those file using their own drive at the moment.

    • RMVB = FAIL

  • Is this the same as this one?

    • yes.

  • Can any one tell, if Smart TVs detect these for media streaming DLNA or media link?

I know my series 7 samsung LCD streams off mine no worries!

These are a good newbie NAS.. I'm running SABnzbd+, SickBeard and CouchPotato on one - I also use it to tunnel remotely to my LAN via SSH.

    Good value at this price.

    • Hey Grish, I checked on the SAB website and there are a few articles on how to do this for other NAS's. Do you have a good link for doing this on the MyBook World device?

  • anyone now how many Watts of power they use since probably on 24/7?

    • Good question… anyone?

today only but on msy website its $199 ..

  • Don't forget you can get the 3TB version of this for $254 (static ice).

  • Have you looked at the Seagate GoFlex Home 2TB? Selling at places for as low as $165. Does Mac AND PC simultaneously if desired. Has a USB port at the back for sharing a USB printer over a network, or attaching a USB hard drive.

The best thing is that it is a hard drive that sits in a cradle/ dock with a USB port and the ethernet port. Want to connect it differently, just buy the dock for that connectivity. USB 3 docks are available, and thunderbolt is coming out soon.

SMB shares over network? No problem.

Hell, it's even got an app for accessing it on iPhone/ iPad and Android. Might be worth a look.

    • Do you know if you can run Dropbox / SABNZBD+ etc on it?
