Check the link, usual is $2.69.

    • +2

No, it's been discounted from the $2.69 regular price.

      • +1

        Thanks! :-)

  • all 3 of their sprays are now $1.99, much cheaper than colsworth $3 homebrand

      • +1

In case you're wondering why you were downvoted Wood, it's because Colesworth is a common portmanteau of Coles + Woolworths. I know TEER3X made a typo but even if you searched "colsworth" google will suggest colesworth.

  • How do people find the generic bug sprays compared to the typical brands like Mortein and Raid? They are normally $7-8 so significant price difference. Prefer ones with the concentrated strawer dispenser.

    • +10

Look at the active constituents. Same ingredients usually means works the same.

      • +8

Yep this stuff kills things dead, so why spend more.

    • +9

significant price difference helps to pay for their commercials

      • +5

        more safe more smart morteeeeiiiin!

    • +1

Most are also made from the same manufacturer.

Colgate makes Aldi branded toothpastes etc.

      • I that a fact about the toothpaste? I find I need to use more of the aldi brand than typically with colgate

        • +2

          Re: toothpaste
          could be true

same manufacturer does not mean same recipe

also same ingredients does not mean same method
ie…one may stir mix for 1 hr while other may stir for 1.5 hrs

same method may not mean same containing device (plastic tub that stores the toothpaste)
may react differently or have different tolerance to temperature

or …..it could all be in your head
          shrugs

          • @humdingaling: Definitely not the last point :) Are you working in the toothpaste industry?

            • @Jackson: pharmaceuticals actually

              last point…
lets just say it is a thing ;)

              • @humdingaling: I actually opened a new tube today, packaging different, consistency different. There's a chance it just that the last tube is t months old or so, so there is that. But if you asked me, I would say it's changed in that time

      Canstar Blue gave them the highest rating so I bought some and have found them very effective;

This is a great product, I will get more to fumigate all my rooms.
Spiders are getting in from the hot weather.
Such a good price at $1.99.

    • Is there a particular trick you're thinking of?
I find "surface sprays" I've used in the past are a lot more liquidy like larger spray droplets so they won't mist much for a fumigation type of treatment.

    • -4

What kind of air will you be breathing in all your rooms after that? Get one or two of those "Ultrasonic Pest Repeller Plug In", If they get in, that thing makes them like drunk and they can't start to breed inside.

      • have u got a link for one that works? Thanks :)

        • +5

          Do not waste your money

      • Keep dreaming.

      • +3

I thought they were proven as completely ineffective

  • Good price. I sprayed some around the skirting boards yesterday and found a few dead baby roaches today. So definitely works

    • +4

If you have baby roaches you're in trouble

      • +1

        I concur with Laziofogna’s assessment

  • +4

Their fly spray is awful, returned it as it just didn't kill the flies, it was like I had to drown them for them to die.

    Cockroach Spray

Whilst I’m glad they finally started making perfume for cockroaches, they don’t seem to like it when I give it to them.

  • We started using https://www.bunnings.com.au/hovex-125g-germgard-insecticide-… and works well for atleast 3 months… even if I see a roach in the night.. it will be dead by morning …

    • I had a close look at the cans for the brands that bunnings sold and compared to the aldi one, my guess was that the Aldi one was identical to the Hovex and probably made by them. Needs verification, but either way I found it to be a lot better than some other brands

    • +1

This is safe to have around use even when people are around? Or pets? Is is a constantly going bomb?

      • Yeah? Good question and what about managing further ones from coming in once killed all the ones inside?

        • +1

The instructions say you need to be out of the house for 3-4hrs and then its safe to come back..

the new ones also get killed because the insecticide seeps in to all the closets and everywhere in the house… I was out for 10 days in May holidaying in Korea and diffused them before I left, after I was back, there were dozens of roaches, spiders, even flies dead upon my arrival…

havent seen any till the summer started…

          • @krishnabhargavt:

@capslock janitor: Anyways I would have used the moth balls admist the clothes in the wardrobe … and I havent see any impact to clothes using this insect bomb …

Great if you want to poison yourself and your family instead of just treating the cause

    • If you remove all food and smells from the inside, and there are flies that come from the outside, what exactly is treating the cause?

      • I live in a small block of units. The cockroaches could be coming from anywhere.

I might try this spray but I'm sure they'll be back in no time.

        • I had a similar issue in that I was in a block of units, drove me mad one year. I ended up spraying borax behind all the skirting boards, and also using some gel that comes in a syringe which is a concentrate. After a 2 to 3 of weeks they died down a lot, and after 6 it became a rare occurrence to see one. In both cases the cockroach take the poison back to the next and it kills the rest of them. Just make sure the borax isn't anyonewhere someone is likely to eat it, as it can cause infertility in females (which is why I only put it behind the skirting boards)

    • It's pretty hard to treat the cause when it's my neighbours below me that live like ferals.

      • -1

They are the cause. Call bikers.

    • Table salt?

      • Agree what about lining salt around the home perimeter like some sort of demon repellent?

        • I did that as a safer alternative against the horde of ants trying to get in over the hot summer months

          • @greenlantern: It worked? I'm all for organic solutions
I heard growing lavender will also keep out flies. Haven't tried yet though I wonder if lavender scented essential oils will work the same

            • +1

@capslock janitor: Peppermint essential oil is very effective as a deterrent

              • @[Deactivated]: How did you do? do we need to use it thru Diffuser

                • +1

@capslock janitor: I mix water 300ml and vinegar 150ml in a spray bottle + 10 drops peppermint essential oil drops & use this to wipe down surfaces. Check compatibility of vinegar & essential oil against different surface materials.

