MyBook World Edition 1TB Gigabit Network External Drive @Officeworks $75

390

Went to Officeworks Wagga and spotted the above… can't resist the temptation… Esp when it comes with Free MIONet account to access the drive from anywhere with internet connection. I think it has a apple App as well, but i m more interested in an android app to access the device.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with $75 for a Gigabit NAS! Maybe will do a DIY upgrade to a 2TB drive later down the track…

been $75 for about 1 week… be quick (and lucky)

    hax info here -> http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum-summary

    • thks for the info

  • bought one a few weeks ago when they were on clearance also at OW but for $100 though. I wonder whether I can bring it back to them (it's still unopened) and ask for the refund of $25

    • a few weeks

No. refund policy is 7 days. There is no price guarantee policy in OW only pricematch.

But i guess you can try see what they said since its unopened.

      • Also I wanna add that even then you need a legit reason. So, not because you changed your mind.

" I just realised that I don't have a wireless router or switch. Just a modem which only has one ethernet port" Legit enough?

          or the classic
" 1Tb doesn't fit all my pron, I need moar!"

    • I'm pretty sure you can get your money back if it's unopened and you have your receipt. Try a few stores if the first one says no.

This print off the receipt from the internet and show the store concept is new to me. Can somebody please explain how I should go about explaining the situation at the store?

    • Hey mate a lot of stores price match and some will beat their competitors prices. Most of the time they need proof though. Some places will accept a receipt from another store as proof and match they price on the receipt. Only way to find out is print off the receipt, take it to your local jb / officeworks etc and put on the hard word!

      • Thanks for the explanation. I understand that concept but was just a bit unsure of the fact that a store would accept a photograph of a receipt; with factors concerning image tampering etc.

  • can anyone explain what this is used for

You mean, explain what a hard drive is used for? :\

I think he might mean the NAS
      NAS - Network Attached Storage

Plug it into your wireless/wired router/switch to allow all devices to access it at the same time. I believe some NAS allow bT downloading and hence you will not need to keep your computer on at night.

Also allows you to stream media from the NAS box to your wirelessly/wired connected xbox, ps3,media plater or bluray device.

If you really wanted to you could also run an mainstream OS like Ubuntu/kubuntu etc on it and use it as a HTPC/NAS(i don't know if it is supported by this model)

  • This is probably a dumb question but can I use this as a wireless connection to allow my laptop to access the internet?

    • No, it isn't, but no, you can't.

  • Just wondering.. what exact model number is this? Is it available in Melb? I mean I couldn't find the deal online..

        • Go Ozbargain Go!

        • lol… ozbargain, making friends of strangers since 2006!

  • A bargain @$75 I reckon. Waited for this to drop in price in Hobart, unfortunately I think they sold the last one before it was reduced to this price.

  • It's a great unit, I have to say that it was a good deal at $100, but $75 is even better.

  • can you upgrade the hard drive on this one ?

    • you can link another hard drive via usb, not sure how easy it is to replace the internal drive

  • How noisy is this thing?
