Spitz X-750 4G LTE router $169.60 (Normal $212)

This unit is preconfigured with the Quectel EP06-E (Cat 6 support) mini-PCIe LTE modem card (you can swap out with other mini-PCIe cards however you will have to diassemble, be VERY careful with the uFL connectors (don't ask me how I know 😉) and void your warranty. May be useful if you need to change bands/country)

The EP06-E has band support for all the Aussie Telcos: FDD LTE: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28/B32 TDD LTE: B38/B40/B41 WCDMA: B1/B3/B5/B8 (yes even the "illusive" band 28 (700Mhz) 😁 )

2 external 5 DBi LTE antenna with standard SMA connectors so you can easily replace the antennae if required. 2 DBi WiFi antennae are internal.

Does everything the other GL.iNet range do so can still be used in a WISP repeater situation but with the inclusion of the build in 4G LTE modem for connectivity.

  • Anyone know what openvpn speed the GL-AR750S can manage ? I'd like it for streaming (15+Mbs) but not sure if processor can handle it …

    • They quote 17Mbps on the products webpage:
      https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-ar750s/

    • I guess it depends more of the network than the router this case.

In the office I got 122Mbps connected straight with the wireless network
Connecting with the same network through this router I got 75Mbps

I do have a OpenVPN at home running on a Raspberry PI with Pi-Hole. When connecting with my mobile there is no speed difference. I have 50/20 fiber connection at home.

I'm guessing that with this router I will have the same performance but again, it depends not just the router but the connection where you are with the VPN service you have.

It should be able to handle streaming without problems :)

  • GL-X750 or wait for Mudi GL-E750 🤔

any idea when Mudi will be avaliable and pricing

    • +1

No idea about the Mudi. They'll have to fulfil their Kickstarter backers in January first so it'll be after that. It will be available but I can't say when or how much. I'll see if I can get any clarity.

If you don't need portable power, then the X750 is a good jigger mainly because of the external SMA antenna and connectors.

  • Grabbed a travel router thanks! :)

  • Neighbour has no internet, has a Samsung A20 and hotspots when using his laptop (crappy thing with Windows 7). Has a Chromecast that won't work at all cos there's no internet connection. When we hotspot the CC to the Samsung, it's now not on the same wifi network and it won't cast. Have tried "guest" mode which uses bluetooth, but that doesn't work either cos the hotspot is using the bluetooth. Grrrrr.

With the GL-AR750S, could I connect to USB/tether with a Samsung A20 and have the Chromecast connect to the travel router and it actually work? Or is a USB tether just the same as a hotspot and "closes" the internet off?

Add to this the complete lack of technical knowledge of said neighbour, I do not want to be forever helping him get it working when he wants to watch stuff. He's a strange man and refuses to use our wifi (slightly paranoid about us having access to his phone) o_0

    • @bUrd

Yes you should be able to USB tether the Samsung, create a WiFi on the AR750s called "Chromecast" and use Google Home to setup the Chromecast on the "Chromecast" WiFi Lan . I have done exactly this in some of the housesits I've been attending.

A couple of things to be wary of:
      1. If he disconnects his phone (say to make/answer a phone call), he'll have to reconnect the phone and re-enable USB tethering on the phone. Theoretically there shouldn't be anything to do on the router, it should just pick up the connection. Just a procedural thing I guess.
      2. Is he aware of his data being used up in streaming video? Last thing you/he wants is a huge excess data bill :)

Alternatively you could WISP repeat your own WiFi with the AR750s and set him up on his own sub network with SSID "Neighbours WiFi" It would be it's own network using yours as a "gateway" only. (You could of course spin this however you wanted :p )

  • So the Spitz comes in either cat6 or cat4. This one being sold is supposedly a cat6 from Amazon.
Are there ways to verify which one we have?

    • @jujubes
My understanding is that these units are preconfigured for the Australian market with the EP06-E CAT6 LTE module before shipping to Amazon. This supports the bands for all the Aussie telcos.

There should be a sticker on the bottom of the unit that confirms this (EP06E-LA)

When you log into the router you should also see :

      Modem Name. EP06ELXxxxxxxxxx

      Hope this helps.
