    Hardly Normal!

  • +8

Harvey Norman are grosly Overpriced on everything so even with their %off I'm sure if you shopped around you could get it cheaper.

    • -6

They are usually pretty good when it comes to price matching.. it's only the uneducated that pay full price.

But these sales are on ALL the time, if HN was not having a sale nobody would buy at their normal prices.

      • +2

lol… people randomly negged you because i can't see the reason why you got negged!

        • +4

Who are the uneducated? They may be old respectful people but get cheated by a lieful staff.

And thats why he got negged.

      • +2

Haha, can't please everyone. Most people know Harvey Norman is expensive, i.e. Hardly Normal.

      • +3

they hardly price match. they usually go "it's below cost"

        • Fair enough, I've had good success with price matching, perhaps because there are few quite a few competitors around (HN / JB / Clive Peters / Clive Anthonys & WOW).

Perhaps the local HN near your cardboard box under a bridge in VIC (from ur profile :P) doesn't have much competition?

  • +3

i wouldn't be surprised if the rep was actually ol' gerry himself plugging his wares. that man is shameless

    • +1

      and rich…

    • I think Harvey is happy with the income from all the silly H-N franchisers out there.

He doesn't have to worry about how they do business (which is why they do as they please - from all reports; we've all seen nearly unconscionable tactics, on the part of franchisers' sales people, right?)

It's like MacDonald's corporate entity: They are LANDLORDS, & no longer need to make sandwiches. (I guess they also win by charging franchise & maybe training fees; go read their Annual Report…)

Smart business leaders tend to STOP doing what they did, on their way to SUCCESS & RICHES.

"GUARANTEED 40% OFF" Off what? And what is "Normally priced"..Not RRP, more like HNP which is RRP+10%Gerry+ 10%Franchise owner + salesman fee.

The Acer 15.6" Notebook with an Intel core i5 processor, 750gb HDD, 4GB Ram AND 8 hours battery, $479, sounds like it might be reasonable value. Model number would be nice.

    • Acer might be this (GPU or not?):

    • so we can duduct that this notebook is probably the only decent deal mentioned…

      (as I said… PROBABLY!!!) (keyword)

      • it's a very very good deal if it's the one with the ati 6550 video card

  • Having looked at the Acer 23" and the Fuji camera they do seem to be cheaper then what other places have to offer.

  • +3

GH is having a pretend sale…? Wow that is new.

  • +2

they are always full of shite HN the couple of good specials will be sold out quickly and than they try to push you onto something else at a inflated price sure sometimes you can bargain with them and i have done well at this in the past but its annoying.

  • +1

More details about the Acer one should have been available. Still very misleading.

  • I like the sound of the Fuji camera because at that price, a GPS waterproof and shockproof camera below $200 is rare…

weird how OP didnt mention a superb highlight; GPS. Maybe it was supposed to be different model…

  • +2

Every time when HN has a sales on, i go in and get disappointed because their prices are so heavily marked up! Also, if HN is having sales that often, does that mean you are getting heavily ripped off during the times when they don't have a sales?!

  • +1

I called the store at 5:10pm the acer in question is
    drum roll…………………………………..
    AS5830TG 2414G75MNB $479 after cash back

They offered another which is the AS 5750 for around $520.

    harvey norman = fail

Its a neg from me for the Spam-ish title.

    REP may like to avail him/herself of the following;

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:title_guidelines

  • +1

I understand the feeling and don't like HNs tactics myself either but it will be very interesting if the REP can post the model No for the Acer notebook, as I bought one with exact specs from the GG for $790 only last week, so for $578 or $479 after cashback it would be a steal if the same model.

  • +1

I have to negged this deal because there is no model number and stock level for that price.
It is very suspectible to bait and switch tactic and (like aldeady mentioned above) they can easily said it is sold out and offered another product which might carry higher markup price and not as good deal as original deal.

I live close to that Hardly Normal and there usually is NO GOOD DEAL coming out of them.

  • To all you negative people, I saw this post and bagged a great Deal. THANK YOU HN!

  • This afternoon I picked up the Acer i5 laptop described by OP for $479 after cash back, $429 after the Amex promo. Model was AS5830TG 2414G75MNBB.

I had actually called on Thursday to reserve one but it turned out they still had stock. Also called HN Auburn to see if they would price match but no go.

Convinced another guy in the store to buy one and told him about OzBargain :)