You can add peppermint oil drops to cotton wool balls and place them on the inside of old bottle lids and position them around the house at night & collect them in the morning. Exercise care with children and indoor pets.

I also have mint plants in my kitchen.

There is alot of info available online - peppermint essential oil is a good deterrent against cockroaches (& even spiders). We've not had any issues & I prefer to stop them from entering the house rather than having to find & dispose of them shudder

I've not tried a diffuser like you suggest - it's an idea but you may not want multiple diffusers on during the night to cater for different areas of your house.

                  hth

I'm sure someone did their homework already (to see what works) so I've got my bib on :)

Thanks for mentioning those applications. Will try them, and cheaper than a diffuser.

I've been finding lots of flies guarding outside my screen door, so definitely one or two will make their way in a day.

I don't want to 'hurt' the Daddy longlengs though?

Hey yeah I agree to keeping them creepy crawlies out, than fight them inside.

But what about dealing with ones possibly already inside nooks and crannies out of sight like desk drawers and stuff? Would deploying the peppermint oil drive them out as well you reckon?

Also looking for something to deter mozzies.

                    • +1

@capslock janitor: You can try Natural Oils to Repel Flies I've not used this mixture as we have screens on all windows/doors however if they're still getting inside your home then perhaps try spraying the screens. Again, check whether the oils are OK to be used on the screen material.

Daddy-long-legs should be fine as I use the essential oils to deter rather than kill insects/spiders.

I use the spray that I mentioned above to wipe inside of drawers.

Citronella candles are great for mosquitoes when outside.

                      • @[Deactivated]:

Why vinegar btw? Won't it stink up the place

                        • @capslock janitor: Vinegar is a natural cleaner. Adding the peppermint oil totally masks any vinegar smell.

  • Most effective when hold the can and say “say hello to my little friend” when spraying those Fn cockroaches

    • +1

you don't like your friends much do you…

  • Cheaper than deodorant

    • but does it work, that is kill roaches

  • Good post, will stock up, thanks OP.

Just dont buy the MOrtein Fast KNockdown. Worst insect "killer" spray I ever used. I think flys use it as deodarant and cockroaches laughed at me. See reviews. https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/mortein-fast-knock…
Bad bad stuff. The ALDI stuff is ok but I can't breath after I have used it.:(

    • just pray , like the pollies say they do for a climate change solution…

      • Survival of the fittest the grubs breed super bugs

    • It's important the bottle is not old production, the bugs adapt to them and become resistant. That's why they keep changing ingredients and concentration

      • How can they adapt to them when they DIE instantly. Fast Knock down, instant kill, one sot… you name all the marketing slogans :). I don't think they are like viruses and bacteria that can mutate easily in a short time span.

        • Some survive, for different reasons, and develop resistance, rats do the same with their poison. You’ll find easily documentation on Google about it, you don’t even need to believe me. Insects are amazing creatures

          • @Laziofogna: Some apparently taste ok deep fried too :)

            • +1

@jastreb: Yeah in South Asia sell that as street food but I think it's cleaner species not the disgusting big red ones living in the sewer.

  • Needs to be used on me x gf

  • Just use detergent. It'll drown them.

    • +2

Should I pour them a bath or just ask them to hop into the sink?

      • squirt it

  • Tried it, the cockroach waved back at me, or maybe it was showing its finger(s)…. Got to spray really close to the buggers before they dieeeeeeeeee.

I prefer this, you can stand a little further (or pretend to be a sniper) and it works much better imo.

Coopex from bunnings is pretty good.

    • I think you mean HOVEX.

      • +1

No, he means Coopex, like a semi-pro insecticide.

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/bayer-25g-coopex-insecticide-sac…

Coopex is very effective but more of a preventative spray, its not designed for spray and kill.

        • +3

I have been using Chemspray for years, it's quite good, can't complain as it seems to do what it says on the bottle. I believe it's the same active ingredient, for 20 bucks you can make about 20L of the spray. Definitely wear gloves and a mask, especially when you are mixing it up from concentrate. I picked up a bottle at Bunnings once that was slightly open, got a bit on my hand and it started to go numb.

And yes can vouch that it doesn't have knock down properties like canned sprays.

Edit: should emphasise wearing PPE, nitrile gloves, a mask, don't leave bottles open, take precautions that you won't knock a bottle over, wear long sleeves and pants with closed shoes when spraying and dispose of the gloves and wash the closes and shower immediately afterwards. It's not rocket science but it's common sense that if you are handling concentrated poisons or around them a long time you should take some precautions, even if they say 'safe for humans'

  • Would this work on Fruit or sink flies, I have somehow managed to get a few in the house and now have tried so many sprays but can't seem to get rid of those #$@!^

    • +1

I used a mixture of vinegar and soap in a shallow dish to get rid of fruit flies. Having said that, I only had half a dozen of fruit flies to capture & kill. They were gone in 2 days or so.

      • Thanks, Will try

        • Sorry, it was actually apple cider vinegar and soap.

  • the tennis racket zappers work well https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07B8D2SCR/
    instant and odourless

    • works well for small flying bugs…

same 2 AA battery design are around 5 bucks at those random 2 dollar shops

      • I've used it on.. spiders, roaches, moths, flies, crickets. Roaches require a 5 second zap, those things are next level.
