First post so please take it easy on me. There was a similar OzBargain post about this a few months ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483889) where you could get free Gold status when you sign up for Ascott Star Rewards using an Amex referral link.

I recently found another link which will now give you free PLATINUM status plus 4,000 points when you sign up using code AMEXPL. Platinum is the highest status level, which usually requires a qualifying spend of over $AUD 10,000. Some Platinum benefits include (https://www.the-ascott.com/en/member/benefits.html):

  • Complimentary Breakfast (in Europe)
  • Complimentary Airport Transfers (in the Middle East)

The code is embedded in the link, so there’s no need to enter the code. I believe this code will only work until the end of the year, and you will retain Platinum membership for 2 years from signing up with the link.

P.S. Most major hotel brands don’t recognise Ascott yet to status match, as it’s only a new program. However, currently Radisson will status match it to Silver tier, Wyndham will status match it to Gold tier and Best Western will status match it to Platinum tier.

          I think your best bet is to match to Platinum Best Western, then match others from that

            @Devinior: Hilton apparently matches any, although it also requires a proof of stay. Their status match form explicitly mentions Raddison, Wyndham, and Best Western as options - so if you status match to any of those and then stay at least one night you probably have a decent chance of the Hilton status match.

              @ely: Although Hilton has an 'Other' option, it it will NOT match any Ascott membership statuses :(. Hilton will also only status match Raddison Gold/Diamond, Wyndham Diamond or Best Western Diamond/Diamond Select

                  @BargainGhost: Nope, Accor will not match anyone from what I have seen.. Best bet to get an Accor Gold level, is an Ibis Business Card or be a stockholder of Accor.

        Thanks OP. I can confirm that I got status matched to Best Western, Wyndham is pending but I got rejected for Radisson as Ascott is not in their list. I saw that Best Western is part of their list so I just replied if they can status match based on that. Hopeully they do.

          When you registered for Wyndham Rewards status match, the form has a section which says: "Membership Verification - Upload a picture or screenshot of your member card from another hotel loyalty program. Make sure your name and current status are visible." What did you submit here? I can't seem to find a (virtual) membership card from the Ascott Rewards page. I could just take a screencap of the "My Account Details" page which says I'm a Platinum member there, but I'm not sure if that would work…

      In one of the earlier Accor Platinum freebies I status matched to Gold Hilton HHonours, PLatinum IHG, whatever the top Best Western was, Radission, and a few others… (using mainly the Accor and HHonors to further status match). These days its a lot tougher and almost all require proof of stays

        Well I’m glad I’m not the only Derp! You sign in, click on the little person icon top right. Then click on your name in the left hand drop down. The. Click Dashboard, then your account t summary will pop up and say Platnium :)

    I'd like to offer a word of caution. A year ago, I signed up for free Platinum GHA Discovery status through a link I found online. Unfortunately, as many people have a habit of doing just as I did, when I arrived at my hotel and asked for an upgrade (as is a platinum perk), they told me the code used to sign up had been flagged as invalid and they would not be honouring my status.

    I've signed up for this deal anyway, just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone encounters something similar. Cheerio.
